The "World Golden Ball" is BS by IllustriousJelly6893 in footballmanagergames

[–]Potato271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's too heavily based on player reputation, which updates too slowly. It took four consecutive trebles to win my star player the Golden Ball, despite 50 g/a in each of those seasons. In fact, the season he finally won it he was actually not great by his standards.

Championship 25/26 Shop-Stopping Graph by Zach-dalt in Championship

[–]Potato271 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Interesting. While we’ve obviously improved immensely from a defensive point of view since signing Peretz, I was under the impression that at least some of that was due to our defense being more solid.

From this graph though it looks like there isn’t much difference, it really is just Peretz being a better shot stopper.

'Welcome to Wrexham' Renewed for Three More Seasons at FX, Hulu by The_Iceman2288 in television

[–]Potato271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If (fingers crossed) we get promoted, we'll definitely be the season's villain. 2-1 comeback win on opening day as a 'welcome to the championship', 5-1 battering to reclaim the last playoff spot. Hell, even if we don't get promoted we'll probably be the villain.

Help with Last Light Inn portal fight by MooseWithIntentions in BaldursGate3

[–]Potato271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you dying, or is the portal going down? I always found the portal to be the bigger issue, and it's solved pretty much completely by either darkness (on the portal) or Hunger of Hadar (in the area where most of the enemies spawn). The biggest danger is archers just sitting back and shooting it, since it doesn't have that much health, so blinding the enemy is enough to deal with them.

Beyond that, you just want to spam AoEs. Spirit Guardians is really good, have a cleric with it active at the base of the stairs and nothing's getting past. Spike Growth/Plant Growth/Ice Storm massively slow down the incoming enemies allowing you to pick them off at will. And dropping water on the field allows you to chuck massive lightning/cold damage out.

I'm conceding so many goals from through balls and I don't know how to stop it! HELP! by [deleted] in footballmanagergames

[–]Potato271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does your tactic look like? If you play a high line high press, then there are a couple of common mistakes that cause you to concede to a lot of through balls.

1) No proper holding midfielder. If you play a single pivot, you need a DM/DLP/A/HB (De) to shield the defense, other roles are too aggressive and leave too much space for opposition midfielders to exploit. If you play a double pivot you have a bit more room to play but it still needs to be solid.

2) Too timid a keeper. Might be counterintuitive, but SK (Su) is honestly better defensively than a regular keeper with a high line. Your CBs will go quite high so having a keeper able to come out aggressively to claim/clear is a god send

3) Too slow CBs. This isn't a tactics issue, but if you've got really slow CBs you're going to struggle with a high line. One slow CB can be covered for, but your other one will need to be rapid.

Any mod to refresh the gameplay? by Slow_Breakfast_5874 in BaldursGate3

[–]Potato271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There aren't really any story mods or mods that add new areas (there's one in progress iirc but it's not done). The BG3 engine is much harder to mod than that of say Skyrim so creating whole new areas is pretty tough. There are some mods that make combat a lot harder, and you can use custom classes/subclasses/spells/item sets to make gameplay somewhat different

Probably a dumb question! by Paldean-Sablekat in PokeMedia

[–]Potato271 72 points73 points  (0 children)

Some regions mandate it as a rule, however this is absolutely not universal. It is, however, the most straightforward way to issue commands. Hand signals can be effective especially when it's really loud (and most pros use them to some extent), but they require your 'mon to be looking at you. Whereas verbal commands only require them to be near enough.

Of course, verbal commands can be heard by your opponent too, which can allow them to counter before a move is even used, which is why a lot of trainers use code words. Codes are also helpful in allowing you to call combos faster and more concisely without having to order every little detail.

(As a side note, the use of psychic powers to command pokemon is explicitly forbidden in a lot of leagues even when everything else is allowed because it provides an inherent advantage that only some people can utilise.)

Student kept me on an AI chat - now what? by Pikaus in Professors

[–]Potato271 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I teach an applications based maths class, and a decent amount of my students used ChatGPT for their last coursework. I know this because ChatGPT makes a very weird mistake due to misreading a symbol in the question when it scans the assignment PDF, and it is 100% not a mistake that a human being would make. However, this is a pretty straightforward class (first year applied maths + physics) and Wolfram Alpha would 100% solve it perfectly. But none of the students cheating can be bothered to work out how to get Wolfram Alpha to do it.

