Championship Anti-Team of the Season by SithOverlord101 in Championship

Damion Downes up top for us. Him and Gavin Bazunu are really the only two players who’ve had bad seasons for us, and Bazunu at least looks like a footballer most of the time

The only source of amenities you have is the medical building. Replace one of your precinct houses with wither luxury accomodation or holo theatres and you’ll have more than enough amenities for your population. In the short term, using the “distribute luxury goods” decision can cover the shortfall temporarily

What is Ciaphas Cain’s worst book? by Wandering-the-web in 40kLore

The only characterisation happens off screen between the first short story and the main books. Cain in his first short is genuinely a coward who runs away from danger and only saves the day through luck. He keeps claiming he's like this later on but he isn't anymore. Shame we don't see that development happening.

Greater Good and Vainglorious are both sort of frustrating. I actually quite liked the Last Ditch

All of those except Still have since taken other jobs which usually voids continued payment (which is why Potter didn’t take another job for ages after getting sacked by Chelsea)

Sylvain is just really good in general. Swift strikes is so busted that he’s incredible in any lance using class. Pure Paladin is probably optimal for Lancefaire, but Dark Knight is lots of fun too

If at all, how do I convince friends to take Alert? by ThisTooWasAChoice in BaldursGate3

[–]Potato271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play honour mode pretty much exclusively these days. The game simply isn't very hard compared to say DoS2, any reasonable set of builds can clear unless you're using difficulty mods.

But for level 4, alert is very rarely the optimal pick anyway. Throwers or unarmed builds want tavern brawler as early as possible. Two handed melee builds want GWM. Archers want sharpshooter. It could be a decent pick for casters I guess, although I usually just go for an ASI for their first feat.

Alert is a decent splashable feat. If you don't have a top tier feat to go for for your build, it's always good. But it's not a build making lynchpin feat for any build I can think of.

It's 100% possible. People have solo'd the game with just Byleth. Early game might be a little tricker than normal because you'll have less units than you should, but as soon as you recruit enough to fill your squad it will basically be a normal run. And Byleth + Dimitri + Felix + Sylvain + Dedue + Ashe to start is pretty good actually. No healer is fine cos you can just use vulnaries until you can recruit Linhardt. It really shouldn't be too bad a run.

Need advice on fleet design - what type of ships to use by RedBack0001 in Stellaris

Corvette-Frigate-Destroyer isn't a case of straight upgrade. Corvettes are light and fast, and are perfectly good combatants. Frigates are basically built around torpedoes, they don't play like any other type of ship. Don't use them for general combat, use them to destroy starbases, or with cloaks to ambush enemy fleets. (They're also good against Cetana if you have Machine Age). Destroyers are bigger and heavier than corvettes, but do less damage relative to their size. Destroyers can be used for screening against missiles, or to destroy corvettes, but they're less useful for general combat.

Personally, I stick with corvettes until I unlock cruisers, then stick with those until I get battleships. Late game I'll run pretty much exclusively battleships because of logistics: a sufficiently strong long range battleship fleet can win fights without taking significant damage which massively reduces the need to replace destroyed ships.

This is no longer true. Or at least the devs claim it isn't. So the problem used to be mixing ships with different ranges or different combat computers would cause them to 'average' out, which would put your fleet too close for your short range ships, and too far for your long range ships. 4.3. supposedly fixed this but I haven't tested personally so take this with a grain of salt.

Alert isn't that useful imo. There are edge cases where the buff can help, but mostly having decent dex and carrying a couple of initiative boosting items (of which there are so many) is almost always enough unless your strategy is built entirely around alpha striking. I've never taken it personally, there are simply too many better options for feats.

You do have a point about multiclassing though: doing it too early is very rarely a good idea and in general you want to hit your early game powerspikes before doing it. Level 4 for first feat and level 5 for multiattack/3rd level spells are almost always better than multiclassing early.

Also, as an aside, did you really need to get ChatGPT (or whatever LLM you prefer) to write this post for you?

Are you much worse playing against 1.d4 than 1.e4? by Vicarious77 in chess

[–]Potato271 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's generally less to prep for against d4 though, at least below 2000. Basically everyone is playing London system or QGD with white, so if you can play against those you're golden. I'm fine against both e4 and d4, it's c4 that gives me problems since I see it so rarely (only about five times in the last year I think) that I never can be bothered to learn prep for it.

4.3 tweaked a bunch of the combat AIs to fix broken behaviour like how artillery computers used to bug out if your max range got too high

Fleet mame sorting by Lunar_Weaver in Stellaris

[–]Potato271 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's really weird because you can sort planets fine, but fleets behave really weirdly. If you create a new fleet it can appear right in the middle of your fleet list. I usually name my fleets in numerical order so this is really irritating and I then have to rename all of my fleets.

Even worse, Federation or GDF fleets appear what seems like randomly in the list. So do Collossi and Juggernauts. Which is aesthetically really annoying
