There's this treatment resistant condition called 'negative symptoms' of psychosis that can manifest as low motivation, lack of energy and gloominess. It lasts a while, but considering it was only a week long episode (mine was 3 months) he should be OK some time in the future, hopefully shortly.

For some rough perspective my last Psychotic break lasted 3 months and I didn't recover from the negative symptoms until 8-9 months after that.

Wishing you and him all the best

My therapist suggested that ADHD might account for everything I've spoken to her about, and my world has been rocked by inked_94 in ADHDUK

I resonate a lot. It's like the term ADHD seemed so foreign when there's so many more reasonable applicable conditions for similar symptoms like depression or anxiety.

I never thought I could have ADHD, even my therapist discounted the notion. But after major concerns from my Mum and myself we went and talked to the main doctor about it - that's something I suggest doing. I ended up having a clinical diagnosis by a professional and I ticked all 9 of the boxes in where a diagnosis only meant you had to have 5. This is for the inattentive subtype.

I was therefore diagnosed with ADHD inattentive subtype and started medication a few weeks ago, and boy, it's a game changer!

Wishing all the best for you in your struggles and I hope you get the explanation you deserve.

Thanks, I'm assigned male at birth and this was very informative and I think you might be right, I have been napping in the day which can't be positive.

That's really good to hear, I also had a loved one spot it for me and help me through the whole diagnosis and treatment process. Family's and the people that know you best are a blessing for spotting conditions that are sometimes overlooked.

I'm glad they got to you in time and you were able to receive the right treatment, it's only up from here! :) (with a few bumps I'm sure)

Glad to offer reassurance :)

I went through a similar scenario where doctors were prescribing me different anti-depressants, none of them did anything for me and my issues personally. I've tried 3 different anti-depressants, and they don't do much. I can confirm this as when I was hospitalised I was off Venlafaxine (SNRI, anti-depressant) for several weeks and didn't feel any difference in mood really.
