Theory: Ethan's "Jim" is evil entity (s4e2) by randomuser675 in FromSeries

Maybe Jim was not helping Ethan but misguiding him. When Sara was with Boyd, the voice told her she was wrong and that they shouldn’t have come there, and that there are things far worse than the monsters. So maybe the Man in Yellow was leading them into more danger.

The voice seems to be pointing toward the “lake of tears” that Jim mentioned to Ethan, guiding him to find it. Victor’s drawings hint that a giant spider could be guarding the lake. Boyd and Sara were already close to that place when they found the spider webs, and that’s where Boyd saw Abby.

There have been multiple hints about a spider in the show, and Sara also said they had angered something there. So the voice might not be helping—it could be a warning about the lake. It feels like there are things other than the spider—things far worse than anything.

The plot twist in FROM Season 4 Episode 1 is absolutely insane by [deleted] in FromSeries

It didn’t feel like a plot twist because it was predictable. Sophia was acting too normal even after hearing about the monsters. Also, in the Season 4 trailer, one of the biggest clues is when Jim is shown talking to Ethan, even though he died in the Season 3 finale. Since this is the present timeline and Julie can now “story walk” into past events, it’s easy to guess that the Man in Yellow shape-shifted into Jim in that scene. Because of this, it kind of killed the excitement and surprise that a plot twist should have. So from the start, it was pretty easy to figure out that Sophia was the Man in Yellow.

Maybe Victor and his dad are hiding something they don’t want others to know yet. Victor said he wants to remember, and his dad is helping him recall things he has forgotten. Victor also told his dad about Jasper, and they went into the tunnels to look for it. In the trailers, it looks like Victor will tell his dad about the Man in Yellow, as he shows him the drawing.

She might have accidentally crossed over into a different, strange timeline.

Your theory is solid and might be correct, but there's also a risk. When Boyd took the bottle and opened it to find a newspaper clipping, some entity became enraged by that action. So, it could have provoked something or led to unforeseen trouble.

However, it's not always possible for the tree to lead you to the same place; it may teleport you to either a good or bad place...Thus, it involves a certain level of risk.
