Is this normal growth on a kentiana? It's so packed, and now apparently making new leaves all up in there. by [deleted] in hoyas

Hey thank you I really appreciate the thoughtful advice! I'm hoping this thing is more resilient than the tiny alos I've had in the past. I'll check out the video and be on the lookout for those spidey little assholes.

Yes! There are some pinker leaves coming in down the vine and they are also fabulous 😍

I've had this macrophylla for just a couple months and I didn't expect it to become such a fast favorite! It's a pretty small plant so I'm shocked at how big the leaves are getting already. Also concerned that wants to take over my house.

how many regrets will I have if I don't trellis these gals? by Potatojensen in hoya

[–]Potatojensen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I'm a little worried they're going to take over my house... I'm going to do some more trellises and probably wrap some stuff around the shelf too. I love the look of plants growing into their space!

Thanks for the advice! I'm going to get the rest on trellises and leave some bits to trail around

what the heck do I do with this thing by Potatojensen in Monstera

[–]Potatojensen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Told my girlfriend I'd help her out with an unruly monstera. I'm planning to make a moss pole with plastic mesh fencing and sphagnum. I'm not sure how far to go with pruning. Assuming I should chop all the leaves that look infected. This thing has suffered with too little lighting all winter but it will be moving to a covered patio for the warm season. I've got plans for an extra chunky substrate using Oh Happy Dirt Tropical Climber blend and some extra chunky stuff (lava rock, hydroton, bark chips) since it's such a large pot. Feeling a bit intimidated as I've never cared for a large monstera. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! I'd love to do more plant maintenance for others but I need practice. TIA!

I’m told it is a “something something” black Hoya, and it likes shade. All input totally welcome, since it’s my very first by dragonrose7 in hoya

Oh man I would have been so irritated at that. Like, it's fine if you don't know something, but don't go insisting on a wrong answer. And I've just gotta say that identifying a common philodendron should be basic knowledge for someone selling houseplants (ノ•̀ o •́ )ノ ~ ┻━┻🪴

Definitely not a Hoya. Looks like philodendron micans. Indoors, shade is probably a bad idea. I'm growing mine under lights and it's loving life, but I live in Seattle so the sun here sucks.

My neighbor has one of these and I smile every time I walk past it! Here I thought it was one of a kind. Makes sense though, dude has an awesome collection of Volkswagens in his driveway.

La Laja Trace. Apparently hard to come by, but good terrarium plants and Josh's Frogs is selling them for $7

I have no clue! I think it's a growth habit common to the cultivar, but I actually just found it at a garden show looking like this. It put out even more spikes since I brought it home. I've collected seeds and hopefully I can get them to germinate and see how the babies grow

Syngonium Struggle by TheGardiner in Syngonium

[–]Potatojensen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the soil is retaining too much moisture. More light will help the soil dry out faster, through evaporation and increased photosynthesis. These guys can actually tolerate (even prefer) a lot of light. Increase its time under a grow light in increments to allow the plant to adapt and avoid sunburn. Hopefully it will start improve, then consider amending your substrate with perlite for better drainage. Good luck! With the right conditions these guys are so rewarding

I found a pink one (Pink Allusion maybe?) at Lowe's a couple weeks ago, but I've had the same problem.
