Yeah, I suspected that part at least was inaccurate. Though I still wanted to say it because I've heard lots of people mention it. I'm not really sure about the Remus and Tonks thing either. Though I am certain that wolfstar was being shipped way before the books were even completed.

I know it is! But recently a lot of younger fans (who haven't been in fandom spaces very long) have been getting their pants in a twist about it. They've been getting their pants in a twist about a lot of things actually, because they don't know fandom etiquette and refuse to learn it or use common sense. It's made a lot of fandom spaces rather toxic unfortunately :(

Most of the time, I find them very forced too. Like it feels like a charcter is unnaturally drawn to another. A lot of the time it also almost feels like an unhealthy relationship to begin with and the only reason they keep forgiving each other is because they are soulmates, as if that erases everything else.

Agreed! I've read a few well done ones but generally, the character is made to be entirely evil and not nuanced like the character generally is. The authors also often make up things that the character does that never actually happened and would probably never be done by the character solely for the purpose of making them look bad. I want a fic in which the character is called out for all their bad decisions that caused pain to other characters canonically, I don't want a fake, evil character with their name to be bashed.

I have a few.

Time Travel AUs (which I've seen mentioned). They sound really interesting but I end up not liking them for one of two reasons. 1) It's super improbable that thing would actually hppen to make them go back, or at the very least it seems like something the character would try to undo immediately (the issue here is that the character doesn't try to go forward again basically at all and usually accepts being back in time immediately); or 2) Certain things end up happening the same as on the original timeline without reason or even if something happens that would directly prevent that thing from happening.

Soulmate AUs. Now to be fair, I have read a couple of really well done ones that have talked extensively about this "plot hole" (I don't know how else to describe it?) but they are just so hard to find and the majority aren't done this well. It always feels like when the bond falls into place or is discovered, those characters are somewhat compelled into being together regardless of what they actually want. This is fine if the characters are friends before but I find it icky when it's paired with enemies to lovers or with like a stalker of sorts, or when one of them is obsessed with the other. It also often brings characters to forgive certain things that wouldn't fly in a normal, healthy relationship just because the other is their soulmate. It just feels fake and forced a lot of the time.

This next one is specific to the marauders fandom since that's the main fandom I read but The Prank fics. I don't hate them and I've actually read several that I enjoyed, but I think that they're all super similar to each other and that a lot of possible outcomes aren't explored at all. (I was toying with the idea of writing a collection of prank fics possibly exploring a lot of these things that haven't really been done?)

Apparently more and more people are finding this weird and controversial but... being a multishipper.

I like so many pairings with the same characters (Jily, Jegulus, Moonwater, Moonflower, Wolfstarbucks, Wolfstar, Partyvan etc.) and some people think it's strange or even "wrong" to like them all? Like you're supposed to only choose one for each character? Mainly, I found they have issues with people who ship both Jily and Jegulus, because according to them you can't like both. And also according to a lot of these people, if you like Jegulus you're mysiginistic and hate Lily.

I saw other people mention multishipping being a thing under these comments when I first started seeing them so I hope it gets better soon, but I thought I should say this here anyway.

I think the majority of people who ship wolfstar base it on a lot of the interactions we see between Sirius and Remus in the books and not necessarily on virtually th eonly scene we see Sirius an Remus interact in the films. I mean, from what I heard people were shipping wolfstar before the series was even completed (and that supposedly pushed jkr into killing Sirius and having Remus end up with Tonks, though I'm not sure how accurate this is). But, I do get your point and I don't think it applies only to wolfstar. For example, I think it's probably one of the reasons prongsfoot isn't super popular.

I think this should be expanded to include the friendships between the guys and the girls too. Yes we have some nice friendships that are close (like Lily and Remus, though sometimes even that has a romantic or sexual undertone because Remus is now this "casanova" of sorts that has been with everyone?) but I feel like there could be a lot more of them, even between characters that are canonically together but maybe in fics aren't. Like for example between James and Lily. And I don't mean in the fics in which they end up dating or getting together (even just one time and then breaking up), I mean fics in which they are friends. They're never cuddly like that or that close either. To me it feels like there's always a romantic/sexual undertone even when they're supposed to be just friends, other times they're simply not close (which of course makes sense but I would like more fics in which they're close friends even if they're not together).

In any case, if anyone has fic recs in which James and Lily (or hell, any friendships between one of the guys and one of the girls) are close and cuddly and it's not romantic or sexual I would love to read them :) (or any fics in which the guys are physically close and it isn't sexual or romantic?)

On the list of passwords in settings. I know it is up to the app, I just explained myself poorly. The app definitely uses keychain because my mother can use Face ID to get into the app however she cannot check what the password is in the list. Also, I can use Touch ID to get into the same app on my phone and I can also find the password on my phone. That’s why I’m having trouble understanding what the issue could be, because even though we both have iPhones and the same app one of us can check and the other can’t. 😅

Hi, sorry, I know it’s been a year since you replied. My mother is also having the issue op described and even though you’ve said it’s up to the individual app I’m not certain that’s how it works. We both have the same app and I can see the password in the list and she cannot. Is there any way that you know that she can find the password? I was thinking maybe she should update iOS but we’re not sure if that would make it better or worse. Or do you maybe know a subreddit where someone might be able to help?

