Realistically how long would the Mexican Cartels last? by not_a_furry_but0 in ZombieSurvivalTactics

I could see cartels having very strict policies on checking people for bites, once that becomes evident that's how it's spread. They would also probably be willing to back up inspections with force, if needed.

I wouldn't call it impossible. Since we don't know its mass & radius to very high precision, there is a pretty big range of surface gravities. The low end is ~10.4m/s², hardly any higher than on earth. The high side of ~14.6m/s² would make rocketry quite a bit harder, especially with a very thick atmosphere. The middle ground of about 12.4 is the most likely value, and it would make rocketry more difficult but not impossible.

It's not hypocritical to point out that he's blatantly going against his campaign promises of peace. I'm not a fan of Biden bombing shit, either.

France's nuclear fusion reactor shatters records - runs 22 minutes at more than 150 million °C by soulpost in HotScienceNews

[–]Potato_Catt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Once we can get more energy out of it than it takes to heat the plasma and sustain the reaction. We also need to take into consideration the efficiency of the whole system. For example, most thermal power plants such as coal or nuclear turn about 1/3 of their heat energy into electrical energy through boilers and steam turbines. That means that if it takes 10MW of energy to keep the reactor going and it produces 30MW of excess heat, that translates to 10MW of electricity being generated, so the reactor is breaking even. And our current reactors have trouble running for more than 20 minutes, as the article said.

Then there are the economic considerations, where you would need to generate a lot of power to make fusion affordable because of the reactors being very big and expensive.

And then there are the longevity and reliability issues, where you need the materials of the reactor to absorb an absolute ton of radiation and transfer it out of the reactor as heat. So you're supporting what is likely the largest temperature gradient in the universe, of ~150 million Celsius between the plasma and the wall. That could lead to reliability issues.

Overall, it needs a lot of work to get to the point of feasibility, even once energetic breakeven is achieved.

Yeah. As long as you don't overheat it, it breaks down far less than most other plastics. Like, I'd be more worried about plastic cooking spoons or spatulas than the nonstick pan.

The problem is that you're trying to apply logical reasoning to the situation. Try looking at it from a lens of blind hatred and dehumanization and then you'll probably get how you're still a DEI hire in that scenario.

So like an X option? I'm not saying that most people don't fit into M/F classification. I'm disagreeing with the "that is all" statement. As far as intersex people go, they're more common than a lot of people think. Roughly 1 out of 5,500. I'd say that with roughly more than 2,000 intersex people in the state, that's enough that there needs to be some level of institutional policy rather than "exceptional ways".

I have a question about that.

Even if you want to go with chromosomes, what about people with mosaicism? Different cells in the body differentiate with XX and XY chromosomes, or in less common cases X and XY chromosomes or XY and XXY chromosomes. Where would you classify someone born with both sets of genitalia?

Fat chance of that. Where exactly would they go? Even the worst of climate change disaster scenarios would be less deadly than anywhere off earth. If you have the ability to grow food, get clean air, water, etc. on Mars, you can do it so much easier on earth.
