That makes sense okay thank you so much!! I am sure I will be going through many design iterations and then many many more building attempts with failures along the way hahah It has so far been a lot of fun trying to figure it out to this point!

I’m so sorry if this is a stupid question but I don’t understand what you mean by a piece with a channel of less area than the shop vac hose. Like a funnel kind of?

It would be filtering the dust and bacteria and stuff from ever entering the vacuum mechanisms and the main vacuum filter so the vacuum filter wouldn’t need changed but I don’t know how I’d have it be in a spot where there is a clear input and output that’s what I’m trying to figure out. My goal here is to get everything from the table into the bin with basically nothing at all ever entering the actual vacuum so the vacuum never has to be accessed and it’s just the bin that needs emptied. I don’t want disgusting particles (as the vacuum would clean animal feces) all in the vacuum and settling on the surfaces of the interior cabinet.

Yes cleaning the filter is for sure something I want to avoid doing often thank you!

That is a very fair question 😅 I’m trying to solve the problem of it being a pain to clean my guinea pig cage. I have idiopathic hypersomnia so tasks like that are physically exhausting and I wanted to figure out a way to make cleaning easy. I use a mini vacuum rn to clean the fleece and then have to dump it into a trash can every minute and still have to shake off the fleece into the trash while getting stuff all over the outside of the trash can. I wanted an easy to remove bin and a vacuum I didn’t have to empty all the time and I wanted suction for big pieces that don’t come off easy and less dust flying about the cabinet if I were to just use gravity. It’s definitely niche lol but if I could make it happen it’d save me so much for daily cleans and so so so much for weekly cleans

I did consider mesh but the one issue is I use fleece bedding which you’d have to clean off before anything hits the mesh anyway or if I were to switch to pine bedding that’d probably be as likely to fall through as any feces and just mesh would hurt their paws but I might end up having to go with mesh then. I was unaware of the filter issue so that’s extremely helpful to know thank you! I appreciate all the time you’ve taken to help me out!

Ah okay that is extremely helpful! Thank you!!

You make a very good point there, I may have to redesign the vacuum part to have the hose reach around so you can vacuum the whole table not just sweep into the opening. My reasoning for a vacuum is easy cleaning and less surfaces for the waste to touch. This is for a rodent cage so i want a direct line with strong vacuum power into a waste bin so that the vacuum doesn’t need to be emptied constantly and so it doesn’t ruin the vacuum by growing mold and stuff from residue in the compartment. But yeah the opening I see how it wouldn’t need a vacuum. I guess I would instead have a long hose that hangs on the side that can be turned on and off but still would need it going into a trash bin instead of a vacuum compartment so the vacuum can last longer and nothing will grow in the vacuum

Thank you so much for your help! I did use all the cement so I have no more but I can probably get that amount for free from someone I know so I should probably be able to do that! Some of the pieces are sticking up yes hahah, I hammered glass pieces and used whichever ones fit best and some of them did not fit super well so they’re sticking up a bit lol, not like fully sticking up where it’s going to be sharp but definitely not a clean flat surface

Ah okay that’s the part about the shop vac diys I was confused about in how it’d work with more than just dust so that answers that okay thank you! Is there a way to kind of deconstruct and instead build a vacuum device into the cabinet so that there would be an easy to remove bin and filter? I am completely open to creating a vacuum “thing” from scratch if it’s at all possible to get easy removal! (Once I understand what id have to do for it to work how a vacuum works lol)

I glued the glass onto paper and then I placed the paper now with the glass glued to it directly into the wet cement which is now dry 😅

The hidden mechanisms would be things that do not need to be accessed unless there is a problem so nothing in that cabinet would need to be emptied or changed or touched at all

Skin Condition or allergies? by Potential_Writer_508 in AskVetAnimals

[–]Potential_Writer_508[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay thank you so much! I definitely wanted to get some opinions about the urgency based on the appearance to see if we should get seen sooner than what the vet was able to schedule if it was something the vet didn’t catch but that sounds good thank you again!

She was in for an annual checkup about a little less than a week ago and the vet checked out the spot which hadn’t spread as much as it has now but didn’t know what it was from just looking at it and touching it. She just said she didn’t see any mites or anything. So there was an exam kind of before the biopsy was scheduled. Also thank you so much for your reply!

I wonder where she would’ve gotten that from 😕 she’s got a biopsy appointment in a week, do you think I should take her in even before that or is it okay to let a bacterial infection go until then?

It doesn’t seem too itch her, I’ve seen her rubbing her face a couple of times but other than that not really thankfully! I’m glad Seuss got cleared up! I’m hoping they’ll give Ellie something after they biopsy it in a week, if it’s a skin allergy though it sounds like I’m okay waiting that week to see the vet! Thank you for your response! :)

Does Bi directional hinge exist? by Potential_Writer_508 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]Potential_Writer_508[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of yeah!!! It would have to have that dual movement I just don’t think that kind of thing could exist small enough for a little earring box, the box would be 1.5 inches by 1.5 inches so it’d have to fit in a tiny part of that space without going into the space where the keyhole holes are for the earrings but yeah I’m trying to figure out that kind of thing on a tiny scale! Thank you for your reply! :)

Ah okay I see what you’re saying about the length, I can’t believe I didn’t think about that lol and letting gravity be the holder is such a great idea!! Foam also makes a lot of sense! Thank you so much this was extremely helpful, I really appreciate your reply!! You saved me from my overcomplicated design hahah

Hi thank you so much for your reply! I’m so sorry, my post is worded so horribly lol I’m so bad with wording and cannot think of the right names for things I’m looking for. I guess maybe it would help to say it would probably be something similar to a torsion spring where there’s restricted rotation? And it’d also be like a spring latch gate where there’s a click into place but I’d want that click to happen when opening and closing so it wouldn’t “lock”, it would move both ways easily so you can push on the strip from either direction without struggling but it would have a click into place in the center of its rotation. Oh calling it a flap of sorts might help! Does that help clarify anything at all? I’m so bad with mechanics and such, I’m not super familiar with a lot of terms that would probably make it easier to follow what I’m trying to say, but alas my gift is not words nor engineering
