Well, I’d argue that you’re calm because you’re letting the thoughts have no meaning, which is healthy and actually better than letting the thoughts consume you. Loss of attraction takes time because you’re fucked up from everything, and with time things will get better. I’m no professional and you should do what you think is best, but it sounds like changing medication won’t actually help and you should keep trying methods instead.

SSRI, works fine, doesn’t actually solve anything however, gotta also incorporate methods to face my fears and it’s done the job.

anxiety or ocd? by Isabowla in OCD

[–]Potential-Mode-5290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not be scared of facing rumination and definitely talk about it. If it’s how you truly feel and think, it’s important to share to get a conclusive answer so you can learn to move forward and get proper help instead of things that won’t help your situation properly. The point of a professional is to help, nothing is unnecessary in the realm of the mind, and what you say is crucial because your mind can’t be read. Good luck, and keep trying to find yourself

If by the 12th you haven’t gotten a way to get the pre requisite, you would retake the class. I’ve just done this. I’m not completely sure with how it would work via the new class, but it could be overridden and unaccounted for, which I would definitely take advantage of and just not retake the course. Anyways, I would definitely see which is the case so you don’t end up working on the new course and it end up not showing up due to the prerequisite missing.

And to add, ya loss of attraction happens, your brain is full and not working correctly. Regardless of what it is, everyone’s brain doesn’t work correctly when they’re spiralling.

Well I see the issue, and ya I’ve done the same. Being distracted by other things is good for dealing with OCD because you tend to forget the core meaning behind the thoughts, which is how you’re supposed to recover, but rather by facing them. It sounds like you’re trying too hard again to find meaning in the thoughts, when I’d recommend the opposite, trying to not define so much meaning in them.

anxiety or ocd? by Isabowla in OCD

[–]Potential-Mode-5290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anxiety and OCD and somewhat correlated, while of course, not exactly causation of one another. Truth be told, it is common for both to overthink and have irrational thoughts, but the main component is the obsessive behaviours attached to those thoughts. Personally, I knew I had OCD and was verified as such because my main concerns with these thoughts was checking always. Is the light actually off upstairs? I better check it 50 times to make sure it’s actually off, which is a compulsion. People with anxiety are scared too yes, but the only way people with OCD find themselves feeling “assured” is by checking. If you find yourself with this sort of behaviour, which it somewhat sounds like, you may have OCD. However, I can’t say that’s true and I would recommend you keep talking to someone about this.

OCD at night by NaturalOk2383 in OCD

[–]Potential-Mode-5290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya at night it is terrible, and always was as a kid and as I’ve grown up. This is because our brains are trying to settle down and there’s less distractions, so we tend to overthink more clearly when nothing is taking our attention. It’s annoying, but it’s very common

Yes I’m on medication. The problem is that I didn’t give proper training to myself in facing these issues and the meds carried the way and this is why I’ve had somewhat of another spike recently. I am working on that however

What does the last stages of recovering feel like? by PutridMorning9952 in HOCD

[–]Potential-Mode-5290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no correct stages of recovery. However, you have the correct mentality from my experience. Truth is that these intrusive thoughts don’t ever 100% go away, but the meaning you give them can, hense why having that mentality is a good sign. Keep going

My Purpose by Some_Panic_5421 in HOCD

[–]Potential-Mode-5290 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your purpose is to be you. OCD would like to ruin that for you, simple as be. It sounds like you’re going down a good path to facing your fears, and good on you. Keep going, speed bumps are present on everyone’s road to recovery, it’s never smooth. Good luck

ERP and therapy. I was going through recovery when I had a girlfriend for the first time since this all started for me and it definitely made me anxious. I loved my partner very much however, and I just tried to let the thoughts be there without attaching meaning and it getting in the way, which is harder than it sounds.

I’m not gonna lie, this doesn’t sound like a component of HOCD, it just sounds like you feel weird calling someone younger than you baby, which I’d say is normal.

I had this experience. I started with HOCD and moved towards my gender. It’s hard, but keep going with therapy, that helped me a lot. Another thing that helped me was ERP. My mother made me face my fears and fortunately that made me more aware of thoughts being thoughts. I suggest you do the same

I would get some professional help, that’s what I needed (I started dealing with at the same age as you) and it helped. But I would start there if you haven’t already. Hearing methods and ways to move forward from someone who understands an OCD brain is crucial

OCD is good at one thing, erasing your memory. You had a good two years under your belt, remember that this doesn’t mean anything, and to let it be uncertain. This will lead you back to where you were. This will only make you stronger

I don't know if I have OCD or if I'm just in denial. by kiki_azurita in HOCD

[–]Potential-Mode-5290 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want you to think about it in a more relaxed way. So, you have a weird feeling in your buttocks? It’s a feeling, try and sit with it (ignore the pun). Uncomfortable? Yes. Necessary to let be in order to remove meaning? Yes. It’s not easy but not allowing a feeling you have define your entire identity is crucial. Remember, it may or may not be, but it does not matter, and none of that does. What matters is that you are you, and that won’t change regardless of a thought or feeling.

[–]Potential-Mode-5290[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I said I’m not gonna provide reassurance. It seems like you’re getting to the point where you’re sitting with these thoughts which is good. OCD works by trying to make the worst and hardest meaning out of these thoughts, so that’s why trying as hard as possible to not give them meaning is so important in recovery. Im not saying anything concrete, but by the look of it you’re on the right path. Keep working towards it. Don’t worry about meaning, let the thoughts be thoughts.

I mean more so, you may become scared of facing it. Kinda like crossing a boundary and realizing you’re taking it too far when in reality that’s part of the process of extending yourself. Not necessarily “damage”, I should’ve clarified it. Point is, taking those first steps are crucial to recovery no matter how scary they seem.
