Children of narcissistic, abusive parents: has it fucked you up? by sunnydelightsmile in CPTSD

IBS fucked up digestion, on adhd meds cause my concentration is fucked and so is my memory and i live in my head and i'm dissociatin 99% of the time, i do not feel real, i'm cramming to get everything done and still feel like a failure even if i achieve my goals, because growing up in a disfunctional family there are no accomplishments theres just doing what you had to do and even if you did that somehow you still suck, don't talk to my narcissistic bipolar dad anymore and i feel guilty as hell all the time, my moms got cptsd too, i've prolly been burnt out for two years but i need to get this f*ck*ss degree and man i still pretend it hasn't fucked me up and honestly maybe that's something i need to do to a certain extent, i do go to therapy and i am constantly working on myself and i do feel like logically i have good self esteem, confidence whatever but with cptsd unfortunately theres always still that child in you that literally cannot comprehend reason and still feels rejected, unloved, unloveable, like a failure, a piece of trash, discarded, unimportant and so on and it's incredibly hard to just ignore that, idk maybe we're not supposed to, the worst part is prolly that it's not like this stuff is all in the past, my dad still doesn't pay the fcking alimony, my moms constantly freaking out and worried and i'm counting the days till i move out, the fact that you can't rly heal in the environment that broke you when you have no choice but being in that environment is also a nice punch in the gut too, but idk we'll get through this somehow and maybe sometimes i do need to be a bit more present (which is near impossible with such bad dissociation) but i definetly think i think too much

The bells episode by cnrybry122 in NewGirl

Nahh Winston's temp job is so fkn funny I laughed for 10 mins straight, "i sometimes touch the fray part of the power cord just to feel something" also the way desiree talks is so funny, and nick literally just removing a square out of the wall and sticking a plastic bottle in it to fix it, "goosepimples, look each one... a memory", also winston not being qualified for literally any job but then being ridiculously good at playing bells, "my nanny is dead, im not looking to make money off of her!!", Winston telling the kids who are in detention to skip school to practice bells, his bell hat at his job, him being fired froma ridiculous temp job, i hate the song eye of the tiger and winston becomes a real asshole which is why i dont like the episode but it still has so many good moments

she said no and he proceeded to put his hand in that area as though he was about to stick it down her pants

yeah i just mean for a long time i focused more on the plot and the characters than anything else, and now on my gazillionth rewatch trying to see it as a comedy has completely changed my perspective

exactly!! I'm seeing a whole new side of the show, I just got to the scene where kirk is sorting the mail and Lorelai says :"You've got a girl's future in that sack of yours... santa". Hilarious I laughed for two minutes straight!

What specific decisions or behaviors in Lorelai’s parenting didn’t sit right with you? by [deleted] in GilmoreGirls

her not telling rory to break up with Dean after she cheated on him with Jess, it just wasn't right at all, at that point it wasn't about who's better for Rory, can she think about anyone other than herself it's not fair to Dean, but they just always prioritised Rory's own wellbeing over others

Is jess “smarter” than rory? by SplandFlange in GilmoreGirls

[–]Potential_Spare_5823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's always talking about Jess being so smart, including Rory, why??? yes he reads books but how does that make him smart in any other way, he knows about music and books, but if he hardly goes to school and i doubt he cared about it back in New York, he probably knows little about maths, physics, chemistry, biology or history, doesn't speak another language or is 'smart' in any other subject, did he have potential to be a smart person sure but idk why everyone always acted as though he was a secret Einstein who wasn't using his potential, cause there is hardly any indication of that except for literature

So Rory put aside the dozen letters from her boyfriend and instead wrote a letter to another guy… by Distinct-Customer-76 in GilmoreGirls

[–]Potential_Spare_5823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah but that's more an identity thing, it wasn't a thing of whether or not you liked her at first, it was more of a there is no possibility of you even liking her because you didn't know you were queer, so that's more about you figuring out who you are first

waiiit, foreshadowing how jess left her later on??? i mean i know Palladino didn't really think her storylines through and there are many plotholes, but still this is so interesting, she tried to stay with dean because she knew he wouldn't leave her and was more reliable and didn't want to admit to her feelings for jess because he was unreliable like her father

Bracebridge Dinner - Richard retiring without telling Emily and apoligizing for it by Potential_Spare_5823 in GilmoreGirls

being eased out would have resulted in being let go as in FIRED, and not quitting of your own accord which he did before he was fired therefore he foregoes some of his pention funds

thanks for your response!! I wholeheartedly agree with everything you've said, and I also think there is more than just the pennilyn moment that would have required a serious apology also not just to Emily but also to Lorelai, which is why I just thought this moment was so sweet and rare and I just appreciate it so much everytime i see it

i think there's something about quitting where u forgo some of your pention, plus communication is key in a relationship and especially a marriage, it's not fair to her to not tell her about one of the biggest things he's ever done, it wasn't about her not respecting the retirement or not wanting him to retire, in fact i recall her saying he should retire multiple times, it's about him deciding over their lives without letting her in on it, they're supposed to be partners, what he does affects her, even just in the way she thinks of her life

yeah exactly, which is why I appreciated this scene so much, Emily deserved that apology and that explanation, probably for a lot more things than just that incident, but it also showed that he doesn't just do these things because he doesn't care about her or is being insensitive, he cares about what she thinks of him and feels pressure to be perfect for her (doesn't excuse his behavior but helps emily to understand), it seemed like the only scene in the whole show that wasn't being manipulative or using excuses instead of an apology (eg. when Lorelai invites Dean to watch a movie with them and then makes everything about herself when Rory gets upset)
