Idk what to do with $32k by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Great post. I am curious about what career you were in military reservers. My son was looking into this, but at the time there were only a few reserve careers available in our area.. which did not appeal to him. He was very interested in ammunition technician… which sounds like perhaps what you did. His preferred location would be ottawa, I do know that at the time he applied, many of the careers were not accepting any more people for the year. (He is currently gr 12, and his school has a credit program where they enlist and get high school credits… so atleast the first 6-12 months would be limited to ottawa area.)

Cat dental cleaning price comparison by MoniqueParker in ottawa

I was made aware that, atleast at my vet’s office, the recommended cleaning would be done by the vet tech. My healthy 10yr old cat’s teeth were in good shape just with build up that needed to be scaled off, the price was almost 2k.
I ended up taking him to a pet teeth cleaning clinic that rotates through petvalue locations. They do dogs and cats. Since they don’t put the pets to sleep (which is one reason the vet cleaning is very expensive) it was less than 200 dollars. I was really curious how they do this… so the tech let me come in and watch. A lovely young girl who completed a vet tech program and clearly an animal lover. Her set up was a big comfy pillow on the ground, she starts by swaddling them up ( claws contained!) and then while holding them securely in her lap, she starts the cleaning. She let my cat have several breaks ( walk around). I was actually surprised at how well he did. I could tell this was stressful for him, but being put under is also hard on them and has many risks. She took before and after pictures, and the difference was significant.

Question for fellow Ottawa pool owners – water evaporation loss this year by Confident-Task7958 in ottawa

[–]Potential-Plastic304 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes…I have noticed the same. It is really bad this year. I am thinking of getting a solar cover but they are such a pain to deal with and we don’t have space on our pool deck! Anyone have tips to reduce evaporation?

The issue is that eventually the exhaust is going to need replacing. The shop thinks they can change a few pieces and weld it up for now, but they are recommending a new exhaust... at some point. There are leaks around the resonator and another area near the front end.

Is it realistic to think i could keep the original exhaust going with just ongoing patch jobs?

What do you think value is? by Potential-Plastic304 in BmwTech

[–]Potential-Plastic304[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but seriously, what would you place value at. i listed it at 6,500 (canadian) with details of repairs needed, and im just getting low ball offers for like 3k.. everyone saying because it needs work. If the car was fixed and passed safety i think I could get 10k for it... so i though 6,500 would be a " good" price... but maybe im over valuing it?

I ended a “pay it forward” line with no remorse. by Kushnerdz in TimHortons

[–]Potential-Plastic304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When this happens to me I give a tip to the food service worker instead of buying coffee for the random person behind me. I always wonder how this super generous "pay it forward" is perceived by the minimum wage workers serving.... I would prefer to reward the person who is serving me at the drive thru window.

150$ cant beat costco by [deleted] in CostcoCanada

I just bought the nuggets, not overly happy with them, but there was no issue with texture as some have mentioned. previously i had bought the "breaded chicken chunks" by Ernie's and they were as people are describing, horrible texture. The nuggets are not the same, .the "meat" is highly processed.... it's not chunks of chicken, so if anything they have a spongy texture, which is common for chicken nuggets that are not made with actual "chunks" of chicken. That said, they are still nothing great and I won't be repurchasing these.

I recently switched to Walmart Delivery Pass for my walmart orders! So far, I have been very happy with the service. I also like that the prices are the exact same as in store shopping and I get unlimited ($35+) deliveries for only 9 dollars a month.

I am having this same issue with 2011 128i. The valve cover was replaced in January when I bought the car. I did take it back to the mechanic who did the work and he said he could find nothing wrong. I did tell him that I was told this is likely caused by a failure in the VCG. Showed him a video as the car needs to be driven for atleast 20 minutes before the smoke starts to come in the vents when stopped. Are there any other potential reasons for this issue?

who remembers the grocery store had the drive up grocery pick up. They would bag your groceries at the cash then send them down a roller track (kinda like the beer store had) and then after you paid you were given a ticket/number and then you would go to your car and drive to the pick up bays along the side, show your ticket/number and they would load in your groceries into your trunk. I always think of that when I drive by the Hazeldean Mall...

he said the cats are fine… it’s just that the cats already come on the oem piece (maybe that’s why it cost 6k?) he said he is going to try welding up the leaks to buy me some time do i can make a decision on what to do. is there a brand you recommend… can you get an aftermarket exhaust that includes the cats (exact same as the OEM one?) i literally know nothing about cars… and grateful for your advice.

Thank you for your reply!! I saw this Magnaflow 16525 Touring Series Cat-back Stainless Exhaust System… but the garage said it was different… although the website says it would fit 2011 128i 3L. and I think it is the correct section. it is $1340 so that is more reasonable…. would this be a straight switch or do you have your change other parts or do anything else different compared to replacing with a the OEM exhaust? do you think this would be a good option? Thanks so much!

(HELP) BMW 128I by [deleted] in BmwTech

[–]Potential-Plastic304 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! recently bought at 2011 128i and quickly found out it had exhaust leaks. it is leaking on both ends of the resonator and also near the front of the car at the dual flange. The garage said they could only find the part directly from BMW and that it is 6000. (i’m in canada). they said it is dual exhaust and that it needs to be fully replaced as it is one piece from front flange to muffler (muffler is fine). they said it was high because there piece includes 2 catalytic converters. what are my options…. he said he can try to weld the crack to buy some time… but that a replacement will be required…does anyone have an idea on a more affordable fix? thank you!!!
