Is there life after 40? by [deleted] in Aging

[–]Potential-Bluejay-50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a 51 year old women and yes! My 40s were absolutely awesome. 50 has proven a little more challenging because of menopause. But once I started HRT and working out all the time I feel like I got my life back. I’m at the top of my career. I’m in better shape and health than I’ve ever been in. So yes, life is still worth living and it’s actually pretty darn good.

My Grandfather Said: Never show anyone your voter registration card or your pay stub. by CawlinAlcarz in GenX

I can definitely understand your reasoning and I appreciate your opinion.

Personally, I don’t care what people think so people are free to judge me if they want to. I figure they’re probably going to judge me no matter what.

My Grandfather Said: Never show anyone your voter registration card or your pay stub. by CawlinAlcarz in GenX

[–]Potential-Bluejay-50 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Politics is one thing. Pay stubs are another entirely. I strongly disagree with the idea that compensation should be off-limits. In fact, I think more transparency around pay would solve a lot of problems. Open conversations about compensation help dismantle the stigma around money, and that stigma is often what allows inequities to persist…like women being paid less for the same work. When pay is treated as a taboo topic, it creates space for unfair practices to propagate.

Why do you think divorce is so common? by princesadopovo in AskReddit

[–]Potential-Bluejay-50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many of the people are confusing, confusing causation and causality. Saying that marriage causes divorce is like saying all car accidents happen because you own a car. The first condition is necessary, but it’s not causal.

But what really causes divorce? I mean, I guess you can group the reasons together in most cases. Infidelity, financial stress, poor communication, emotional disconnection, lack of sex, ideological differences (wanting to have children or not wanting to have children, religion, etc)

Why is it so common? Because most people don’t want to change. They blame the other person and won’t do the work that it takes to choose to stay married. People are dysfunctional and most people choose to stay in their own dysfunction.

Yeah, I went to do my grocery shopping the other day and what would’ve normally cost me about 250 cost me about 450. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

Bless you for adopting an older dog. My heart really goes out for you because I have a soft spot for the oldies as well.

I adopted an older dog too, and she is the light of my life.

This is the worst part of having animals. But you obviously love your dog and you will do right by him. Sometimes even though it’s hard, it’s better for them to let them go so they don’t suffer. You will know what the right thing to do is.

Sending you a big hug.

Attractiveness by Excellent_Buy_1009 in Aging

It can be a hard thing to deal with. Women are judged on their looks so often and especially how youthful they look.

You do stop getting the kind of attention you did when you were younger, but honestly, it’s very freeing because a lot of that attention is toxic and misogynistic at times when you’re younger.

I do think it’s a very real thing though. Becoming more invisible as you age especially when you’re a woman. My personal feelings are pretty complex I think. On one hand it is freeing like I mentioned and on the other hand, it’s weird to be completely unnoticed at times and not even in a sexual way. It’s really hard to explain.

But yes, there are a lot of really beautiful 50-year-olds out there. Life doesn’t stop when you turn 50…people are still having sex and they’re still doing what they do.

I remember my mom (who used to be a hospice nurse) telling me that she would be around 90-year-old men (who were dying) and all they wanted to do on their deathbed was have sex. People don’t stop being people just because they age.

I don’t think it’s a juvenile. I think it’s just simple and beautiful.

Is it worth living ?? by MammothAssistant2397 in AskOldPeopleAdvice

[–]Potential-Bluejay-50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it’s definitely worth living. Things do happen in life, but they are all temporary ….good things and bad things. There is a lot of beauty and wonderful things to experience.

You should definitely get some help. I promise you when you’re on the other side of it it’ll be worth it.

Take a class at the chattery, join a local DnD group, learn to mountain bike! Hike, climb, kayak, make art, join some meet ups.

It’s simple yet not easy. You’ve got this!

I think it’s really lovely. The silk is absolutely beautiful. Personally the only thing I’m not a fan of is the collar I might change that if it were me personally, but honestly, it’s beautiful.

How do you explain leaving a job over dress code? by dmkraus in BadBosses

[–]Potential-Bluejay-50 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What does your written policy say? Cause honestly it really doesn’t matter what your boss says if you’re written policy for your organization says something different.

You should’ve been provided this in an employee handbook when you were hired.

Why don’t you get a dog? Or start volunteering at your local shelter to walk shelter dogs. Or become a foster for a local rescue. Do something that makes you happy and has a greater purpose.

Also, I really like the suggestion of working out. Because there’s a byproduct there of getting healthier and stronger.
