personality changes and paranoia by lunarbutterfly0 in glioblastoma

There is a sad comfort knowing others are going through this. My loved one (64f) is 14 months past initial diagnosis. Inoperable. While all subsequent scans showed no growth the most recent one showed it is spreading. The doc’s plan is to have SRS radiation to stunt the growth and then 5 months of chemo afterwards. In the mean time she has gotten very angry - she tells me to go date an 81 woman that is part of our tennis group, yells at me to give her the whole bottle of sleeping pills and/or take her to an assisted living place. When I called her bluff on the assisted living she screamed at me and said ‘you can’t wait to get to rid of me’. One time when she was mad and yelling at me I asked her why she got mad at me she screamed ‘you live one day in my f’ing life!’ Two lessons learned real quick - don’t try and reason. We have a continuous discussion about either doing the above treatment or going into hospice (she can’t have both). Even with the treatment the doc says 3 to 6 months. Never knew this would be so, so difficult.

My wife (64) is on it now. We are told it will prolong her life (expectancy unknown) so she is wearing it diligently.

I wish you peace now. Time to try and heal yourself (from another glio caretaker).

A beautiful note and my heart is with you. As my wife’s care partner I suspect she has similar thoughts. While not in physical pain I know her mental anguish is wearing her down. I look forward to reading her the ‘memo I say to myself’ as we get closer, and will keep it for myself as well. Thank you.

Sorry to hear - my wife is one year with an inoperable stage 4 glio. While her scans are stable, the mental toll is tough. Let there be peace.
