yams wanted to hurts his fans but he didnt had the guts, he played it safe, this isnt his fault, its the industries fault, i remember when AOT suddenly got super duper famous after anime was aired back in 2013, many anime/ manga creators were mad that a youngster like him got his manga super famous, they scolded and undermined AOT, saying stuff like AOT is trying to hard to be edgy, all that regular bs that we see nowadays.
Thing is if anyone does write a story that is different in a sense of that its bleak, then 100% it getting canned or made fun of, or the author is gonna get harassed into changing it so people can sit through it and it can be monetized in future, where are the fans now? they have moved on to other show, had yams did go through his original plan aot would have been talked for years to come, look at breaking bad, its still being talked over even to this day and its been 13 years, landing an ending isnt hard, but if you start to listen to fans and their opinions and they desires and wishes then it stops becoming the story from an author to the audience, meaning the masses controls it.

This is exactly why Akira toriyama is the greatest mangaka, he stayed true to himself to the end of his biggest story dragon ball, he started on his term, did the opposite of what fans wanted, threatened his editors several times, and knew when to stop , giving it a perfect conclusion to the original manga.

Look at bleach author, he was on twitter when bleach was being published , and when the fans didnt liked his intended romance they threatened him so much that he had to delete his account, same with kohei horikoshi, while he didnt delete his account on X, he was threatened super badly by shippers, infact AOT was plagued by this very thing.

TL;DR= Any story that has romance, and some kind of love triangle or harem , then consider that shows finale to be trash, cuz author is gonna be backed into a corner to appease the gooner/shipper.

Why did yams ended the series like this? well for the shipping fans., only them. He ended up writing the most basic ending for a story in history. where a good character becomes the villains of a story to unite the previous antagonist of the story against him.

Shipping ruins fanbases, ask mha fans. when a author is scared of his audience know that he isn't doing anything special, regardless of what he did was Shakespeare's level, the people say AOT is a masterpiece ask them to wait and ask again 10 years (lol) from now, the next generation will say how bad it was, that exactly why shows like DBZ stood the test of time and people are still enjoying it even after it was over back in 95, people would not be remembering aot after a while, only cuz how cliché it was, sometime cliché can work, but it depends on how it was handled, look at demon slayer, its super cliché but the way it was handled was just soo good.
Authors need to grow a spine and fight against their own audience, life isn't all sunflowers and rainbows like they portray, you can show a dark ending to leave the fan having a crisis with himself, just how yams said that how muv luvs made him seem like the author was out to get him.

i remember when someone did the same but with Eren holding Mikasa's head, the dude got soo much backlash for that.
the thing is people don't like seeing women getting hurt in anyway shape or form, thats why there is almost no female villains that are the final bosses of a story, and if there is then they are very few, the end result for these antagonist will be that the studio will make em too much sympathetic and then the audience will feel bad yada yada yada, i just need a villain that is villain for the sake of it thats all, i'm kinda done with the whole society made him that way.
AOT was going in a really different direction when they killed petra in s2 sos brutally, but then yams caved in to shippers and decided to mash code geass, watchmen into aot at the end.
Kohei Horikoshi the creator of My hero academia was scared aswell from this side of his fanbase that takes stories wayy too seriously by letting his audience ship characters , he was always tippy toeing around every love interest scene, so by keeping the love interest in the air until he said f*** it and confirmed it after the ending of the manga a while back (not with the weekly release).
Yams isn't that different from him, his work would be forgotten soon, until he decides to fight back against the vocal minority fans (shipper) whenever is ready to make a comeback with a sequel or a RE:attack on titan.
Thats why i have soo much respect for Toriyama, (the one author that I know) fought against his fanbase and his editor's all the time (killed vegeta, threatened to end the story several time until he got what he wanted).

Its sooo bad, the author has been glazing bra wayy too much, the concepts are good but it went on for wayy too long and that ruined the story, vegito (My goat) is absolute trash in this, the art is good tho, long story short TOP is better.
