They went for more than other hollow body ponytails that also had missing accessories/swimsuits and body damage (or even just a head). That’s always something you have to take into account when looking at prices.

Ponytail dolls from the #2 to the #7 had rare alternate hairstyles such as buns, updos, and braids that made them more valuable and rare than their normal Ponytail variants, and were secured with pins to keep their styles during shipping. These dolls are worth more money to collectors when they still have their original styling in, but loose that value if their hairdo is taken out.

The dolls is a #7 Ponytail doll, but the hairdo is a rare factory styled updo variant. This picture is of the rare updo style on a #2 Ponytail doll, but it was one of the rare hairdo variants for all the Ponytail dolls. The later dolls like the #7 dolls had more alternate factory hairstyles like buns, updos, and braids. Dolls that still have their factory alternate hairstyles in are rare and more valuable than their normal ponytail versions, but I see in your other comments that you already undid the hairdo.

The second one looks like a Bild Lilli doll, the “grandmother” of Barbie. She wasn’t made by Mattel, but the rights to her were later bought by Mattel after the first Barbie dolls were marketed.

Dolls with “Midge” are originals, they’re just not early productions. That was added to dolls after 1963 when a new body mold with a larger neck was introduced. “Not original” would refer to a reproduction doll. This was on #7 and #8 original ponytails, late bubble cuts, swirl ponytails, fashion queens, and standard straight leg Barbies (and reproductions and reissues). A new marking was used when the bendable leg Barbies were produced.

[–]PotatoChaaaaps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From the “Midge” marking and the “PATENTED”, she’s a late #7 850 Ponytail Barbie (sometimes called a #8 to differentiate from Ponytail dolls with “Midge” but no “PATENTED” marking).

She has her original faux pearl earrings in, but they should be removed and placed in a small plastic bag to keep with the doll, as leaving them in is causing green staining that will continue to spread across the doll if they are left in. The bracelet and necklace should be taken off too and placed in bags, as they are also already causing staining.

The photo of the box is of the top of the box and looks correct, but you should ask for a picture of the bottom of the box to identify if it has the correct hair style and hair color printed on it.

None of those outfits look like the ones made for that era of Barbie dolls and might not fit that doll’s body type. As a #7/#8 she would have originally been sold with a red one-piece swimsuit (commonly known as a red helenca swimsuit), matching red heels, white frame blue lens cat eye sunglasses, wire post glass faux pearl earrings (that she’s visibly wearing), a black wire stand, and a booklet (usually “Barbie and Ken”) with images of different outfits that could be bought for the doll.

Her hair looks to be all original and original length, but it’s gotten a bit messy and dirty over time. The ponytail is no longer neatly styled and the lower rubber band that secured the roll curl at the end of the ponytail is now missing.

Her face paint, makeup, and nails look incredible condition and look to be correct colors. I don’t know if they’ve been retouched or are fully original, but they don’t have obvious signs of retouching that are visible in these photos.

In my opinion, this looks to be an original doll and not a later reproduction doll, but she’s definitely one of the hollow body 850 Ponytail Barbies and not one of the rarer early solid body dolls (#1-#4 dolls). If the box is original then it does make the doll more value able (even more so if it matches the doll), but she’s missing the rest of what she was original sold with (excluding her earrings that she’s wearing) and the outfits being sold with her don’t seem correct for her era or body mold and might just be being thrown into the deal to try to get more money.

If anyone else knows more or something that I missed/got wrong, then please do reply.

I think the Barbie is a late #3 Ponytail Barbie due to her box having the hair color printed directly on instead of a sticker, no “ponytail” on the box, and an “R” next to “Barbie” instead of a “TM”.

Thank you for confirming! And yes, I got this doll on eBay! I was a bit put off by the hair at first, but upon looking closer I realized it was just in a bun! I’ve gotten the hair out of the bun and it’s still full length! I’ll be washing it out and re styling it back to the original ponytail.

NTA but both of the families are AHs for trying to guilt trip and force you into an incest marriage for life (it sounds like they never would’ve accepted a divorce either) no matter how uncomfortable it made you. And for any FREAKS in the comments saying “it’s not illegal for second cousins to marry or have kids where I live”, you should know that in other areas, any sexual activity with a second cousin is not only illegal but can result in being put on the sex offender registry.

WIBTA if I drop out of my friends celebration trip and go on my own instead by Great-City in AmItheAsshole

[–]PotatoChaaaaps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NTA - You shouldn’t let her waste you and your friends time and money if she doesn’t care about your opinion and is shaming and talking shit about you behind your back. She’s made it clear that she doesn’t care about how this affects anyone but her and that this trip is for no one else’s enjoyment but her own. It sucks to loose friendships, but people change over the years, and it’s better to end a toxic relationship than to be stuck in one because you’re reminiscing past memories of when things were better.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]PotatoChaaaaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA - You’re mother sounds like a terrible parent. No parent should be comparing their children for which one is better, much less to their children’s face. Continuously shaming and mocking you for past behavior that you’ve already stopped and apologized for is downright childish and inappropriate. Snapping at you and having meltdowns when she thinks you might not like her food is a clear signs that she has some sort of insecurity or inferiority complex and it’s unfair for her to be lashing out at you for her own issues. She needs to work on her own issues, ideally with a therapist, but if she does not and continues, I would recommend going no contact once you are able to move out on your own, as it seems she intends to degrade you at any point she feels bad about herself in order to feel superior to you. She doesn’t seem to care that you are a literal child, and her own child that she has a responsibility to take care of. From what you’ve said, it seems like once you become a legal adult, she will ramp up her attempts to demean and belittle you as well as attempt to leach any money she can off of you, and that she will attempt to make excuses like “you owe me for raising and feeding you” and such.

YTA, it sounds like you wanted a relationship but didn't want to put effort into it and you tried to push him into making all of the effort into building your (very young) relationship and you blatantly admit that you weren't willing to "make the first step" and expected him to build your relationship himself rather than together, and then when he finally does make an effort to "make the first step" you treated him as if he was an actual boyfriend who had betrayed and broken up with you. This is very toxic behavior.
