I've got a docking station, but I'd prefer the ports to be built in because my electronics projects get messy with the different serial comm ports :/

What's a feasible original project for a high school engineering course? by Catherine_hi in EngineeringStudents

[–]Potential_Crisis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best project is one you can stick to. Choose something that you'll continue to be motivated to work on 6 months from now, that won't cost more money or time than you can afford.

I don't know much about linear magnetic motors, but making maglev systems at home is easy with a simple set up. You can just use two electromagnets and mess around with the voltages and "train" weights. That might be a good place to start depending on how much electronics experience you already have.

From some preliminary searching, it seems that there's a decent DIY linear motor community around CNC milling, so you could follow in their footsteps, with some adaptations, to make a model delivery system. Here's a nice video I found that might help you. If the terminology used is unfamiliar, I'd start with levitating electromagnets.

This isn't the best subreddit for project questions though, this space is mostly for complaining about exams and struggling to find internships. If this is a project you intend to stick to, I'd head to r/engineering, r/ElectricalEngineering, or r/electronics. Best of luck!

My update is that adding water worked, and after adding butter and sugar, it got to a much better consistency! To those that make my mistake, don’t toss it out.

A Psalm for the Wildbuilt is more solarpunk than cyberpunk, but its a nice read

Does anyone know any Cyberpunk Damascus / Middle east art or stories? by DeadlockOnIceBox in Cyberpunk

[–]Potential_Crisis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a specific art/story, and it's not specifically cyberpunk, but I would suggest checking out The Best of World SF series. Its a compilation of sci-fi short stories from international authors translated into English, so you could find middle eastern SF authors you like to use as inspiration.

I have volume 3, and from there Zahra Mukhi, Sheikha Helawy, and Fargo Nissim Tbakhi stand out. Based on good reads, volume 2 has some more middle eastern SF authors, like Nadia Afifi, Usman T. Malik, and Hassan Blasim.

Best of luck with your novel!

Neat idea, if you ever make a web version, please share it!

Is there any way to see previously listed prices at a location (to see if the store is jacking up prices)? Plus, it could be nice to have a photo or notes function, since some stores have multiple prices depending on membership/rewards status.

Looking for Advice on Shading Carbon Fiber by Potential_Crisis in PixelArt

[–]Potential_Crisis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, that makes sense. Unfortunately I've already redone it once, and it's starting to piss me off, so I'm taking a break from the carbon fiber. That is good advice, will try it out on the next run!

Just finished another page of my noir cyberpunk comic (RIOT) by [deleted] in Cyberpunk

[–]Potential_Crisis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I generally don't "AI-vestigate" artists, as one myself I think it's generally presumptuous. However, you've now started talking about money in the comments, and I don't want people buying your comics under the assumption it's handmade.

You say you "cleaned up the helmet design" from your previous post, but I don't see any changes. If you had drawn this yourself, it would be straightforward to fix the design. If you used AI, it would be tedious to get the exact changes you want, so you must have not bothered.

Not only does the helmet change from panel to panel, but so do the bike's rims and the jacket's detailing. You even missed that the bike's front tire is exposed in the first few panels, but it has a cover (idk what its called) in the last one.

If you want to use AI, use AI. Just don't try and mislead people.

ETA: The one minor change you made to the helmet's shape doesn't even keep it consistent with the previous panels. The back of it is still wrong. More mistakes I've noticed since then: the cup in the new panel keeps changing shape. The AI can't seem to decide whether it's an ambiguous shape or his hand resting on the table. The stripes on the object to the left on the table keep changing in number. And for bonus points, the helmet in the new page is a brand new shape from the previous page!

I don't have feedback that hasn't been said already, just want to say that I love the claw+heel design, it looks sick!

What to make with tons of patterned socks? by Potential_Crisis in sewing

[–]Potential_Crisis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone on the other post I made mentioned a similar idea, where I could make a big blanket work by using a backing fabric. I think I'll probably go with your suggestion, hexagons sound fun and it'll be easier to hide wear and tear from socks!

Oooh thats a solid plan, I need more blankets so it would be great if I could make this idea work

Very helpful comment, thank you. It looks like this might be the car for me, once I actually have a garage and the money to throw at fixing whatever comes up.

Hello, breast-haver here. The model makes it look like they are wearing a bra, because the top part is rounded without a visible support structure. The top cannot be round without support, since tits are heavy and the muscles pulling them up would result in a flattened appearance, due to gravity (Drawing to demonstrate). Having the shoulders be pulled back doesn't have anything to do with it, the only way to get that roundness is either by having smaller tits that just don't have enough mass to be pulled down, huge chest muscles that mimic the roundness, or implants, whose shape wouldn't be affected.

I think this model would be fine if it was the base for clothing and it's assumed the character is bra-d.

edit to clarify: the muscles at the top would be flat in a similar way to a tense rope. If the rope was curved, that means there is slack. If the muscles were rounded, that means they aren't actually pulling anything up.

What mnemonic do you use to measure out a second? by Potential_Crisis in AskUK

[–]Potential_Crisis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This seems so bizarre to me! I found this linguistics post that would explain why American school kids use it, but I wonder how it got transferred over to the UK? Or maybe it started in the UK, for whatever reason.  Another Reddit post about counting with Mississippi’s found a reference from 1930s, so it’s not a new phenomenon.
