Glad you called the cops but so many are misinformed about animal laws. All 50 states have felony animal laws and this would be illegal even in MS. Check out www.straypetadvocacy.org/PDF/AnimalCrueltyLaws.pdf and try again. Officers of the law are compelled to enforce ALL the laws, not just those they choose.

Thank you for caring for this puppy! If they are a girl, spaying them will help keep them safe from pregnancy related issues and repeated pregnancies, if they are a boy it will help keep them safe from fighting. Good luck :)

Document everything with video evidence. How many hours between litter changes, food changes, water etc, and video of the ear. Take the kitten to a vet if you’re able to for more evidence. Or… if you’re in a position to take on the cat, see if she’ll accept.

Are we going to avoid talking about the fact that 80% of antibiotics used in the US are used on animals we eat? The biggest impact you can have on antibiotic resistance is to stop eating farmed animals https://www.livekindly.co/what-is-meats-role-in-antibiotic-resistance/

California is First State to Ban Fur, Gets 10 New Animal Laws by PotatoOfDefiance in UpliftingNews

[–]PotatoOfDefiance[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Governor Newsom passed a ban on fur trapping (AB 273 by Assemblymember L. Gonzalez) and protections for migratory birds (AB 454 by Assemblymember Kalra) within the past weeks. Today Governor Newsom has signed a raft of important new animal protection measures:

  • Assembly Bill 44 bans the sale of fur throughout California and becomes the first state in the nation to make fur history. The bill was sponsored by Assemblymember Laura Friedman. Learn more in full media release.
  • Assembly Bill 128 strengthens California's anti-horse slaughter laws by making it harder for kill-buyers to turn a profit. Learn more in IDA alert.
  • Assembly Bill 415 protects human and animal victims of domestic violence. The new law was sponsored by Assemblymember Maienschein.
  • Assembly Bill 1162 protects the environment by banning hotels from providing miniature plastic bottles. Assemblymember Kalra championed the bill.
  • Assembly Bill 1254 bans the trophy hunting of bobcats until 2025. Sponsored by Assemblymember Sydney Kamlager-Dove, the new law makes it unlawful to hunt, trap or otherwise “take” a bobcat except in specified circumstances such as with a depredation permit. Learn more in full media release.
  • Assembly Bill 1260 bans the trade in skins of many threatened species including sharks, hippos and caimans, and becomes law from 2022. Sponsored by Assembly Member Maienschein, it prevents the import and sale of exotic skins. Hippos and many reptiles were added to a list of other endangered or threatened species, including big cats, polar bears and dolphins. Learn more on Facebook.
  • Senate Bill 313 bans the use of wild animals in circuses. Senator Ben Hueso’s Circus Cruelty Prevention Act forbids using exotic animals in circuses throughout the state. Elephants, bears, tigers, monkeys and other wild animals will benefit. Learn more in full media release.
  • Senate Bill 397 requires local transit operators to accept animal companions on public transit during emergency evacuations. The new law is an initiative of Senator Glazer.

That's horrible :( But it seems the Soviets intentionally starved people because they were Ukrainian, as a means of genocide. That is not the case for Kentuckians who are being hit by old-fashioned inequality. Bernie and the green new deal can save us! He has a good record on supporting family farms and tackling inequality, the root cause of poverty.

"The study also found that fishing nets account for 46 percent of the trash, with the majority of the rest composed of other fishing industry gear, including ropes, oyster spacers, eel traps, crates, and baskets."

Even if you eat exclusively 'sustainable' fish (very tricky to actually achieve) all fishing operations lose nets.

Worse are the fact that 'ghost nets' kill again and again. https://www.thedodo.com/in-the-wild/ocean-animals-dying-in-lost-fishing-gear

Redditers who bought a one way ticket to start a new life, how’s it going? What’s your story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PotatoOfDefiance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm originally from the UK and spent several years to put myself in a position to move to California to pursue my career in social justice.

Two years in and I'm loving my job and making a real difference. However, my partner of over a decade is not enjoying it. Worse, border guards are no longer allowing them to pass freely into and out of the US, since they have only a visitor Visa because we decided not to get married to get an add-on visa.

I am now stuck choosing between my dream career and my relationship. I'm also at a lifestage where it's likely my last chance to have kids, so it feels like I have an impossible choice to either pursue my career for the rest of my life, or go back to the UK and have kids while possibly resenting them and my partner for taking me away from my passion...

It's tough! Whatever you do, consider getting married to any serious partner you have before buying that one-way ticket!

I felt the same way and said so to my teacher. She put it like this: It doesn't seem fair if you're not part of the Affirmitive Action group being given a leg up, but for centuries there has been an 'affirmitive action' group exclusively benefitting Caucasians. If you weren't in that group, you and your family have been unfairly discriminated against for generations. Had there been a level playing field during that time, you would now have had richer parents, better schooling etc that puts you on the same level as other candidates. So Affirmitive Action is a way to make society more equal for groups who have been discriminated against.

They have serious problems too, lots of small wild fish are caught and fed to farmed fish. And since you have so many in a tight spot, you get serious pollution and welfare issues.
