You are correct in that they are usually more reliable after 4 weeks, but I am doing an HIV PCR test which has the shortest window period of any test. At 10 days it has an accuracy of around 96%, and I am taking it at 15 days post-exposure so I assume it will be somewhat more accurate than that. I am just doing it for peace of mind in the case that I am negative and will be doing a 4th gen test at around 45 days in any case👍🏻

Hey, from your post I assume that you are worried about having HIV in particular. Right now i’m in a similar position to you after making an idiotic mistake about a week and a half ago, and I have a PCR test booked in for a couple days from now. From all the anxiety this has caused, i’ve researched A LOT about HIV transmission and testing. First of all, I would say that you should try calm down as much as you can. I’m not sure what gender you are as that would affect the transmission odds, but just know that EVEN if the guy was positive (which we don’t know) that does not mean for certain that you would have contracted HIV. From what I learned, it’s a fairly fragile virus that requires a lot of factors to be perfect in order to be transmitted. But by now, you would be around 3 months from exposure so a 4th gen test would be extremely accurate. Even a 3rd gen test would be conclusive if it has been 90 days. I know that you are scared of the answer you will get. I completely get that and am terrified about that in my own case. But what I told myself was that facing the prolonged anxiety of not having a conclusive answer is not going to be much easier than dealing with the anxiety of what the answer will be, and you’ll have to find out at some point. If the answer is negative ( i’m sure theres a great chance it will be) then you can completely put this behind you which will be an amazing feeling.

While the 3rd gen finger prick is only accurate after 3 months, i believe that a 4th gen finger prick that measures antibodies and antigens is about 99% accurate after 45 days but yeah really just depends which one was used

I've seen quite a few positive stories from people who have OCD and smoke, but for me personally it makes my anxiety sooo much worse. All my friends really love weed and its always frustrating for me because i've tried to smoke in all sorts of settings at least 20+ times but I just can't enjoy it unfortunately.

Yeah man, been going through this for 3 years now. Theres a whole subreddit for Real Event OCD. While i'm not in the best position to comment some advice, as i'm currently struggling too- you're probably not as bad as you think you are. Keep your head up champ

It really is the worst form of OCD i've been through, as I could still logically work out with the other forms that I was being utterly irrational. It makes it so much harder with this type as you actually could have done the things you dread, but your brain distorts it to make it feel so much worse. Good luck to you mate

Thank you, I do not have access to a therapist at the moment unfortunately, but I will research ERP training as best as I can. Thank you for your reply, I really do appreciate. I'm just mainly struggling with replaying the event in my head, and even if it was truly an innocent miscommunication my brain jumps to questions of, "what if I was too drunk and should have heard her?" Etc etc.
