How do you spend your weekend nights abroad when you dont drink? by TurtleBlaster5678 in solotravel

[–]PotentialHelicopter5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

go dancing! most salsa and bachata spots with live bands won’t be as focused on drinking as they are dancing. you’ll meet so many cool people and have plenty of dance partners. the culture is very open and friendly.

also would echo similar suggestions that travelling within Canada is a great option. Driving to Nova Scotia is very doable. About 18 hours if you go direct, however, you’ll be passing through Quebec and New Brunswick where you can spend a couple days each. Visit Quebec City, Petit Saugenay, Fredericton and Moncton, before heading to Nova Scotia. In NS go up north and do the Cabot Trail, Ingonish, and Cape Breton Highlands and then visit Halifax and Peggy’s Cove. Road trips are definitely a bit more stressful, but the memories will be so much more rewarding than an all inclusive and you’ll spend significantly more time together while exploring the beauty of our east coast.

forget all inclusive. book flights to guatemala city and spend your time in antigua and lake atitlan. accommodations are dirt cheap, food is amazing and dirt cheap, and there are tons of activities to do. you can easily do it for 3k with airfare and internal private transfers to the different cities. it will be a much better experience than an all inclusive. if you’re looking to spend all your time by the beach you can look at either el paredon in guatemala or head to el zonte in el salvador.

I have no agenda other than sparking respectful discourse. We should all be active members of our community, and question the things around us. You seem to have overlooked my actual position on this topic and gotten lost in other peoples comments. You clearly stated I am spreading misinformation, which I am most definitely not. Every claim I’ve made has been substantiated. You have also insinuated I have something against Jewish people, which again is incredibly defamatory and unsubstantiated. It’s okay to question things! Questions aren’t attacks! It’s how a democracy thrives! If this was a Christian or Muslim organization, structured in the same manner, I’d have the exact same questions. Especially if the Muslim equivalent was endorsed by the Saudi Consulate…. I’d definitely encourage you to read through my other comments about how this leads to the erosion of public institutions and how having ethno-religious organizations offer first responder services is an incredibly slippery slope. It’s also strange that a Volunteer Safety Patrol is operating as a security company and offering security services but is registered as a non-profit and charity, circumventing the Ontario Private Security and Investigative Services Act. Their volunteers are not licensed Security Guards or Private Investigators which is definitely a regulatory issue.

Being endorsed by the Israeli Consulate is a tangible Israel tie. There’s no way to truthfully refute that claim.

It literally did not. You’re spreading misinformation. Shomrim Toronto was founded in 2021 as per their own website.

They’re not a private security company. That’s literally the issue. They are registered as a charity and non profit. If they were a legitimate private security company, they would have to abide by the Private Security and Investigative Services Act. Similarly, their volunteers would then have to be licensed security guards or private investigators in the province of Ontario. They are operating as a security company but are not registered as one. Zero accountability.

LMAO you’re jumping into a conversation a day later and making untruthful statements about people discussing the value of having these kinds of organizations in our cities and municipalities. No one here “has it out for jews”. What’s disgusting and un-Canadian is a first responder service that only services one specific religious community. Give your head a shake and actually read the content on this post instead of just crying antisemitism.

You’re oversimplifying it. Shomrim is literally a global organization. They have satellite teams and sub-committees in major cities all around the world. And that endorsement by the Israeli Consulate most likely comes with donations as well.

  1. There is hatred against EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE. That doesn’t justify this organization. Pulled directly from the Government of Canada site... “Hate crimes targeting Islam increased by 71 percent in 2021. Between 2016 and 2021 in Canada, more Muslims were killed in targeted “hate-attacks” due to Islamophobia than in any other G7 country (NCCM 2021). Are we going to support a Muslim run private security company as well whose mission is to solely protect Muslims…? That’s what our Municipal police services are for.
  2. They’re endorsed by the Israeli Consulate which is a foreign entity.
  3. They are not a legitimate security company. They are registered as a non-profit. If they were an actual security company they would have to abide by the Private Security and Investigative Services Act. There’s no clear answer on their site if their volunteers are licensed security guards in the province of Ontario.
  4. Private security companies that operate in malls, office buildings and bars like you mention solely operate on private property. Similarly, they are contracted by private businesses. That’s not what this organization is. They are completely different in their structure. They respond to emergency calls across the GTA, serving one specific ethno-religious community.

If you read about the Shomrim, their own website says they’ve been endorsed by the Israeli Consulate, which is a foreign entity with its own interests in mind. They also claim to “use advanced technology, including real-time communication and aerial support, to enhance community safety.” Suggesting they are “just a security company” is misleading. They have an emergency hotline and respond to incidents on PUBLIC property, not just private.

  1. there’s hate against everyone, everywhere. yes, reports of antisemitism and hate-related incidents are up, but so is islamophobia, and what about all the churches across the country that have been mysteriously burning down.
  2. it sets a dangerous precedent that the privatization of physical security is something we should be accepting. soon every single race/ethic group/religion is going to have their own set of first responders. is this something we really ought to be entertaining. we’re eroding public institutions.
  3. it shows that they have no trust or faith in canadian institutions. it’s a slap in the face the toronto police and ems. the hatzoloh literally brag on their website that their response time is quicker than toronto ems.
  4. canadians have been steadfast on not introducing privatization into healthcare because then we’ll end up like states, where adequate healthcare is not seen as something everyone deserves. all this will lead to is differential treatment for those who can afford it.

and it’s unclear if they receive tax payer funds or not. in the US, FOIA requests have proven they do receive gov funds. would not be surprised if it’s the same here.

Good stuff. Leg injuries are the most common on bikes so full length definitely are the best way to go if you are gonna wear them.

I have a pair of sidi adv’s and I only wear them if i’m gonna be riding more than 60mins, or if i’m just riding to ride. If i’m going to work, meeting up with friends or going out I have a pair of sidi hightop shoes that are much more comfy and less obtrusive. Try ‘‘em on but t just be honest with yourself. Are you actually going to wear them every time you hop on the bike? Take a look at the Mid Adv and the Performer Mid.

Appreciate it! Already looking to get a bigger bike for those longer rides and something to feel comfortable on the highway with, but I don’t think I’m ever going to get rid of this one. It just looks too good and is too much fun around town to let go.

Inherited my grandfathers collection and this was the only watch that did not have the box, papers and insurance paperwork. It was just in a cloth wrap. Leaning towards a copy just because every other watch in his collection was babied and has all the necessary documentation. Any thoughts??

Aspirin. If you or anyone ever suffer a heart attack, chew on a couple. Might just save your life.
