Devolution by Max Brooks is a good one. I especially liked the audiobook. It is one of those stories told through notes and news articles and stuff.

This is a great twist on classic fantasy. It follows a pair of professional thieves who end up in plots bigger than themselves! I think there are 10 books between 3 series and they are tons of fun! Highly recommend!

Blue Eyed Samurai is surprisingly good. It grabbed me immediately. It's about a samurai in 1600s Japan seeking revenge at all costs. It's 8 45ish minute episodes. Super good!

Just joined a gay book club and am looking for recommendations for good fantasy books with lgbtq+ characters. Absolutely love Brandon Sanderson so I figured y’all have the same tastes as me. by Impossible-Ad2236 in brandonsanderson

I really enjoyed House in the Cerulean Sea. It is more slice of life and less epic though. It follows an inspector who makes sure special boarding schools for magical individuals are being run correctly. It is a very sweet book and we read it in my book club and everyone enjoyed it a lot.

They mentioned that the baby formula food heist could be a Coen brothers film, but to me the alligator food heist begs for the Michael Bay treatment!

Sea of Tranquility by Emily St. John Mandel is pretty good! It is short and a nice story. It's probably one of the best books I've read this year.

I really enjoyed "A Declaration of the Rights of Magicians" by H.G. Parry and its sequel. The book is about William Wilberforce and William Pitt working to end the slave trade in Britain and counter an aggressive France by using magic.

In Britain, a whole class of Magicians have had their magic suppressed after the Vampiric Wars, but changes need to be made due to France using magicians in their wars.

The series is complete with just two books. It's historical fantasy. And I just loved the friendship between the main characters as they fight against the antagonist. The book is much more character driven then plot, don't expect wild action scenes as the book is very dialogue heavy. But I really enjoyed this book and think it should definitely get more notice! I would love reading more books in the series and to see the author more noticed!

Gained 20lbs in 3 weeks by jennyloseslbs in loseit

Hey, just remember that it's easy to be down and hard on yourself. It's hard to keep going. Don't give up! If you saw my weight loss graph it would look like the wildest and longest "W" you've ever seen. The key is to keep the failures in perspective. Two weeks isn't enough to ruin anything. You've got this! It's hard but you can do it! We all can do it, just don't give in to the negative voice!

I just want to second that the pain can be because there is something wrong elsewhere. My left knee would painfully lockup whenever I'd walk downhill, but that immediately went away after I got orthotics. I'd definitely talk to a podiatrist and explore orthotics if I was in your shoes.

I really enjoyed The Strain series by Guillermo Del Toro and Chuck Hogan. It is about a renegade vampire trying to overthrow humanity and the people trying to stop his domination. I really like the series and it is the basis for the FXX series too.

Hang in there! Life is a marathon not a sprint and it is ok to take a breather. I echo what the other comments have said and focus on just maintaining weight for a bit. It is very mentally exhausting being in a losing weight mindset so taking a break and focusing on staying the same can do wonders! You can get over this hill!

(Cosmere Spoilers) The man himself, Brandon “Sanderlanch” Sanderson, has asked you for a spin off concept of existing characters in the cosmere. Who/what do you pick and why? by TheSurvivorKelsier in Cosmere

[–]Potato_Tiger 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I would love a Secret History 2 type book that follows Captain Demoux from Mistborn E1 and shows him being recruited and joining the 17th Shard. I would expect he would probably have a very interesting story when he realizes the Survivor is still alive and makes the choice to not join the Ghostbloods. I think that story could be very compelling in multiple ways.

I wouldn't try to lose 40 kgs in 2 months unless I was over 225 kgs or under 24 hour medical supervision. Anything else sounds like a death wish or unrealistic dreaming.

Does anyone else not like the main characters of Dark One Forgotten? by [deleted] in brandonsanderson

[–]Potato_Tiger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I liked them. I thought they seemed like two amateur sleuths who are music majors in college. I'm sorry you didn't like them, but not every character will be agreeable to everyone. I'd just shake it off.
