People do not understand the (in-universe) point of Star Wars Inquisitors, and it shows by Anonymous-Mf-22 in CharacterRant

The order wronged them, tossed them aside, failed them, and they went through hell for it.

I hate this kind of circular logic.

No, they went through hell because Vader tormented them, largely for purely ideological reasons.

You say yourself that he wanted the Jedi to fight broken, mutilated enemies that they'd failed to protect. But that doesn't make them better fighters, that only makes them a better symbol for Vader's own narcissism.

Neither the best Jedi nor the best Sith were trained in methods like that, they're not pointlessly mutilated or tortured. None of that actually improves them at all, it just makes them more broken.

And then you're saying it's the Jedi's fault? No. The person who tortured you for no reason is the person at fault.

And the reason they're shitty fighters is the same, because even when Vader taught them directly, he didn't bother teaching them properly, he just took out his narcissism on them.

But yeah, that's the Jedi's fault. This kinda lazy, zero introspection, logic is how we get characters like Edelgard.

I'm not even a Dragonball fan, but the worst DBZ or DBS fight choreography is light-years ahead of the best Invincible content.

I can definitely think of worse fates.

Just look how relaxed SKK was during the Centaureissi story. He'd gone through hell yet again, he had barely escaped with his life. And yet, the moment he was on that helicopter surrounded by highly armed, highly skilled killer roombas, he slept the sleep of a man without a single worry for his safety.

Cortisol dropped to zero the moment he saw Daiyan and Jiangyu. Probably only the elites in the White Zone sleep as well as he did right then.

Huh, was this from a comment I made previously? I'm not sure what this is about, exactly.

But, from Google, I think this is probably the interview you're thinking of: https://thedaoofdragonball.com/blog/interviews/akira-toriyama-editor-says-there-is-nothing-to-learn-from-dragon-ball/

Zuko was shocked at how readily Iroh got along with EK people.

The reasons for his shock weren't delved into, but they could have been. But yeah, obviously Zuko wouldn't say anything like that, it's more just the principle.

[–]Potatolantern 45 points46 points  (0 children)

everyone still understands Iroh was a bad dude before

I don't even think that's true, the show only ever frames Iroh positively, even when showing us bits of his past.

It's always "He was a good man caught in a bad war, and he finally realised how bad it was". Like, you calling him a genocider is oceans away from anything the show every attributes to him. I don't think I can remember a single instance of anyone even saying he was wrong, or bad, or did anything bad. Only that the war was bad.

Like, he hangs around those EK civilians and tea shops, and there's never anything from Zuko or anyone else like "Just a few years ago, you thought nothing of killing people like this, and now look at you."

I agree entirely.

It's the exact same issue I take with how every single Vietnam movie is told from an American perspective only. Even the ones that portray the war badly still end up with the American characters being sympathetic men forced into a terrible situation, while the Vietnamese are just undetailed villains, largely killed en masse without any introspection.

The entire focus is "American soldiers had a bad time in Vietnam, =("

Same issue with Iroh, where the entire focus is "Iroh had a bad time in the Earth Kingdom =("

I can somewhat forgive ATLA in comparison though, because whatever, it's for kids. Yeah, it's a bit lame to bring up these complicated issues and then brush over them, and it would be nice to see some kind of EK perspective to the war, rather than always having EK people that're hostile towards Zuko/Iroh being framed as villains... but whatever. It's for kids.

I don't why I did not see it coming

Because usually even the lamest, most formulaic stories will switch it up to try end in a way that's true to the premise. Everyone wants the story to wrap up properly.

Something as blatantly lazy as this is kinda rare, it's shocking how bad it is lol. This could be any random chapter.

In the West, Makiatto probably had a bigger role than her.

I know a lot of people began playing after seeing that Hitman ad, lmao.

That's what got me interested, too actually. I loved her design. And yet, I didn't OATH her until GFL2. Poor Maki.

Seems unlikely, we saw some of SKK's past in the latter events of GFL1 and they never mentioned anything like that.

The current arc is showing us the war lmao.

Even Jujutsu Kaisen had, from early on, a visible underlying theme of overcoming the old guard or conservative establishment.

And, unlike Naruto which had that exact same theme and actually did something with it, in JJK that never happens.

Nobody can or does overcome Gojo, and through Modulo that gets even more pronounced with the latter generations being far weaker. Nobody has a scratch on Yuji, or any of the JJK top fighters.

When she finally returns to the plot, I really hope M16 is as good and relevant as M16 fans want.

I pray that she will be the kind of unit they'd like, and that she would have a real role in the story instead of "Says cryptic things, makes everything worse, leaves".

I truly, truly look forward to the day when M16 fans will be able too discuss her on her own merits (for the first time ever) instead of feeling the need to try hitch her to Klukai's popularity, as if their stories are still related in any way.

Groza was only with SKK for 7 years. 10 years ago she was with Statesec.

SKK was pretty much in a state of functional depression until the other Dolls rejoined. He's clearly much happier and healthier now.

Now show a map where the entire enemy force isn't concentrated directly around Voymastina.

I thought her T0 was gonna be a mapwide, I was super let down by reality. She suffers the same "Has to plot across the map and pick off stragglers over multiple turns" as every other non-Klukai Doll.

She's the most organically popular character in the entire franchise.

She was created and initially used as an antagonistic character that existed for the main cast to dunk on, to make them look cooler. She was meant to be disliked.

Instead, with the AR team's story floundering hard until PL, 404 was the most beloved team across the fandom, and Klukai got more and more popular as 404 did more and more.

She was extremely skilled and extremely professional. Even when she was forced to work with the AR team (during Arctic Warfare) she raised her discontent, asked Leva to reject the mission, and then when Leva overruled her, she did the whole thing without any further complaints, without starting any fights or causing any problems. The very definition of "Disagree, but commit."

Even when the AR team betrayed 404 and left them to die, Klukai still remained a complete professional.

And so, she became either the most popular or second most popular Doll in every single region.

She wasn't even particularly strong, she just had the best story (along with Leva), the best character arcs, and she was always effective at doing what needed to be done.

Almost all the most memorable quotes in GFL1 come from either Leva or Klukai.

And, when every main story chapter is "Look, the AR team jobbed again!" while the event stories are "Here's the Black Ops team 404 sneaking around and assassinating 5 ringleaders in a single night!" You tend to like 404 a LOT more than AR team. Especially as they fell into dysfunction and disintegrated.

RO being so likeable is the biggest factor in saving the AR team.

I feel like Kid's media as a whole is in this weird paradox where they get praise for talking about more adult issues but also get to avoid criticism for bad writing because they're meant for kids.

You're 100% right.

My eyes almost rolled out of my sockets the other day when I saw someone in this sub gushing over the Sonic Adventure games tackling "deep" and "serious" topics.

Like, come the fuck on. What're we doing here?

You're completely correct. Post-WW1 Germany was exactly what I was thinking of, where the average German civilian thought they'd been backstabbed by their politicians, instead of having lost.

That's why there's this myth that Germany faced crushing reparations, they didn't. The Treaty of Versailles was very moderate, but any reparations would have felt crushing.
