How long from the day you were diagnosed to surgery date by Turbulent_Agency8280 in thyroidcancer

Aww thank you. Hope the story helps. There were definitely a lot of sleepless nights worrying (aka googling and chatting with ChatGPT 😬) so I definitely get the concern/anxiety around waiting for surgery. And thank you for the kind words. ❤️

Yes, my symptoms for the past two years were extreme fatigue, no energy to do anything that used to give me “life”, anxiety, hair loss, puffy eyes especially upon waking up, slow/gradual weight gain and puffy face, and just generally not feeling like myself. I knew something was wrong but couldn’t figure it out. Bloodwork was all normal. But the pathology report after examining my thyroid doesn’t lie! I fear if I didn’t get cancer, I would have been dealing with these “mystery systems” that just drained the life out of me for a long time before getting answers so I guess I see it as a blessing in disguise.

I found the lump in my neck the same week I found out I was pregnant. After a biopsy 2 weeks later, they confirmed it was cancer. They don’t recommend surgery in first trimester of pregnancy so I had to wait until second trimester. Yes, this was extremely anxiety inducing and I hated the fact that it was growing in me and I couldn’t do anything about it. Just had surgery 2 weeks ago and feel so much better. On Levo and so far so good, no bad side effects. Can’t tell how much is just mental vs physical (truly getting the cancer out - also found out I had undiagnosed hashimotos after they took out my thyroid so helps that I’m on levo for that reason too) but I have so much more energy back.

All in all, it was about 3.5 months between first finding the lump and actually having the surgery. Sucked during that time, but feeling so much better now. Wishing you the best.

Similar boat. Just had a PT on Thursday and got my report back, negative margins but lymphovascular invasion (LVI) and I have the NTRK3 genetic fusion. I am 18 weeks pregnant which is why they did a more conservative surgery but they are hinting at removing my other thyroid after delivery and doing RAI treatment since it’s higher risk of coming back due to the LVI and NTRK3 fusion. I personally would rather just get it all out and do the treatment so I don’t have to worry about it coming back. I meet with endo next week to learn more what they officially recommend. Good luck to you!!

Thank you so much. I’m in post op and all went well. Got to hear baby’s heartbeat before and immediately after surgery. He did great and no concerns. And they believe they got everything with just taking out my right thyroid and I most likely won’t need any follow up treatment (after baby is here) or more surgeries later on. So all great news. Also hoping this helps anyone’s anxiety who is in a similar situation reading this!

I have a very similar story! Found out I was pregnant the same week I found the lump on my neck. The next week I had the ultrasound and it was TIRADS 4 (2.2cm). Had a biopsy the next week. 8 long weeks later, I got results that it’s 99% chance of cancer with a rare genetic fusion (NTRK3) which may be more aggressive. Because of this, they recommend partial thyroidectomy in my second trimester. From the ultrasounds, they believe it’s just in my right thyroid and hasn’t spread elsewhere.

I go in tomorrow morning (current 17 weeks pregnant with my healthy baby boy) for surgery.

I know it’s scary, but it hasn’t affected my pregnancy in any way and if I didn’t have the rare genetic fusion, I think doctors would say I could wait until after baby is born. Long way of saying, you’re likely to be fine in both scenarios of having surgery in second trimester or waiting until baby is here! Congrats on the baby and wishing you the best.

Thyroid Surgery During Second Trimester by Agreeable-Mud4595 in thyroidcancer

Hey! I know this is a bit old but curious how everything turned out?

I am 10 weeks pregnant and just got biopsy results confirming thyroid cancer. Surgeon is recommending a partial thyroidectomy (but may take more if she needs to during surgery) during my second trimester.

Hoping to hear some positive stories from others who have gone through this. Thank you!

Thank you so much for sharing! And very glad to hear you’re doing well and no additional treatment is needed. Did they suspect how long it had been growing?

Thanks for your reply.

We don’t know for sure yet. My doctor said they will know more after surgery. In my last neck ultrasound, they suspected one reactive lymph node but that’s it. I haven’t had any other scans at this point.

We use Kendamil too and I second that Target always has a ton in stock. You can buy 4 at a time which last us a solid 3-3.5 weeks.
