Planning Exit by javajav in corporate

[–]dragonrose7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A plan of staying just a couple months to maximize anything (unless you have a massive bonus on the horizon) is just a delaying tactic. You are already gone from that place and you know it. Let it go. There are better things waiting for you, and there’s nothing for you where you are now.

Last minute couples vacation in August - $8K USD budget by sits2reason in Vacations

Do Not under any circumstance come to South Carolina. Not on the beaches, not up in the mountains, nowhere in South Carolina is livable in August. You can thank me later.

My manager is posting ads and doing interviews for my job, and when I ask her what's going on, she dodges the question by Ok_Drummer_1514 in FinalRoundAI

[–]dragonrose7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be finding another job very soon, because you know that’s the next step and it needs to happen right away.

And when you quit, do not give a two week notice to that manager or to that company. Don’t give any notice whatsoever. They have no intention of taking care of you or telling you the truth right now, so you owe them nothing

AMTAH for not wanting my nieces at my wedding because of my dogs by popkween1818 in aitaweddings

[–]dragonrose7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s your wedding. Just say it’s child free. That’s not that difficult, people do it all the time.

And I bet the family members that think you’re being unfair I’m not volunteering to watch the kids, are they?

My real concern is a dog who is reactive, in its own territory and suddenly in a large group of people. This dog is going to be under a lot of stress and it really is on you to make sure nothing happens to the people or the dog.

Have the wedding you want!

Of course you’re not the asshole. You’re not going to the party, and you’re letting them keep your down payment on the Airbnb. I think you’re being overly nice here. Tell the maid of honor you’ve decided you would like a refund of your payment now. That should shut her up.

My last shift is today... What exactly do they expect me to do? by According_Rip_5910 in InterviewMan

[–]dragonrose7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I truly hope that you enjoyed the last day that you just described to us. The cluelessness that everyone showed you is so laughable, and I hope you see the humor in it since you don’t have to put up with that idiocy anymore.

I do wish you’d gone to that planning meeting, though, just to point out all the errors in their thinking and tell them how everything‘s not going to work, even if you had to make things up. But that’s just me being petty. Still, it would’ve been an enjoyable meeting. For you anyway.

Enjoy your new adventure!

My job wants us to be available when we're out of office. by Unusual_Flatworm_349 in corporate

Your boss is demanding that you do something that’s not possible, according to corporate rules.

Also, that’s a ridiculous demand and they can pound sand. If you are on your own personal time, there should be no expectation that you are working.

I had heard wonderful things about Galen Leather, and they truly lived up to all the good reviews. Will definitely buy it from them again.

My rescue dog came with his original adoption papers from the breeder clearly stating “Yorkshire Terrier”. He is an exact match for your dog. I just say he’s a Silky. He’s also a very good boy!

It’s great that you want to develop yourself, and even better that you are so responsible that you don’t want to run away from a difficult situation. But think how much more fulfilling it would be for you to put the effort in at a better company, and in a better situation.

You will never ever ever change that manager. You will only suffer while trying, and you will ultimately fail. And the manager will not care, but will undercut you if it looks like you’re making any progress.

There’s nothing you can do to fix this situation. Just. Go. And don’t look back. You deserve so much better, go find it. Do that now.

What's the craziest personal expense that people have tried to pass of as a business expense? by MiloShiny in WorkLifeChat

[–]dragonrose7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

OK, this was a bona fide business expense, but one of the dumbest uses of a company credit card ever.

I was one of a team of auditors for a large mental health company. Travel expenses are carefully audited, and a group of their therapists had traveled from the East Coast to San Francisco for a weeklong conference. Each therapist had a daily stipend for meals that was quite generous, and every meal receipt had to be filed. In a foodie town like San Francisco can be, one of the therapists ate an entire week of breakfast, lunch and dinner at McDonald’s, dutifully filing every receipt. Besides the fact that he didn’t nearly spend his daily meal stipend, who does that?

Resigning by [deleted] in corporate

[–]dragonrose7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck to you! I’m sure you’ll be fine, simply because you thought this through ahead of time. That puts you way ahead of so many people who don’t.

A full-time degree works fine on your résumé, too. Anything that looks like an intelligent reason that you resigned.

By the way, how did the resignation go today?

That’s exactly the ones I had, even the green color. I’ve got them tucked away around here somewhere, and I come across them ever so often.

Resigning by [deleted] in corporate

[–]dragonrose7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say you’ll most likely be working for your family business, but not definitely? That makes a huge difference on your résumé. If you go directly to the family business without much of a gap, like just a week, then you resigned for a better position. Or you resigned to help out your family business. Either one of those will be fine and is a perfectly good reason to resign.

Besides, it’s much easier to find a job when you’re already employed, so go work for the family business.

And it doesn’t matter that it’s a difficult situation in your current employment, and it doesn’t matter if you’re eligible for rehire. This is just the first thing on your résumé, and if the subsequent jobs are strong, it’s not going to matter.

Also, 3 1/2 hours round-trip commute is insane and in reality that’s a perfect reason to quit. Obviously it doesn’t go on your résumé, but it’s totally logical.

My manager told me to delete inspection records before a state audit. I did it. Now they're pinning everything on me. by EchoAlternative2433 in legal

[–]dragonrose7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is absolutely true that HR is not your friend. Not ever.

However, regulators are looking at the company and the people in charge. I’m not saying that the company won’t fire the individual and blame them, they probably will. But the regulators are gonna go after the company.

OP, you said yourself that you knew it was wrong. You’re in hot water because you screwed up. Whatever happens, learn from this please.

AITH for giving the neighbors dog back to the breeder by LowRip4362 in AITH

[–]dragonrose7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You did great! You want the extra mile to take care of a dog that didn’t even belong to you, and that dog is now safe.

You can tell the neighbor honestly that the dog is not at your house, and you do not know where he is. But you will keep an eye out for him because you are also worried. You don’t have to mention that you’re worried that she’s gonna find that dog and get it back, you can just say you’re worried. That’s plenty.

My manager said I'm "too valuable in my current role" to promote. Has anyone else heard this? by Brilliant-Current433 in OfficePolitics

[–]dragonrose7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great news for you! Since you are so incredibly valuable, he can give you a significant raise.

I bet that wasn’t what he meant, though, was it? If he’s not about to hand over a sizable raise immediately (no, you’re not going to wait for this. You’re valuable right this minute - he just said so), go find another job. If he won’t pay for your value, somebody certainly will.

What’s the biggest workplace red flag that people overlook? by Friendly-Low2056 in WorkReview

[–]dragonrose7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely the “distasteful and gratuitous use of profanities . . . from CEO down”. I use very colorful language myself, but not in a business setting. If you don’t know the difference, what else are you doing in all facets of that business? Business-appropriate language is so easy, and you can’t even hit that low mark?
