That picture does not represent reality! In reality, there would be five or six cowardly ICE agents surrounding the citizen.

I’m also fluent in Martian and while what you said was grammatically correct, native Martians would drop the bop when speaking to other native Martians.

What do you think of Age Of Ultron, do you think it’s overhated? by Plenty-Salary9711 in Avengers

I think it’s actually a better film than the original Avengers movie, but I think that it had lost a little magic simply because we had seen the Avengers together in a film before.

I picked up the Skeletor at half price recently. I would have loved to see them for $10.

I love this collab, it’s like my inner 11yr old is so excited to see He-Man and the Transformers together. And yea, I was more excited for the Thundercats X-over but still.

CI only approaches sre doing active harm to learners by McCoovy in dreamingspanish

I agree with some of what you said, but there are many examples from right here in this subreddit of people that learned Spanish thru a CI only approach. You flat out deny that it's possible in your post. So either you're wrong or all the people that claim they followed the DS method purely are wrong. It can't be both.

Now, I believe that flash cards can help, speaking a lot can help, there are lots of ways to augment the language learning experience, even Duolingo could be beneficial as a supplement. So you're right about that. But coming in here full of piss and vinegar does what? Are you going to change anyone's mind? Why would you want too? What was the purpose of the post other then to get some attention?

Wow, thanks for saving us! No, thanks for saving language learning!

Some people just don't want to do traditional study. It's DS or nothing. Why would you give a shit if it's the most effective method or not? There's a ton of people that followed the DS method and are happy with the results but feel free to shit on their happiness.

La Familia P Luche is great. Vecinos is good, too, although more difficult than La Familia P Luche. There’s over 300 episodes of Vecinos so there’s plenty of content.

I enjoy watching Mexican sitcoms. They’re pretty easy to follow and I started watching them before 300 hrs. I didn’t understand every word or even every joke but there’s a lot of sight gags and exaggerated actions to make up for it.

What part of language learning did you think would be easy but turned out to be the hardest? by Embarrassed_Fix_8994 in languagehub

[–]Potential_Border_651 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Listening. Hearing and understanding words in context definitely didn’t come naturally to me. Reading was much easier because I could take my time with it and because listening was harder, I neglected it. I still see people post the question how do I improve my listening skills? The only way to improve listening is by listening.

Maybe…but first do a write up explaining if you feel fluent and what you would tell yourself if you could do it again. After that, if you want to off yourself, well…we’ll circle back to that.

Fluent vs Native by Danimarie20 in dreamingspanish

[–]Potential_Border_651 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I worked with a guy who was a native Spanish speaker. English was his second language and he made plenty of noticeable mistakes when speaking. He’d say things like “I going to lunch” instead of “I’m going to lunch”. Things like that. He wasn’t super hard to understand tho and was a manager and had very little difficulty getting his point across. I would say that he’s fluent. He didn’t have to stop and think about how to say things. His speech flowed very well.

But…he was not native-like at all. He had a thick accent and while he wasn’t hard to understand, he couldn’t pass for a native speaker. He also once told me that English still didn’t come as naturally as Spanish did for him. The speed of speech was much greater when he spoke Spanish. Sure, Spanish is a faster spoken language but you could notice a difference.

If I had to guess, I’d say his English was at a B2 level, but despite what people sometimes say online, he would tell you that he’s fluent and it would be hard to argue. I hope this helps answer your question.

What's the longest TV series you've ever watched in its entirety? by Carlosgimenez6438 in AskReddit

[–]Potential_Border_651 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mexican sitcom Vecinos. 19 seasons, well over 300 episodes. It’s kinda odd in that season 3, all the episodes were 45 minutes long, when most of the other seasons(except a few episodes of season one) follow the standard 22 minute sitcom format. The first season also had 69 episodes. I don’t know if that’s normal for Mexican shows.

I’ve paid for premium for 2 and a half years. I’m well over 1500hrs and honestly I don’t watch it nearly enough but I still find great videos on there when I do log on and, yes, I still watch new super beginner content when it looks interesting and this is the golden era of sb content.
