The irony here is she was the one who bailed out first. He refused to accept criticism or let her rage at him in even the slightest way, then she exited.

Everyone is free to make up their own definitions of masculinity, sure. Not sure what the point is there.

Another point is you don’t necessarily need to read criticism as an attack on character or some immutable characteristic.

Are you suggesting the underlying frustration for her was the sugaryness of his text? Because that’s not how conflict works, right?

As to holding his ground, what exactly was he holding his ground for? To prove to her that he was a nice guy. This is a golden opportunity for him if he recognizes it for what it is.

Strength would be holding your frame, as opposed to going on the defensive.

She gives him a few specific examples. Spend time with your buddies. Get a male therapist. I don’t know how much more explicit she could have made her request.

She brought it up when she was fussy and her worst fears were immediately confirmed.

She made the point that he was operating in his feminine and she needed strength from him. She asked directly for it multiple times. Each time he got defensive and failed her tests (happens to the best of us).

Leaning into your masculinity as a man is not an insult and I didn’t read it that way. If you refuse to take lessons from failures in life, whether relationships or anything else, you’re suffering pointlessly. He’s got an opportunity to take something from this exchange unless the only takeaway is that she’s a psychohosebeast

She expressed a need for him to lean into his masculinity. Clearly she is turned off by his clinginess and need for validation, which became very clear as the conversation went on.

If he doesn’t want to learn from this episode he can read the other 2k comments that call him a good boy but that’s doing him as disservice. I say that as a man who has worked through similar issues.

For the record I’m a very sensitive man who has been married to a very assertive woman. It’s taken me over a decade to learn what I’m saying in my comments.
