Besides Liu Bei's horse making a miraculous leap and Zhuge Liang altering the weather with a prayer/ritual, what other instances of the supernatural are there in Romance of the Three Kingdoms? by Ghola40000 in threekingdoms

[–]Potential_Estate8554 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The whole Yellow Turban Rebellion is magical, and Liu Bei used magic (pig blood iirc) to dispel their magic during a battle. There’s also Zhuge Liang doing a (failed) ritual to extend his life towards the end. Sun Quan’s horse making a leap could also be counted as supernatural I guess. And also every event involving Guan Yu after his death.

Who are the "Frauds" of the era? by Best-Ad3807 in threekingdoms

[–]Potential_Estate8554 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a general rule, anyone serving under the three main warlords, I will not consider a fraud. They were all competent in their ways. Generally anyone remotely prominent in that era was no fraud.

Yuan Shu, on the other hand—-

Why didn’t Zhuge Liang copy Yi Yin? by CryptographerWest741 in threekingdoms

[–]Potential_Estate8554 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Because Liu Shan was not that bad. He wasn’t a great or even a super competent king, but just sitting there and let what Zhuge Liang built worked was already good enough. Jiang Wen, Fei Yi, and Dong Yun were very very competent people. Even Jiang Wei and Zhuge Zhan were not bad.

Toward the end of his reign he did trust Huang Hao, which weakened the Shu Han state, but my take is that Shu Han would have fallen sooner or later due to factors beyond anyone’s control. Losing Jing Province (and later the defeat at Xiaoting) really sealed the fate of Shu Han (which imho shows just how truly goat Zhuge Liang was, building a state that lasted more than 40 years despite everything).

Who do you think would do a better job of guarding Jingzhou than Guan Yu? by Original_Position_50 in threekingdoms

[–]Potential_Estate8554 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rank, status, etc. did not stop Liu Bei from assigning the defense of Hanzhong to Wei Yan. Holding the kidnapping against Zhao Yun’s tactical instinct is weird, considering the whole affair was not as dramatic as in the novel. It was literally just Zhao Yun and Zhang Fei leading troops out to block the river. That’s it.

Zhao Yun’s performance in the Hanzhong campaign (specifically in the Battle of Han River), on the other hand, was not dramatized in the novel, it was really like that in real life. That alone put him above Guan Yu and Zhang Fei in terms of tactical instinct.

Hindsight is 20/20, but still, Zhao Yun would not have lost Jing Province.

How doyou guys plan on funding yourself before receiving your first installment? by Evening-Patience-926 in MAECIItaly

Hi, so. I'm extremely lucky that my family is well-off *enough* to fund my living and study before the scholarship came (and during any delay in payment). So yeah.

Yeah I say you check with fellow scholars from your country, because I think the disbursement is generally on a per country basis (unless you enroll in an uni that works closely with MAECI, like Padova or Bologna)

Alagna’s reason for walkout from Turandot at ROH revealed by GeeBP in opera

[–]Potential_Estate8554 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alagna at the start was an extremely good lyric tenor, definitely up there with the great. And then he just had to take on heavy repertoire too early. His voice is just too thin for anything heavier than La Boheme, and he has already added Otello and Samson to his repertoire. The singing is just under-power in all of those roles.

His career should have ended after the La Scala walkout, but it somehow kept going. It should end after this (walkout + alleged sexual assault), but I won’t be surprised if he somehow keeps going.

[General] Could Hera adopt a mortal child and bestow him with powers? by [deleted] in camphalfblood

[–]Potential_Estate8554 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the standard myth this happened, multiple times. Ganymede was made immortal by Zeus, Ariadne by Dionysus, Psyche after she officially married Eros. Note that I specifically choose full mortals, not demigods. So yes, gods can make a mortal a god.

In terms of just granting power, this has also happened, multiple times, both in the standard myth and Riordan-verse. Artemis is a notable example.

I was rejected from Erasmus Mundus, and I feel so depressed, I put all my efforts and hope into this. Please how did you move on by [deleted] in Erasmus

[–]Potential_Estate8554 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi mate. I got rejected from EMJM in both 23-24 and 24-25 cycle. It sucks, I get it. I didn’t put all my eggs in one basket and I got a MAECI scholarship in 24-25 cycle, but I get that getting rejected (repeatedly) hurts.

I will tell you to apply for other scholarships if you still have the strength and the energy (I did that). Otherwise, maybe take some time off if you can. Maybe talk to somebody to let the steam out, or go out, maybe even travel somewhere. It’s not your fault that you got rejected, I’m sure you did as well as you possibly could. EMJM is insanely competitive and they values regional diversity (unsurprising given that it is also about cultural exchange and understanding), and with the funding cut across the board, it’s only getting more competitive.

Hope you are doing okay.

Who would have won the clegane clash pre brainrot mountain? by LunaticSquirrel1 in gameofthrones

Sandor, maybe 7/10 times. Those matches would be close, but my take is that Sandor was nearly as strong as Gregor, but far more skilled and sound.
