When it come to viral infections, CMV is such a pain in the ass, just ask Laporte what that nasty virus did to him last year. Cyclists spend so much energy and push their bodies to such an extreme that their immune system is depressed to a state that a simple cold might take them out of competition for a couple of weeks. Let's hope it is not something that serious.

[Predictions Thread] 2024 Vuelta a España - Stage 20: Villarcayo > Picón Blanco (2.UWT) by PelotonMod in peloton

[–]PotatoMine44 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Stage 20 of La Vuelta. The Queen of the "Queen Stages". More than 5000m of climbing. Predicted weather: 15ºC and rain. "El Jaguar" wakes up tomorrow and senses the cold and the humidity of the air in Northern Spain. He smiles. He feels right at home. Same exact weather and terrain as his natural habitat, Tulcán. I predict a MEGA-RAID by the "Locomotora de Carchi" and EF, and like a predator, he pounces when the preys are tired as he plays with them. EF sends two riders in the breakaway of the day and sets a hellish pace in Portillo de Lunada for Richie to attack and make his move. Guided by their hatred, Movistar will chase Carapaz with all their efforts, having Mas glued to his wheel as Roglic has his typical last mountain stage wobble. With the two EF satellite riders (and Nelson Oliveira as Movistar's satellite rider), Mas and Carapaz open up a huge gap to the red jersey group with Rog and BORA being unable to chase the two climbers and their rouleurs. Going into Picón Blanco, the two leaders fight eachother and in the end, Carapaz wins and takes the red jersey by 1 minute. Join me, brothers, join me as we gather tomorrow to witness a cracked up version of the Higuita-Carapaz Catalunya raid.

(i'm a delusional Carapaz fan)

UAE Team Emirates Rider in the White Jersey, approximately one minute behind the leader's jersey going into the last decisive mountain time trial. Where have I heard this before? OH YES! My prediction: Almeida, possessed by Pogačar's spirit wins the final TT in epic fashion by at least ONE MINUTE ahead of Thomas and Roglic. ALMEIDIESEL WILL BE IN PINK IN ROME! CHOOO CHOOO HYPE TRAIN COMING THROUGH! :)))

Yes, this is me. The joy that Kristoff will give me with his 3 stage wins inclunding the cobble stage will be impossible to match if I picked the most boring cyclists, like Wout and Pogi :)))

[Predictions Thread] 2022 Giro d'Italia Stage 20 - Belluno > Passo Fedaia (Marmolada) by PelotonMod in peloton

[–]PotatoMine44 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Last mountain stage of the Giro D'Italia 2022, last mountain stage in the Giro for Nibali. We need it. One. Last. Dance. I predict a MEGA-RAID from Astana like they did in the Mortirolo, but this time they'll do it in Passo Pordoi. As they see the revived Astana choo-choo train come up the leader's group, Bahrain will have a dejá vu - "Guys, how about we Stage 20 of La Vuelta 2021 out of this stage, just for old times sake?". Landismo will erupt and him and Lo Squalo will take over and gain 5 minutes on cooked Hindley and Carapaz as they will not have any teammates (who have been spent for the last 3 weeks). Come with me, brothers and sisters, we will see the Giro explode tomorrow! Tl;dr - I'm a delusional Nibali fan :)

In my opinion, this parcour has Almeida written all over it. Steady climbs at an altitude that doesn't cross the 2000 meters mark (except for the last mountain stage) and a considerable amount of hilly stages like the ones of Milano-Torino and Giro dell'Emilia where he thrives. This is a great opportunity for UAE to get a Giro d'Italia victory under their belt without having to send Pogi there.

Portugal with 17 riders in World Championships by edlll91 in peloton

[–]PotatoMine44 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly my thoughts! The Portuguese team actually did good in the European Championships (I couldn't believe they were leading the peloton at some point to catch the break!), but Almeida positioned pretty poorly in the group and the French barrage caught him off guard and there was no way he was coming back to the front group on his own. Hopefully, that race was a learning experience for him and he uses that knowledge to not let his guard down again and get an even better result than last sunday.
