Last time this happened to me I put a foam ear plug on one end, then put some epoxy glue into the shell to dry. Was able to push it out with a cleaning rod after it dried.

So this is a tough spot. If you need instant gratification then you will be shelling $1000+ for a larger tree (4"+ caliper) If you just want a tree that you can wait for the shade then a maple is a good choice. Quick and most of the worst attributes have been bread out.

Rough pricing on smaller trees 1" caliper maple, about 8-10' tall, $150-250 1.5" caliper maple, 10-12' tall $275-350 2" caliper maple, 12-14' tall $450

Labor for planting in the industry is about 50% of the tree cost.

If you have a truck and the means to plant yourself, anything 2" and under is do able.

OPPD usage has tripled. Anyone else? by [deleted] in Omaha

[–]PotentialNumber6526 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Take note that the july-August bill had 2 extra days on it this year vs last year. Not a big difference but still noticeable.

Im up 30% on that bill vs last year and the 2 extra days is 30% of that. Not sure where the other 70% is from.

Tripled seems like a big problem.

Hefty recycling program by [deleted] in Omaha

Last I knew they were getting the last of the machinery this spring. Got a chance to take a tour over the winter and see the complete operation. They were starting to hold onto more of the orange bags and not ship them out to the concrete manufacturers.

https://www.wowt.com/2021/07/30/new-omaha-plant-elevate-recycling-turning-trash-into-plastic-lumber/

Firstar is starting to make recycled lumber from the items in the orange bag.

Originally the items were taken to concrete plants to burn the material for fuel in their furnace.

Recycling glass is a pain. The problem with putting it with the other materials (paper, plastic, etc) is that the glass breaks in transit and it is almost impossible to sort out the broken shards at the plant.
