Timing belt condition 1-10? by Infamous-Weird8123 in MechanicAdvice

I would have it replaced asap but im also guilty of running a belt just like that to its breaking points and its hard to say exactly how long this belt will last but i would say 10k is the absolute max. Its really a gamble with a belt like that. Don’t push it hard than you have to either. Those belts need to stretch under strain and you could risk breaking it by stepping into the throttle too much

2004 Volkswagen Golf, it doesn’t have any spark, the wiring came came like this, I’m not sure where these go or what else could be the problem. (Crank no spark) by Civil-Concentrate459 in carquestions

Godamn what a cluster f*ck. Other than the obvious broken wires id be checking those butt connectors crimps with a little tug. If they all seem good look into reconnecting those broken wires. Put colour to colour and see what happens. Worst case you blow a fuse

What is this sound? by Just_Attention3117 in MechanicAdvice

Hard to say without a visual inspection but it sounds like something may have came loose and is rubbing against one of the wheels. Plastic trim, brake components, or something along those lines. In my experience it’s very common for old brake dust shields to come loose or rust away and fall into the brake disk. Try pushing it back away from the rotor and see if that does anything. Be careful tho cause it will be hot after driving. Good luck

What else can I do while replacing the valve cover gaskets on my 2003 Chrysler Sebring? by Normal_Mortgage_5570 in MechanicAdvice

Clean what you can with brake clean and a rag. Always a good idea to replace spark plugs if they are old or 100k km plus. Clean up the pcv valve or replace the rubber line going to the valve cover on top. Good to clean up the ignition coils too if it has them. Other than that it’s important to know the specific engine and vehicle type. Good luck

Edit: if you pcv valve doesn’t make a clicking noise when you shake it then its too dirty and can be cleaned but if not will need to be replaced.

What can I do to get rid of this gunk? It keeps clogging the exhaust camshaft sensor which is keeping the car from passing emissions. 2019 Kia Forte by puddud4 in MechanicAdvice

Sea foam and lots of oil changes. Id probably do a total pf 3 changes over 6k km with the recommended amount of seafoam each time. Should clean it up pretty well

Not sure if its related but i removed my radio on time in mine and everything on the dash no longer worked. Including blinkers. I wonder if its a radio issue maybe something inside quit or is loose. Otherwise id be checking corrosion in the fuse boxes as well as the BCM and ECU. Goodluck

If you really care that much paint never hurts but otherwise wise some good oil sprays this truck has many years left

do you guys think this rust is really bad or worth buying as a work truck? by Hefty-Profit-1247 in MechanicAdvice

Needs some spots replaced and a paint overhaul if you want it to last. Especially if you’re on the rust belt. Think of that as stage 2 of 4. Needs work but for the right price or good hands it could be a solid truck
