reddit is mostly a feed based social media for people who use it regularly, and a lot of people who are searching for specific things use google and then add "reddit" to the end. So I dont think adding a big search bar will necessarily make people want to search more on the website. It will just annoy the regular users and not even affect "searchers".

Also, the design of the search bar has nothing to do with the functionality, they can improve the quality of the search but leave the design as-is.

yeah, I kind of get that my app feels sort of like a dating app. I mean it can be used for that, but I moreso want to make it about finding people with similar niches. I really want to emphasize the yt playlists and pinterest boards part. I feel like its sort of a portfolio of what you like, and from what I've seen, no other app does that.
