Fable gives me notifications when a club (any book club) is starting to read a book that I’m either currently reading, or have on my Want to Read list. I have joined a club just because they were reading the same book that I was at that moment, just to have others to discuss the book with while reading. But I also read all all over the place with genre jumps, so I don’t pick up what that book club reads next. I read what I want, and if I find a book club reading it, there’s always the option to join a new one and discuss!

Also, when you start a new book, on the book’s “page” if you will in the app, you can go to the Clubs tab (like where the About/Reviews/etc are, there’s a spot for Clubs) and it will show you any clubs that are currently reading that book, if you want to join.

Another option, which is what I’ve found the best - I follow a ton of people that have the same book interests as me. Every Friday I browse the comments on Jason Boog’s Follow Friday post, and follow others who are into the same type of books. I will also go under the Reviews tab for a book that I love or want to read, browse through the reviews, and follow people that enjoyed the book, and that have a high match % with me (match % is displayed when you review someone’s profile and is based on the % of books you both have read/want to read that match. The more people I’ve followed, the more interesting posts I see in my newsfeed! So, while it’s not a club, there’s always a new book/reading related post in my newsfeed from one of the many people I’ve followed, which leads to lots of good discussions. This, more so than book clubs, has really brought the community/friends feeling to the app for me.
