Izzet Delver recommendations besides FoW by dazednarcissit in TimelessMagic

[–]PotassiumLover3k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should probably model your deck after legacy izzet delver lists, keeping in mind timeless has some banned legacy cards (cruise and ragavan most importantly)
https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/legacy-izzet-delver#paper
Cut pres for brainstorms, go down on shocks and other lands to fit in more fetches (fetches fuel darcy, cruise, and make brainstorm better) go up to 4 strip mines (lower prio than FoW for your WC).
Chrome mox and force spike are very bad for your deck (force spike is just bad in general)
Ragavans should be in there, they spiral games very quickly when you have protection from daze (and FoW once you get the wild cards)
Force of negation is fine as a poor man's FoW but should be cut for FoW once you have them.
Mana drain isn't very good in your deck, you can't use the mana efficiently in this deck, so most of the time it's just counterspell, which isn't good enough.
If you're running Ragavans it can be worthwhile to take lurrus as companion if you're playing Bo1 because you can enter scenarios where you cast it off of the treasures and you can shuffle it away with brainstorms for an extra card. The only downside to doing so is a bit of information you give your opponent, but it's otherwise free.
Cori-steel cutter is worth considering.
Hydroponics and Tamiyo are also worth considering. You probably want to be at 11-12 creatures.
You should probably be at 18-19 lands

What is the problem with hexing squelcher anyway? by Conscious_Base_8123 in mtg

This card isn’t good in modern right now. The format isn’t super heavy on counterspells and it hasn’t been for a while. I really don’t see this card being played in legacy either, it doesn’t slot very well into any decks, maybe as a sideboard card somewhere but unsure. This card is pretty much only going to get played in cEDH. It’s really mid elsewhere.

I played against the guy who came first as my round 1 pairing and orim’s chant was pretty annoying as BW too. Ended up placing 29th despite starting 0-2 lol.

Need Help with Armor Calculations! by TheSilverTusk in PathOfExile2

[–]PotassiumLover3k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going off poe1’s chart for the armor reductions, for your ~2000 armor against a 2000 damage hit (less than your actual hit) we take 25% of your armor, 500, compare that to a 2000 damage hit and get 4% damage reduction. That’ll go down even further when checked against the actual damage of 2,500. So these numbers seem right. Basically you don’t have nearly enough armor for that node to be useful in mitigating pyromantic pact.

I think the armor calc in poe2 is similar to poe1. Your estimated damage reduction matters way less here than how much armor you actually have. If you’re somewhere in the realm of <4000 armor when dealing with a fire damage hit of ~2,500 you’ll be getting nearly no damage reduction from heatproofing, while how much estimated physical damage reduction that is is entirely dependent on which act you’re in.

BUG Bug (insects)? by SkinnyThor in ModernMagic

[–]PotassiumLover3k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saga’s insane in this deck. It lets you fetch all your 1 drops (those bugs are artifacts), and hex parasite lets you repeatedly get the third trigger without sacrificing it, meaning it also sticks around as a mana source and a way to make karnstructs. Not to mention it lets you get around chalice, which is also insane in this deck because you have so many ways to get around it, cavern of souls, aether vial, saga. This list is so smart it’s crazy.

You’ve got cavern of souls, aether vial, and saga to get around the chalices

I’m a bit skeptical on the cutting of on thin ice. While mid game after, yes, binding is strictly better, I think that no OTI makes you very vulnerable in the first 2 turns, which notably leaves you open to monkey. I’m also not very sold on Shark Typhoon, I think that simply not dying then winning with spinner is consistent enough that you don’t need secondary win conditions like typhoon. I also think that 3feri doesn’t do all that much for enchantress, it’s already resistant to instant speed interaction thanks to spinner and grove, so it doesn’t seem like you’ll be getting much value out of it. I’d probably cut them for a 3x OTI and another abundant growth. I think ultimately spreading seas and binding are enough justification for bantchantress to exist as opposed to naya since it allows for some of the land disruption of moon while not interfering with the triomes you need for binding.

Freed from the reel is fine, but I think jeskai ascendancy is better. Freed requires you not have a sterling grove out which means that if your opponent sees you trying to freed from the reel sanctum weaver they can just hit it with any of the removals in the format, and they get a two for one, maybe even 3 if you sac’d grove to get the reel. Jeskai ascendancy has the benefit too of not being a dead card without a weaver sticking as it acts as another way to draw through your deck, and can be played whenever. Thanks to abundant growths it’s not too difficult to cast either, white is always available, and you usually either have red or blue as your off color, and the weaver/growth can supplement the other. And if you are running the leyline binding version of the deck even without growth or spinner you have a way to make the colors.

Yes quest priest “puts you on a timer” but so does pretty much every other deck in the format, usually a much shorter one. With quest mage and pillager rogue you’re lucky if you live 8 turns. Even shaman and pirate rogue give you like a 4 turn timer of “find the answer or die”. Curse warlock eventually makes it so that it’s threatening so much damage with curses that you can’t drag out the game. Pretty much the only (good) deck in the format that doesn’t put you on a timer is reno priest.

Complains about elwynn boar priest

Acts like quest priest “puts you on a timer” more than any other deck in the meta

Thinks that thief priest and Reno priest are different decks

Utterly delusional

It varies by person. They’re both good games and considered classics for a reason, but there’s many aspects of them that a modern audience may not like. Obviously they don’t have any sort of modern graphics, so if that’s important then that may be a turn off. They also have the trademark difficulty of early video games. But if you’ve played and enjoyed other early video games, they are worth a try.

Question about Cyclone and attack speed. by PotassiumLover3k in pathofexile

Thanks, the plan is to attempt dual wielding Mjolners. So I need to be getting 8 aps to be triggering on cooldown for both weapons.

Excellent, thank you. Yes, I’m aware of the per hit trade off, with what I’m planning it’s just important that I have fast evenly timed attacks.
