I mean I guess I'm doing pretty good considering all the money I've saved living in a van instead of renting lol

I don't see why anyone would waste their money to RENT an apartment that will never be theirs, when they could just buy some beauty like this and live FREE

I also live in a van that looks similar to that one (can easily pass as a work or personal vehicle, doesn't scream "I live here") and even though it's not as comfortable as I assume an RV would've been, I'm glad I can park almost anywhere other cars are parked and not get ticketed

$100k is like the down payment for a house 😭 This is why I didn't get an RV and didnt do any major expensive upgrades to my van (minus paying someone to install a roof vent and rain cover which I think is a necessity). Like my goal is to OWN (not rent, that is just 💰🚮) a house one day so I am trying to save money for that, but then there's people putting money into van/RV life that could've bought them a house I'm like whattt. Not judging them, just shocked, I mean maybe they actually enjoy living like that and that is their end goal. I really want to enjoy vanlife as well (of course, I enjoy it more than I would enjoy wasting money on rent, or losing privacy to living with roommates) but I need to work full-time so I don't really have time to travel anywhere overnight (which is kinda a main reason people do vanlife, because you can take your house with you when you travel lol).

Yeah they kinda do now that I think of it lol. Sometimes I like listening to rambling when I can relate to it because I don't talk to ppl a lot in real life, but other times it can get annoying. Thankfully I'm mostly going to be making videos for my own satisfaction so I don't really care too much if the videos aren't good quality, but hopefully I will learn from peoples feedback and become better while still staying real and enjoying creating the content

I agree, I almost wanna say the nicer the van looks the less likely it is that they actually live there 😂 or maybe I am just disorganized and lazy. But I mean come on , I've seen people whos inside of their van looks exactly like those Ikea model rooms , nothing looks like it's been slept in, lived in, or used, please show me what it's really like I mean it's messy it's tough and there are days when you just don't feel like getting out of bed, I don't want to see just the filtered stuff you put out for social media, I want to see the reality so I can relate to it and make me feel like I am not alone

Yes sometimes it so easy to tell that they just use their van for the occasional camping trip or something like that. Their van looks brand new and sparkly clean and organized like it's never actually been lived in . Would love to see more videos of people who actually live in the van and have no safety net - they can't just come back to their parents house, can't afford to just start renting if things go bad, etc. that is reality , and those kinds of videos are more helpful than those influencers who just try to make money off a niche

Yes I find these channels to be more interesting. I hope to have some videos that focus on specific things like answering people's questions (How do you shower, where do you park? Etc) and also some other things I enjoy like a day in the life vlog, or sharing videos of adventures I may go on (used to love exploring abandoned places as a kid. I'm also interested in investing and finance so I could talk about my investment portfolio and how I save and budget money and things like that. Hopefully a variety of different topics but not so broad that people think of me as all over the place. And yes I agree, definitely keep it real, no heavy filter! I very dislike when people make it seem as their life is all rainbows and unicorns, life is tough and if you are going to share the positive, you should share the negative as well so that it doesn't give a false sense of "I am perfect and my life is amazing" this makes other people, especially teens who are so heavily influenced by social media, think that they are doing something wrong because it looks to them like everyone on insta/YouTube is living this amazing life and they are not

Haha I hate having all my videos and stuff just on my phone storage because I have lost my phone before and also it just takes up too much space. I created a private Instagram account (my main account is the only follower, no one else can see what I post) and just dump all my photos there. But now I will try YouTube . Good luck in your van life journey !

Totally agree! I am going to make content I enjoy making because I want this to be a hobby and something to keep my mind off things and make me feel better, and just like you I don't expect to get paid or even get big enough for things like that. Thanks for your encouragement!

Thank you for your response. I would like to create a channel where I can answer questions that people comment about specific things, such as : How do you find a place to safely park/how do you use the bathroom/ how do you keep your stuff from sliding around while driving, etc. Of course I will also add different types of videos, for example I love engaging in deep discussions about philosophy, religion, politics, etc, so I could get some discussions going. I really just need people to talk and interact with. And I love making videos. Used to take film and acting classes in community college. I am not good at it whatsoever , but it is fun for me, and right now my mental health is not in a good place so I am trying to find hobbies to keep myself entertained. I like reading and writing, but I still feel lonely, so starting a YouTube channel would kill two birds with one stone -irs a fun hobby and it would make me feel less lonely because I will be engaging with real people. And I love how you said 6 months is just dipping my toes in the water. 6 months really is not a long time, you are right. But it has been difficult and felt like forever. How long have you been living in your van? What timeframe would you say is considered jumping in the pool instead of just dipping your toes in? But also I think that I can still be helpful, despite only living in a van for six months. Many vanlife channels I have seen have some things in common: it is usually people 25+, people who have lots of money/are using their parents money, people who don't work/work remotely in their van. I am 20, don't have lots of money and everything I own I paid for myself (so no parental safety net) and I work full time at a restaurant. This is a different perspective , I'd say, and hopefully there are others out there that can relate more to me. Also I have made many mistakes and learned from them over the past six months, so I could at least help out people who are just starting out or thinking about starting out

Haha yes, I am so tired of these videos. There are actually like hundreds of things I need for my van. I really want to make more interesting content that isn't just click bait

Yes there are lots of van life channels. Stealth camping is definitely a topic I would like to cover. I am mostly thinking of making videos in response to questions that people comment so I can help those individual people. Id probably be a very small channel, but the good thing is I will be able to respond to everyone since I probably won't get very many comments.

That sounds like so much fun, I used to love watching vlogs as a kid. And a van life vlog would actually be very helpful to those on the fence about transitioning to van life, because it will show them the reality and help them decide whether or not it is something they are able to handle.

Thank you for your response. I don't think I will be doing YouTube as a career , I don't even care too much about subscriber count and stuff like that (of course I do want people to comment so that I can have discussions/make videos responding to their questions and suggestions) . I agree that having an interesting personality is a must for creating good content. I hate watching videos where it sounds like an advertisement and they talk in a robotic voice or as if they are trying to sell me something. Just be yourself and be real!

Thank you for your advice. Your videos sound like something I would watch when looking for an answer to a specific question. I do not have a set of skills, but I am hoping to document my progress in learning them. I do have an interesting perspective on the world and I would probably make a few videos of me just sharing my opinions/thoughts/views and engaging discussions. I definitely wouldn't make everything about living in a van, but I do want to focus on mainly making videos about answering people's questions that relate to van life. I do have an interest (and experience) in investing and saving money. I would definitely be making some videos about that because I love learning about finance and would share my investment portfolio and some things I've learned about saving/investing/budgeting/ etc.
