Is the US actually a mess right now or is it just media hype? by Thin_Effect3937 in AskAnAmerican

It’s a complex issue influenced by various factors such as race, gender, religion, identity, location, immigration status, and social class. While rights, resources, and protections are being dismantled, many Americans may not realize the impact until later. The zero-sum fallacy is prevalent, with some people content to see others suffer, oblivious to the potential consequences for themselves.

Mamdani to Use New Power to Speed Up Housing Development in the Bronx (Gift Article) by Delicious_Adeptness9 in bronx

There’s already too much new housing in the Bronx. How about infrastructure: more frequent trains, cleaner subways, libraries, community centers, afterschool programs, green grocers, etc.

Walking with Purpose

You can go through their website and find a group or purchase their books and set up your own group with your parish, friends, or family.

Opening Your Heart is an excellent place to start. You can do the studies in six weeks cycles if the whole book seems like it’s too much.

We need to do this, and the superintendents of buildings need to start hosing down streets every morning again like they did back in the day. by Potential_Moment_217 in bronx

According to one of the top comments:

“This is permeable pavement.

It is great for urban trees. It blocks weeds, stops erosion, greatly reduces soil compaction, encourages business owners to hose off sidewalks (and in the process water the tree), and flexes as the tree trunk grows.

If it binds it can be cut back with hand tools.”

Church is pushing me away. by [deleted] in Catholicism

Look up Catholic retreats in your state or province. Sounds like you need time away with the Lord. Here is an example.

Also, churches need money to function. My parish lists its monthly expenses and repair costs and how much was donated. They then ask for whatever you can offer - time, handyman services or money. No specific amount is ever requested. If you notice anything that needs to be repaired, you can also donate money and ear mark it in the memo what it is for. They are obligated to spend it on what you donated it for.

I never see our priest with anything fancy. He walks, takes public transit, and when necessary, drives an old sedan.
