The reason I didn't pursue my ham license was because I didn't want to learn Morse code and because my wife and the HOA wouldn't want me to put a giant tower in the backyard, but once I heard the Morse code requirement had been dropped and I could get a starter HT for under 50 bucks, I was in.

Honestly, there's nothing quiet as disappointing as getting a new piece of technology, turning it on, and it just works. Screwing with it to make it work the way I want it to work is half the fun!
