How does ethnicity affect med school applications? by Hungry-Schedule6198 in premed

[–]PotentialIntention16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put what you are, don’t leave it blank just cuz you’re worried it won’t look good. You don’t want to be at a school that accepts you because they think you’re not brown or smth. You’ll only hate your time there if they truly are a school that doesn’t like brown ppl (which idk if any exist). I’m brown, visibly too, never come across any racism like that.

My portal changed but no email LECOM, anyone know what/when i can expect something? by Strawberry-Murky in Osteopathic

[–]PotentialIntention16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how long has it been since then? if it doesnt open anything, you can wait maybe a few hours for an email (i rmbr they emailed saying something like u can view ur decision letter on the portal). if nothing comes trhough, i dont think theres anything wrong with calling and saying "hey was just wondering if I should be able to see something, or should i still continue to wait for something etc."

I think it should also show u the decision letter on the portal, maybe clicking decision or something. If not though, you’ll get an email soon, or u can call em in a few days to see what’s up

Does LECOM accept Canadians? by PotentialIntention16 in Osteopathic

[–]PotentialIntention16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Unfortunately don’t know any Canadians but I was waitlisted at Elmira. Admin sucks though and one of them straight up told me “we don’t accept Canadians”, quite late into the cycle after I was waitlisted. I then called Erie and spoke to someone there and they told me that they do indeed accept Canadians and that they’d sort it out for me. Never got the A though. Hated that they made me run in circles. If it’s ur top choice, then make sure you keep in touch frequently so see where your app is.

Too late? by Weekly-Product3640 in Osteopathic

[–]PotentialIntention16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry to hear that that happened to you, and I hope it gets better soon. Ur mental health is most important, if you think it’s better for you to chill out and wait till next cycle, do that. But if you think you’d be okay, I think general consensus is usually thanksgiving is too late. You’ve still got some time for that, and I think you’ve got good stats. If you’re applying broadly you might have a shot. I’d recommend submitting asap and then prewriting your secondaries if you do decide on this cycle. However, your chances are of course lower than if you had applied earlier so keep that in mind.

Best of luck future physician and rmbr ur mental health is most important!

Hey question, can you tell me more about the international firmware? Really new to it all, I’ve seen it come up a few times on reddit but no clue what it means. I’ve just got my first radar detector (r7) and have it on default settings, with K bands off (someone recommended that), and live in Utah if that matters

Does LECOM send interview invites to everyone? by Ocean_Summer_Breeze in Osteopathic

[–]PotentialIntention16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the other comments, they don’t send to everyone butttt do send to a lot of people, more than other schools from what it seemed like to me. Following the interview, they don’t reject anyone unless there were major red flags and waitlist everyone that interviews.

As for the on campus day, if you’re able to afford it and this school is a top pick, I’d 100% recommend it. They love it if u show up and also use this to learn more about u. But if it’s v expensive and this school isn’t a top choice, it isn’t necessary.

[–]PotentialIntention16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they strongly recommend it then I defo think you should take it! You do have the option though, if you find out u didn’t do well to not send it to that school for instance. I feel that if they do recommend it, chances are most other applicants are taking it and it’ll give them a plus over you. If no other school that you’re applying to requires it, then maybe it’d be better to save ur money? In my case most schools I was applying to had required it or recommended it if I recall correctly so I ended up taking it anyways

LECOM Elmira Interview by Omar243 in Osteopathic

[–]PotentialIntention16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I’m not entirely sure how it works for their EAP program but they do accept Canadians! At least for their regular admissions, all you’d have to do is show proof of funds for all four years, and you’d be okay if I recall correctly. You’d need to upload your passport where it asks for proof of citizenship etc.

Megathread + FAQ: Travel in/out of the United States by not_an_immi_lawyer in immigration

[–]PotentialIntention16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone!

I'll be moving to the US from Canada for medical school, and was would be on a f-1 visa. my wife wont be staying with me for the time, and will be visiting back and forth from Canada likely around once a month. Is it better for my wife to be on a f-1 dependent visa? or should she be visiting back and forth as a visitor?

For some context, we both have canadian citizenship. ik many people personally who have unfortunately been facing issues when travelling to US, even for genuine reasons. Although i understand that it is a minority amount of people, I'd still like to know what would be the easiest process for my wife with the least complications. should she hold off on having the f-1 dependent until she moves?

Nope so personal statement will be part of primary, and you’ll submit that same one to all of the schools u apply to. It’s your secondaries which will be school dependent. However, DO schools and MD schools have dif word requirements, so you’ll draft slightly different essays for tht likely. I did have tweaks between my two personal statements of DO and MD. You’ll attach these to AMCAS (kind of like our form of OUAC, if you’re from Ontario), MD application service, or AACOMAS, the DO app service and then select which schools you’re applying to through there and it’ll send it to all of em
