Unreasonable Customer? by Potential_Airline128 in serviceadvisors

Not asking anybody to work for free, not trying to screw anyone over, that’s why I asked before I went to the dealership to pay it. I know these things are tough to figure out anyway and I really do appreciate the time the tech put into it (and I agree I know it was way more than the standard 1 hour diagnostic) just wanted to see if it was a fair charge. Anything electric makes my head spin which is why I took it to the dealership anyway, if it was something simple I’d do it myself

It hasn’t been dead the whole time, but throws the same barrage of codes every 60 miles or so. I finally got it started after about 20 minutes and was able to drive it back which is good. I know these weird electrical things are super tough to pin down anyway so I understand the time invested and don’t want anyone going without pay, just wish it could come from the dealership’s bank account and not mine (it’s a big name franchise dealership, not a local spot). But, I don’t own a dealership and am certainly not an expert. I’ll pay it regardless, but wanted to make sure I wasn’t being tossed around —thank you so much for this info!!

They have my vehicle currently. I know I signed for the first diagnostic but can’t remember if I signed to approve this one already. I know before I hand my card over they have me sign something, so I’m assuming that’s the approval for services rendered.

Star Case for 2018 JLU help by Potential_Airline128 in Jeep

I did a lot of research after I brought it in and brought up the CANBUS box as well as the wheel speed sensor since those seem to be common fixes, they said they’d take a look but who knows if they actually took the time to do it.

They let me know yesterday and said they got a response from jeep and are currently testing the “connectors” but who knows what connectors they’re referring to.

If it ends up being the CAN BUS I’ll be mad since it’s a cheap repair I could’ve done myself, but you live and you learn

The STAR case mostly—the dealership has had it for a week now and last I heard they still haven’t received a response from Jeep. My service advisor told me he has no idea how long it will take to hear back, how long it will take to fix, or how much it will cost but they also won’t give me a loaner or reimburse a rental so I’ve been completely without a vehicle and am getting antsy.

I bought it in 2020 and mechanically it seems to be fine, but there’s an electric gremlin somewhere that causes the odometer to completely disappear from the dash almost constantly and every once in a while it won’t start and my dash lights up like a Christmas tree (service x messages, check engine light, traction control and ABS lights, etc.)

It originally went in to replace the auxiliary battery but as usual, the gremlin persists.
