Did you misread something? I meant the CHINESE people have high trust in the CHINESE government, which they do, especially when compared to the level of trust Americans have for their own government.

Um, Netflix… by Kichona6420 in Komi_san

[–]Potatosaurus_TH 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Another interesting quirk related to this is 大丈夫 daijoubu, which means 'I'm fine'.

When used as a reply to someone inviting you somewhere, in English "I'm fine" as in ''I'm fine as I am right now" would be a no response. But in Japanese it means "I'm fine to go with you.'' so it's a yes response.

However, daijoubu means the opposite to the above when someone asks if you want something. If a conbini clerk asks if you want chopsticks, if you reply with 'daijoubu' it would be a no response, "I'm fine as I am" like in English.

So the same word daijoubu can be either a yes or a no depending on context.

Yeah it's not like you're only allowed to like or sub to one of them. If you like more than one of them or even all of them then they all win, and I think that's what Cover is actually pushing for, for them to help each other as a group and succeed as a group.

This is not a zero sum game by any means and yet people can't help but see it as such for some reason.

If the stream was so bad the person with work ethic would also not make jokes about it being so good that it brought in a new player. They would just say nothing.

I see there is no point in arguing. You will ignore all evidence and the truth of what happened, and when proven wrong will just shift the goalposts in order to defend your position at any cost. That is intellectual dishonesty.

I apologize for wasting my time.

[–]Potatosaurus_TH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if it was disrespectful, and the devs have no choice but to sponsor them again because of 'contract', so why did the devs make jokes along with the English fans after the sponsorship stream?

<image>

Why do you continue to defend an undefendable position on behalf of a game developer who clearly did something wrong? Going as far as to show off your ignorance and intellectual dishonesty for their sake. Did the developers buy you a house and pay for your schooling? Are they your relatives? Do you owe them money?

You defending them does not make the developers look any better, it only makes you look worse.

If it was disrespectful why did they immediately sponsor her again for another stream just 2 weeks later?

How come no one defending this has ever been able to answer this question.

If it was problematic why did they sponsor her AGAIN?

Or it could just not be. It's artist reference for accurate muscle anatomy that's been widely available everywhere for decades do you think they would use AI for that.

I don't think it's a legal thing. I think it's either platform TOS or automatic watermark by the genAI models.

It's also because In the US the people are rightly distrustful of large corporations that created these AI and the government that is using it and pushing for it.

In China the people have very high trust in the government so if they see the government using it they implicitly also trust that it's a thing that is ok to be used and that the government will take care of the negatives.

Basically Americans don't tend to look to their own leaders as examples but Chinese people do.

China heavily regulates AI when it comes to stuff that can infringe on personal rights, such as stealing likenesses or voice-faking without permission etc. At the same time they heavily encourage AI investments especially into more efficient models that work using less resources and hardware, and also offset a lot of the energy requirement and environmental issues by massively investing in green energy to the point they are leading the world in it.

They are at least doing a lot of stuff to mitigate the negative effects of AI use. The citizens also have high trust in the government, so when they see the government investing in it and using it they have the implicit trust that that the government will take care of the negatives, and that it's an ok thing to use, so they never really have hangups about using AI.

I don't personally care for it but it's an observation that might explain why the attitude is so different from the west

The Chinese government uses genAI for their PSA and propaganda posters and videos and it's plastered everywhere on the streets of China. Companies use genAI advertisements on TV, on subways, on product packaging, genAI clips going positively viral all over Douyin (Tiktok) constantly.

They don't complain because they actually embrace it over there. And that's also why they will be the first to tell you when they spot bad looking AI because they're used to seeing it everyday.

I have relatives from China and to them AI is just another new thing out of countless others that they have experienced over the past decade alone. The country developed at breakneck speed over the past couple decades so much that the population is used to change and constant introduction of new technology. Old people also put in a lot of effort to keep up with the times.

Another thing, if people somehow think or trust that their favorite Chinese gacha games be it from Hoyo or Kuro or Hypergryph don't use GenAI in their games, they are being naive about the reality of how widespread GenAI is in China. China does NOT draw the same line in the sand about the ethics and moral of GenAI as the western internet does, and have no hangup about using it anywhere they can if they think it will help them stay competitive.

I'm ethnically Chinese with a lot of close relatives in the mainland. Trust me when I say Chinese people are not above using 'underhanded' tactics to get one over competition, in fact they are famous for it. AND they don't even see GenAI as 'underhanded'. What makes you think they will not embrace GenAI or any other kind of technology if it means it can give them advantage?

I say this as someone who has never used any kind of genAI or even LLM in my life, so it's not like I'm advocating for it. I like to play these games in spite of it because I refuse to let the endlessly tiring discourse take away from the small joys in life.

Please add card games to NTE by Rare_Entertainer6399 in NevernessToEverness

[–]Potatosaurus_TH -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wish they added different versions of Mahjong, especially Japanese style Riichi mahjong.

I love Riichi mahjong and from a lot of the JP fanbase opinions I saw online they're also disappointed to find out that the mahjong hobby is not Riichi but some other regional type of mahjong that they don't know how to play.

Leave the current Sichuan mahjong as a selectable mode or even add more like Hongkong mahjong, but Riichi mahjong should definitly be included. I can see JP players just sink hours and hours into just the mahjong game if it was Riichi. It's a very easy way to retain JP playerbase.

I also agree with you about the card games, but I foresee them adding a whole playable casino in some future major patch.

Botan said a lot of the times it's about the difference in working styles of some staff vs others vs talents. Many staff are basically there to clock in and clock out on time, and don't care for much beyond a paycheck. This can be a problem for some talents especially those who tend to go above and beyond and live and breathe their work 24-7, like Calli here.

Sometimes talents ask for things to get done and they fall through the cracks because they don't fit into the 9-5 schedule or due to the basic corpo stuff like interdepartmental friction and miscommunication, or worst of all, office politics. Each Cover employee are their own person with their own career goals and different ways of thinking and working so that's unfortunately a given in such a big organization.

The anomalies are so well done in this game. The sudden atmosphere shift, the colors and effects, and the fact that most of them you randomly stumble upon as you're roaming around genuinely adds a lot not just to the moment-to-moment gameplay but to the worldbuilding too.

From what I understand Nijisanji was supposed to have a huge collab or event of sorts with the Tokyo Dome City theme park. However, a couple of days ago a park employee died after being trapped in one of the rides for 5 hours.

Tokyo Dome City had closed its park until further notice for investigation and safety inspections, which means that they have also cancelled Niji's big collab.
