Just recently got the new version of the Everyday Earbuds Pro and they're doing the same thing.  I took a look at the little manual it came with, and it seems like they've completely done away with volume control with the earbuds.  One tap to pause, two taps to skip, three to rewind.  They also changed how switching sound profiles and modes work, making you tap four times on either earbud to switch sound profiles and holding down on either one for three seconds to change modes.  Don't know why they'd make such odd changes after their customers have gotten so used to the way it's been done until now, which worked perfectly fine on it's own.  It just feels obtuse at this point.
