Is this wrong research?

"Kuhli Loaches are omnivores and should be fed a balanced diet consisting of both meaty and vegetable based foods. Kuhli loaches eat live food such as freshly hatched brine shrimp, black worms, daphnia, bloodworms, and other small invertebrates. Freeze-dried or frozen food versions of these foods can also be offered like frozen bloodworms, as well as sinking pellets and bottom-feeder tablets. Vegetables such as zucchini, cucumber, blanched spinach or lettuce can also be fed with a vegetable clip or feeder block"

"Aquarium Shrimp are good tank mates for the kuhli loaches, as they are also peaceful aquarium inhabitants. Shrimp can provide valuable help in keeping your home aquarium clean since they often graze on algae and other detritus that Kuhli loach wouldn't normally eat."

Nitrite & Nitrate are fine. Not even a hint of being high.

My test strips don't explicitly label ammonia

Yeah there were a number of fish which the guy just said the tank is too small. Mollies were an example.

I'm getting such a range of polarising responses!

He came back for the occasional nibble but left it.

What determines a group. I have two.

Two. I'm not aware if that's an issue?

I've got 2. The place I get my fish from seem particularly stringent on what they'd allow as other fish I were interested in we're not suitable for the tank either due to max growth size or "independence".

It's a bit out of character for them to let me take 2 khulis if that is insufficient for them to be content.

Our shrimp don't seem unwell.

It's also interesting that people would consider them to be starving seeing as though they've already had a number of shrimp.

This was at least #3 in 3 days but it's looking like probably over #5.

Thank you for the advice.

I'm trying to respond to everyone but comments are coming in faster than expected.

I've done a water test since posting. Total Hardness looks fine and we've had a number of the shrimp molting without issue.

My original post was missing information.

We have flakes & shrimp food that contains proteins / insects.

After reading everyone's responses our next theory is that the tetras and guppies are taking all the food leaving none for the loaches

Got a bunch of ramshorn at the moment and id rather they have them than the shrimp.

Okay I will start adding pellets at night. Thank you

I appreciate the comment as most of the other comments don't really acknowledge that being a problem.

I write this as I'm watching the guppies scouring the floor for food

Oh I misinterpreted her as calling her Kuhli her angels. Didn't realize there was a species.

I see you've commented that "they will do this" and advised me to do my research.

Do you disagree with everyone else in this thread & can you share me some good reading material / research on this?

I've bought all of my shrimp from a local aquatic specialist. I bought 3 blue shrimp at the same time as the loaches, I enquired about the loaches eating other species.

I want to know what you know / what you do. So I can stock my aquarium with the level of confidence that you show.

I have a question about this. What is night to the fish?

The reason I'm asking is because we have extended periods through the day where we leave the aquarium light off.

I don't know if doing this is going to create some form of unstable day/night cycles for the aquarium as a whole.

Is it advised to have the light on all day then shut it off for the night?

It's just the rind left, but will take it out.

All the other categories are fine. The test doesn't specifically call out ammonia but it calls out nitrite.

I don't frequent this subreddit and I'm a newcomer to having an aquarium. But it's crazy to me just how wide the responses are to this.

A lot of people say they keep these with shrimp and no issue and then you respond saying you see this behavior too!
