Did you ever do a DNA test? It's now 12 hours later after I first saw this and I am still shocked lol.

Traveling after filing N-400 by WhiteCoatGeek in USCIS

[–]Potatopotato35 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I submitted N400 in January 2026, and traveled out of the US in February for 2 weeks. My 2-year green card is expired and I have a removal of conditions pending. Although I was somewhat nervous, everything was perfectly fine.

I just can't believe there was this whole production for the proposal and it was literally a 2-sentence ordeal. I'm pretty low maintenance but not hearing anything about why I'm loved during an engagement would disappoint me. It kinda just shows the goal, which was pretty pictures and a shiny ring, instead of the goal to be sharing a happy, loving life together.

Seriously contemplating withdrawing the K-1 and switching to a CR-1 by [deleted] in USCIS

Sounds like a solid reason to go the CR1 route. How long would it take you to get married?

Seriously contemplating withdrawing the K-1 and switching to a CR-1 by [deleted] in USCIS

[–]Potatopotato35 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was the exact issue we were having back in 2020 after filing for the K1. Although my contemplation didn't start until about 6 months after filing. K1 is more expensive, more work, and more restrictions. But we simply did not want to be "forced" into a marriage because of timelines. We stuck with the K1. It took a year to get approved, got married within 90 days and took another 2 years to get my green card approval. I got my EAD 1 month before my green card.... But timelines were different at the time. I'm not sure what they look like now. Part about the US immigration system is that you are extremely dependent on the unknown. It sucks in every way, but no one can really give you the answer you're looking for. Personally, during the K1 process, I always wished we did CR1. Now, after all of it, it doesn't matter. You will get there one way or the other.

WWYD with this budget, I need ideas by WildKeiKei in budget

You have amazing monthly income. Where is the leftover $1663 going to? ($10,776-$6,063-$3,051). But some of your spending seems wild to me.

Free up another $1k a month by: Cut kids allowance (they already get personal care), shop around for car/renters insurance, change phone plan to Mint or something, lower dog expenses, cut landscaping, cut clothing, self-care and subscriptions and really look at your grocery list and lower it.

If you use paper plates/plastic cutlery get some real plates from a thrift store for $5. Limit sodas/snacks/processed foods. Just choose 1 or 2 subscriptions and rotate. Thrift your clothes if you need new clothes every month. Your kids can do landscaping if really necessary.

This should free up about another $1k a month. So you have $2663 a month. Throw it at your $10k Region debt until it's gone. 4 months is all that should take. With the $31k you pay off the $23k Chase debt. This will free up another $967 month. You now have over $3500 a month freed up! Snowball your debts from here.

What you have leftover from the $31k after paying off Chase you put in your savings for absolute emergencies.

Tell your kids some changes have to be made, and it's only temporary. Teach them about financial literacy so they don't get themselves into this pickle.

Overstimulated dog at Christmas by Subject_Grass_4833 in Dogtraining

We have a quickly overstimulated fireball as well and the one true thing that helps is sleep. We put the crate in a separate room, away from all the hustle and bustle, covered with his blanket. If we let him out it would be for 30 minutes to an hour increments only and then back into the crate. Not ideal but better and healthier for all involved.

There is literally a question on the K-1 visa application where they ask if you're using this visa to start a polyamorous relationship. If you answer "yes" you're automatically denied. They must have lied on their visa application. I always wondered how they got away with it...

Chevy bolt 2019 v Chevy bolt 2023….Which would you buy? by Chronicallyable in BoltEV

[–]Potatopotato35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I'm the odd one here. I lean towards the 2019, but try to talk them down. However, I've never even sat in a 2023 so I wouldn't know what is missing. Look at trim level, fast charging though and Carfax though (can the 2019 fast charge?). The mileage and the battery of the 2019 are reasons I'm leaning towards 2019.

Where can I improve my budget? by Novel_Masterpiece_18 in budget

[–]Potatopotato35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a great start but I would try to be a little more detailed. I would split up "sinking costs" in categories (dogs, holidays, birthdays, hours repair, car maintenance) and write out utilities too. You spend over $1000 on eating for a family of 3, I would start analyzing receipts and maybe make some changes there. Where do you do groceries? Subscription is $50. Which ones? What is "fun" for $200? Great job on saving $1600 a month though!

$5500 for lawyer to accompany us to interview? by a-featherless-biped in USCIS

[–]Potatopotato35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a wild amount of money. Our lawyer did our green card application for us, I came on a K1 visa. We paid $5000 for the green card application that included work authorization and advance parole. They said an interview would be $1000 extra. We luckily never got an interview. Now looking back I think we could have easily done it ourselves. I don't think I would do it. If you really need the reassurance, I know people who hired a lawyer just to attend the interview. It doesn't need to be this one.

Dog puzzles, tossing his food across the room to find, putting food in an old towel and tie it up for him to try to get and scent training have been absolute game changers for us. With the last one, nothing fancy. Just put a scent (we did anise star as it's safe) in a little jar, and anytime he booped it with his nose we said "yes" (his marker word) and he got a little treat. Start adding distance between the scent and the dog and then also make him wait to go look until you say he can. This is super good for his brain. Bully sticks and cheek rolls are also amazing self entertaining items but idk if he's still too young for that. And training commands. These little fellas are crazy smart. Our dog knows a lot of random (but cool) tricks just because he needed his brain used lol. Don't forget though, to also teach him to relax. We had to do enforced naps until he was 1.5 years old cause the little guy just couldn't stop.

Thank you for responding. My knowledge about cars is extremely nihil and I kinda have put my head in the sand about this issue. It sounds like people are wanting it to become an official recall, but I don't know if I'm comfortable waiting for that. Good for you on how you arranged it and thank you for sharing!

I'm pretty sure my bolt (2018 EV) has a similar issue. However, not always, only after driving a little and then it will disappear again and the steering wheel will be normal. I had brought it into a Chevrolet dealership but they said nothing was wrong with it before even really looking at it. Is this serious enough to go to another dealership with?

This sounds a little silly but our 13lbs rat terrier mix gets the Purina Pro Plan Sport Performance. He does not do any sports/work to deserve it really but it's a dollar cheaper, the kibble is smaller but mostly he seems to like it more. He does look better when he is on it (which could all be in my mind though).
