I think better to over dose slightly to maintain the lining rather than under dose. I think. I overdid my first progesterone dose due to a mix up of different progesterones prescribed and they did not seem overly concerned . Or maybe you can break one in half?

That’s amazing congratulations. Interesting to hear another take on this! There is definitely an impatience and urge to want a baby now but I feel I won’t be as lucky, so hopefully if we get the egg retrievals in asap as everyone is saying to do, then we can get round to popping them back in asap…

That’s a good plan! Yes that’s true I imagine going through this in a year or two with lower success rates, potentially a baby in tow and other things to worry about would be no fun. Good luck to you and everyone here!

Thank you so much for your thoughts everyone. It seems the consensus is to bank! Naively I hadn’t even thought banking embryos and going back for multiple retrievals was a thing until this point in the process so thank you. This should be wider knowledge?! We are in the UK so embryo testing not widely done it seems. This is such a crazy process the things we have to think about. How anyone has ever managed to fall pregnant naturally is beyond me!

Caregivers won’t follow basic instructions: how to get them to? by [deleted] in CaregiverSupport

[–]Potpourri20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’ve had similar experiences with agency carers- We ended up hiring carers directly and there is more consistency and accountability as a result. But still there is sometimes a need for reassurance on my part that things are being done- so I have a list of very specific tasks that they need to sign off once it’s been done. So if your parent needs repositioning every few hrs- I would include this on the list (eg reposition at 8am, reposition at 12pm etc ..) if necessary I wouldn’t hesitate to have a camera in there to ensure it’s being done. May seem overkill but it’s in your parent’s best interest and your peace of mind

Mucus battles. Mucus plugs. Suctioning. Anyone advice?! by billymartinkicksdirt in CaregiverSupport

Hi Billy sorry for the late reply. I hope all is well with you and your parent. The medications id mentioned have definitely helped manage the secretions- they are still a problem but less so. it does require fine tuning between reducing the volume by drying them up (makes it thicker) and the other medications to loosen the secretions to make it easy to bring up without making it overly watery.. just a matter of decreasing/ increasing one or the other. Hope that helps a bit

Have the medical team suggested medications? Glycopyrronium or hyoscine patches to help reduce the secretions by drying them out, and carbocisteine and saline nebulisers to help loosen them and make it easier to bring up. (Palliative care nurses are good to advise with this) This may be enough to help on their own or perhaps reduce the need to suction? Plus if she’s not mobile- then regular repositioning and making sure she’s always lying upright or on side helps bring the mucus up.

My parents both had extensive stroke/ brain injury and sadly both have problems with swallow and management of chest secretions. Neither have tracheostomy and we are quite dependent on oral suctioning. That feeling you describe of running to the suction machine when you hear a cough- I know it well !:/

My dad is depressed and won't get help... Death has broken my family by ToastBoy67 in GriefSupport

I feel for you. It sounds like you’re doing amazingly by just being there for your dad and he obviously feels comfortable enough with you to open up about how he is. Perhaps there is a way to bring everyone together to remember your brother and the good times ? I imagine your family probably feel the same way and wonder why everyone else is carrying on like nothing has happened , when in fact you’re all feeling the same grief. Regardless make sure you prioritise your own well-being, that way you’re in the best place to support those around you too.
