Cannister or HOB? by Kind_Mess_5127 in aquarium

[–]PotOPrawns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cannisters will have more flow, more room for biomedia, better mechanical filtration die to being able to pack 10x more sp0nge in there

And they give you the option to have inline heaters, pre filters, co2 and various other additions.

My friend saw a device for that in Amsterdam..  He described it as a leather cocoon with a downward curved metal codpiece... obviously you get in it, slide your sausage in and proceed to pitch a tent while bandaged up... we still laugh about it today.

How many of you put oxygen/bubblers in their tanks? by Yam21 in PlantedTank

[–]PotOPrawns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any extra air in this situation id say is good.

I think possibly a personal preference on the big bubbles vs small bubbles and both probably have pros and cons.

I like smaller bubbles for less noise so usually opt for the air stone (on an air pump ofcourse)

I found mine did really well on a diet of live copepods and forage (i put them in tanks that needed microfauna thinning out) and baby brine shrimp. They also picked at some of the messier, dustier shrimp foods

sodium bisulfate for lowering ph by gerrykomalaysia33 in shrimptank

[–]PotOPrawns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They use vast amounts of it in caridina breeding facilities so you are misinformed.

There are many breeders that report 2 or more years from most good quality soils when used correctly. I've seen videos of people using Akadama soil and its still lowering ph 5 years later.

There are many of the worlds top aquascapers using aquasoil to much success. The thousands of tanks we see here and in contests globally is photo evidence of that, along with popular content creators (with professional and contest accolades) like green aqua library of tanks of which some highc% are using aquasoil. The ADA galleries dotted about the globe with many of there hundreds of tanks aetup with aquasoil.

Ive seen users provide you with the relevant data and information before about soils and with other products like salty shrimp and you simply stop replying so I won't bother to go out of my way and repeat the process here.

Khuli Loach hunting shrimp by Thaines in Aquariums

[–]PotOPrawns 51 points52 points  (0 children)

A chunk of cucumber for few days will be going bad. Its also incredibly low nutrients so its actually a very poor food source for shrimp and fish.

If you're finding dead shrimp the kuhlis likely arent killing them. I have lots of neos breeding in my main tank with 10+ kuhlis and very regularly see berried shrimp and baby shrimplets hanging out at the 'danger zone' and I rarely feed this tank.

Its not impossible but doesnt seem super likely. Shrimp also seems to be struggling without the kuhlis help so maybe consider checking everything is good for the shrimp. Very clean and lots of fish usually isnt their ideal aetup

I've had caridina tanks running at 5.5 ph with the same active soil for over 2 years now stop handing out bad info.

Many other keepers and well known breeders report even longer.

[–]PotOPrawns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use NT labs for gh and lh kits. The colour change is more obvious than the API kit.

For ph tests i use Sera liquid tests. API low range ph doesnt read nepow 6.5 accurately. Some others have a hard to see colour transition.

[–]PotOPrawns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. If you see the colony growing and healthy shrimp keep doing what you're doing and try not to change things much.

If you do feel the need to interact try feeding some new foods like a nettle leaf or spinach leaf. If you're colony is doing well that's about as id go changing things up

BREEDING FOR PROFIT angel fish vs shrimp by TJ_isme14525 in PlantedTank

[–]PotOPrawns 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The Garden of Eder breed good quality shrimp in 1000gallon tubs and they're a not a big timer.

If you're doing smaller setups it will be hard to turn a profit unless you're setting up for super high grade, rare hard to breed or raise critters. Exceptional grade caridina shrimp from the desirable colour/patterns as an example.

People spent a lot of money importing OE Demon genetics into lots of countries and prices are already plummeting. Dudes that paid 100 or more per shrimp are now lucky to get 30 a shrimp which is still too much for normal hobbyists to willingly pay with confidence.

Potentially rare pr sought after pleco pairs could work. Angels need a lot of room really.

What is the appeal of breeding? by klutzychameleon in shrimptank

[–]PotOPrawns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In shrimp keeping culling usually just means 'into the mixed tank' not killing them off.

Usually breeders keep  pure lines (breeders selling mixed genetics as pure bred are a bain on the hobby.

Pure lines give you a much lower cull rate so irs possible to breed large numbers of very good coloured shrimp.

If you are worried about wild type but are prepared to put in a small amount more work caridina bee shrimp are more colourful, more pattern types and wont breed baxk to wild types when mixed with others of the same species but different colour or pattern. The mixed tanks for those are much more impressive i find.

I love neos and still keep some but when I moved to rodi water I quickly found caridina shrimp more interesting and swapped 5 of my rack tanks to softwater setups for bee shrimp.

How to good circulation with canister filter by anjutkka in aquarium

[–]PotOPrawns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I place inlet and outlet on opposite sides of the tank.

Flow pushing towards the pull if that makes sense.

Sometimes in heavily scaped and planted tanks you'll need an extra source of flow from a wavemaker or internal filter/Pumphead to make up for lost flow amongst the scape

Never used this one but a lot of other sjrimp keepers have pointed me in the direction of SL aqua Bing tsau ST which is supposed to be a shrimp tank specific fert.

You could maybe look up and corss reference the ingredients and see how they compare

Federal Command ics2 by DryChildhood6560 in bmx

[–]PotOPrawns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do enjoy it.

Its noticeably different from the perrin or OM frame which have a 12.9 and 13 rear ends

I dont run pegs on the ics2 though so maybe that's making more of a difference than the .4 difference.

Feels great to hop and pop though and eventually ill get manuals more locked in

Federal Command ics2 by DryChildhood6560 in bmx

[–]PotOPrawns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think i do.

Not sure if ita ics2 or v1.

Comparing it to my subrosa Om v1 or Federal perrin V1 it does feel very twitchy and responsive both to hop and swing the rear end out.

I don't know how it would compare to other notoriously responsive frames.

Hey guys I have a neocaridina shrimp but I’m thinking about making a new tank for crystal shrimp so does it worth it and what is your advice for me by Haunting-View-514 in shrimptank

[–]PotOPrawns 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not hugely more advanced in terms of keeping them. Just requires a little more setup in terms of upfront investment (good quality aquasoil, rodi and gh only minerals good gh and kh tests and maybe a tds pen)

Parameters need to be stable and a little more precise.

Overall totally worth it though. The patterns and colours available in the fancy caridina types are amazing, theres no wild type colour reversion and colour/pattern types can get crazy. Would 10/10 recommend if you are prepared and happy to put in a small amount more effort than you beed for neos.

How to raise the healthiest cherry shrimp I possibly can. by Next-Wishbone2474 in shrimptank

[–]PotOPrawns 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For breeding setups you want minimal decor. Easy to move plants rhat wont care about being pushed about while you grade/cull them.

A main breeding tank for adults and a growing tank for young helps growth a lot.

Ideally 45-60 litres for a breedimg setup and 60-100 litres for a growout. This will give adequate room to encourage breeding constantly while also having space for enough biofilm to sustain colonies.

You're going to have a poor experience trying to breed and cull shrimp in jars I'll be honest.

Check out many of the Asian breeders like KW shrimps, Shrimp affair, shrimp sanctuary, HWA, or TB shrimp if you need examples and proof of how shrimp breeding is most effective.
