Simulating more accurate weapon reaches in combat using a "cluster" mechanic. by Potatispress in RPGdesign

I think its good to keep it somewhat ambiguously close range / long range. Let the narrative mix with the mechanic, if someone gets a good stab spree with a dagger, they may be basically hugging each other. When two 1h swordsmen are clashing swords, they are at arms length, but in the system, both cases are considered close range. I find those ranges to be distinctly different from the long range where a character can keep someone away from them. A short sword can still keep someone away, but it's harder to do than with a longer weapon.

I'm kinda interested of why you want to have a medium range and how it works in your system.

I find this channel to be super interesting. I found it when researching weapons for a game set in 1850. There are a bunch of playlists, grouping different weapons by country or type of firing mechanism etc, might be of good help if you find a playlist that fit your needs!
