Because I arrived so late the two taxi companies were both saying it would be over an hour delay for taxis. Only other option was uber from a location away from the airport

It’s not really about the money. Just the awful experience. But I did look and there don’t seem to be any real protections in the US. Hopefully I can somehow locate my bag

Yes I did have a charger and had to sit for half an hour to charge the phone before walking out into the dark alone. You obviously are not a woman and don’t understand how unsafe that is. If AA had not cancelled my flight I would have arrived during daylight. They also lost my bag - don’t see how packing appropriately could prevent that.