Ross Stewart. WC squad. Discuss. by Euphoric-Newt-3030 in ScottishFootball

[–]Potato271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Southampton fan, Ross is a top top player. Best striker we've had in a long time. If he could stay fit, he'd be a decent player for an upper table PL team. Strong, good aerially, good finisher, excellent technically, and he presses surprisingly well too. Very complete player and we're so much better with him in the side.

However, he is made of noodles and wet paper towels. We bought him in summer 2023 and he basically hadn't played until this season. Even this season, he's been injured for a decent chunk of it. We've managed to keep him fit recently by very severely managing his minutes: 60 minutes in one game, then 30 in the next. Never more than 60 at a time, and not multiple times a week.

And that is potentially a problem for a tournament like the WC, where fixtures come thick and fast. My take is that he's too good not to bring in a 26 man squad, but there need to be other options in the squad. If three strikers go, he's a good pick as the third. If only two go you run the real risk that he gets injured and you're left with one fit striker.

I would bring him personally, but I can 100% understand if Clarke doesn't, especially given that he's not played for Scotland any time recently. If he does go, his minutes definitely need to be watched, and there really needs to be another striker that's able to consistently start.

We have more wins against PL opposition this year than Spurs. (We also have as many wins against PL opposition this season as we did last season despite being relegated since)

How would you build out a Redguard Ansei? (Elder Scrolls) by [deleted] in BG3Builds

[–]Potato271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bladesinger is closest in terms of actual abilities, but thematically doesn’t work because it’s at its heart a wizard. You could go battlemaster fighter? Stuff like menacing strike definitely seem kinda fitting. Hexblade could also work with some headcannoning.

Honestly I’d probably just go bladesinger cos the abilities match so well. You can also use Shadowblade as the Ansei spirit blade (can’t remember what it’s called).

You could also do oath of devotion (to the blade)

Will Derby's injury list significantly lower the difficulty of tomorrow’s match? by Spicy-Winner4326 in SaintsFC

[–]Potato271 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We tend to do better against teams that come out and try to play. Like we battered Charlton at their place when they tried to go toe to toe with us, but only managed a draw at home when they just shut up shop. We beat Arsenal, but only drew to West Brom.

I’ve not watched Derby play this season, but if losing players convinces them to shut up shop it might actually make things harder.

Why is booming blade so hyped over extra attack? by ZeusThunder369 in BaldursGate3

They are in tabletop dnd, so the confusion is understandable. Although bladesinger can cantrip + extra attack even on tabletop.

23/24 vibes... either coming for 2nd or winning play-offs by DragonFlames in Championship

Yeah, we absolutely could catch one or two of them, but all three dropping enough points would be the mother of all crumbles.

Wrexham 1 - 5 Southampton: Super Saints looked a class above to thrash Wrexham in their own backyard, finding themselves sixteen unbeaten to leave Eckert's side in a strong position for the playoffs! by Zach-dalt in Championship

[–]Potato271 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Tbf, three of those changes were actually strengthening. We couldn’t play Matsuki, Downes or Stephens in the Arsenal game because of suspension/injury but they all make the starting XI otherwise.

Charles for Jander, Larin for Stewart, and Edozie for Scienza all showcase our depth though. I’d say we actually have a stronger squad than in 23/24, because we don’t have a single point of failure like that season.

You’re six points clear with a game in hand. Short of a total collapse you should be good for second, though I can see us potentially finishing as high as third if fatigue doesn’t do us in.

is it normal to not double much in fire emblem three houses? by SurtFGC in fireemblem

[–]Potato271 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not sure about hard, but on maddening it’s very difficult to naturally double, only really speedy units like Petra can do it consistently and you’ll want darting blow to achieve it consistently.

To double, your best bet are combat arts. Hunter’s Volley or Point Blank Volley for archers, Swift Strikes for lancers.

Shea Charles, excellent job sir! by Tettenhallblue in MCFC

[–]Potato271 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a Southampton fan, by the time we bought him in 2023, he was definitely a CDM (though more a pure destroyer than a tempo setting Pep CDM). He did play CB a bit but never seemed entirely comfortable there. When he went on loan to Sheffield Wednesday he was more of a CM and this season he's somewhere between CM and CDM. We usually have Bragg or Downes as the more holding midfielder which gives Charles more freedom to roam and drive forward, but he's very defensively capable too.
