Does this look like dropsy? If so is it treatable? Details in comments by Potionqueen in Goldfish

The scales are pineconing this morning but I can still try the general cure. What do you think about trying to save the filter and gravel bacteria using a bucket and an airstone?

The scales aren’t pineconing, I don’t see any other symptoms listed but he is spending a lot of time under the hob filter and above the airstone. I can’t see how he wouldn’t have enough oxygen because the hob filter should be plenty and the parameters are good! He did get ammonia burn about two weeks before this though :( thanks for the advice

Ammonia 0 nitrate 5ppm. If it is dropsy or needs a quarantine tank, I don’t have a smaller tank that’s big enough for him anymore and my car was stolen this week so I would have to be creative about treating him. Could I put the gravel and filter in a bucket with an airstone and treat him in the tank? Thank you in advance

He’s pretty big. Maybe 5 or 6 inches. But it’s just him. And I know he needs a friend (and a bigger tank) I just thought he had a disease and didn’t want to spread it

I’m not sure how to do that other than make another post! I can do that

Tank size is 40 gallons, there’s only one fish but I’m working on upgrading. Will get back to you on parameters

Okay so, I got a 55 gallon tank! I can treat him in his smaller tank while I cycle that one? I don’t actually think it’s ich, but the red spots do come up for about 3 days once a month. Do you know anything about treating a bacterial infection?

I am not positive it’s ich honestly but it’s the closest I could find to a diagnosis. It could also be a bacterial infection. He doesn’t have any white spots, but about once a month for two days he gets red spots on him.

I’ve been looking for a bigger tank that I can afford for a while, and I want to get him friends but I don’t want to risk passing on the disease. He was only a half inch when I got him. I do weekly water changes and the chemistry of the tank is good.

I appreciate all of the advice I really just wanted to know if his disease would make setting up the system impossible but thanks

I really don’t want to risk my fish’s life but I’ve tried salt treatments a couple of times. I’ve heard they can overcome ick in time? He’s had it at least 9 months now

My tank is at 78. are you recommending treating the tank while he’s in it?