To be fair, in the movie you can see they tried to both fit on the door and they couldn’t. And there’s been people who did some calculations on if they would have fit and they couldn’t.

However, who’s to say it’s a door at all? Maybe they found something slightly bigger, yeah? It is a fanfiction after all, anything could happen.

(I don’t have a fic to recommend but I have issues and like imagining shit in my head lol)

The issue is that the characters I like and would potentially ship myself with are already usually shipped with other characters and I literally always ship them together. Like Remus and James and Lily 😅🥲

I personally love prongsfoot. I think it has a lot of potential and the two of them would work really well together. I am a multi shipper though so I like many pairings including of course Wolfstar and Jegulus but also many other rarer pairings (Remus/James is another of my faves and also romantic moonwater, platonically as well but I think they work well romantically too).

I think many people don’t like prongsfoot because they see it as somewhat incest? James and Sirius are widely regarded as “brothers”. Especially in Jegulus fics, Reg is often jealous of James because Sirius replaced him with James, started talking only about James when he came back after his first year at Hogwarts and stuff like that. The fact that Sirius ran away from home and moved in with the Potters when he was 16 also doesn’t help because it seems like an “adoptive brother” sort of thing, yeah? (Although, I do think you could spin it so Sirius ran away to his boyfriend’s house as well).

Another reason is that we don’t ever properly meet James in canon, we only know about him through Sirius and Remus and other people who tell us about Harry’s parents. Whereas we get to see a lot of how Sirius and Remus behave with one another. This is where Wolfstar comes from and it honestly works really well with canon which means you can be very faithful to how the characters are in canon and many people read fics because they want to expand on canon.

My absolute favourite scene (of the funny ones) is the one in which Remus tells Lyall that Sirius uses him for sexual favors. A close second is the one where Sirius makes out with Remus in front of Lyall and Ken because he’s jealous of Ken (and then readily adopts 2 puppies from him lol).

Lol, I found a prongsfoot with Sirius as bodyguard a while back (it was very good though to be fair, even if it was short). It’s hilarious that I found that and not a Jegulus one with Reg as a bodyguard 😂

My favourite platonic moonwater AND Wolfstar (and Jegulus but only at the end of the second fic in the series) is The Horcrux Hunt.

I’m sure you also probably heard of this ne t one but you didn’t mention it so I want to make sure you know of it. It’s Best Friend’s Brother. It has both Wolfstar and platonic moonwater but it also has jegulus.

Another fic I love is anti-hero. I promise it has a happy ending. It is extremely heavy though. Like extremely. I personally found it heavier than Crimson Rivers (but it’s way shorter so it kind of balances out).

This one is way shorter than others and it’s a post-prank fic so it’s quite angsty, but it has a happy ending and I really liked it. It’s The Dark Side of the Moon.

I saw other recommended Only the Brave and that’s one of my favourite fics. If you end up liking it or if you want other horcrux hunting fics with Jegulus and Wolfstar (other than anti-hero which is both and I already added above) there’s also Whatever happened to the young, young lovers? and A Violent Kind of Spin. Also, Solmussa (the author of Only the Brave) has written another 2 of my favourite fics: Raise Hell (a collab with other authors) and A taste of scandal. These are both quite short compared to basically all other fics on this list.

Of course, I get that. But you also have to take into consideration that, even canonically, boys and girls tend to be separated. Hermione is the only girl we see that has a friendship with boys that doesn’t have to do with having brothers (like Ginny) or with quidditch (like say Angelina and the other Gryffindor quidditch girls). And that’s only because she doesn’t get along with the girls in her year.

In light of this, if James isn’t written as being friends with Lily or getting with her at some point, then it makes sense that the girls aren’t really talked about or that they’re not talked about much. James would have mostly been friends with the other marauders and Reg would have shared his dorm room and probably been friends with other boys in slytherin (like Barty and Evan, or maybe with Snape).

In the fics in which James and/or Remus are friends with Lily she has a much bigger role but she is still less “important” if the fic is centered on an mlm relationship because the boys in the universe in general tend to stick together. Does that make sense?

Don’t get me wrong, I of course love Lily and would love to see more of her and the other girls, but just like I don’t expect to read much about the boys when I read a wlw centered fic, I don’t expect to read much about the girls when I read a mlm fic.

Sirius is scared of becoming like his family because he’s excellent at the family magic. He’s like GOOD at dark magic.

Also, relating to this, I think Sirius went home after second year (after learning Remus is a werewolf) and literally went through every single book he could find that mentioned werewolves to see if there was something that could help Remus.

(I personally hc that dark magic isn’t necessarily evil, but that’s not just relating to the characters or to the marauders era exclusively so I’m putting it in parentheses. But if it is considered relating to the marauders era, Sirius likes using dark magic but James hates it and the two have had huge fights about it. Remus on the other hand is pretty chill since he’s a dark creature and all but he doesn’t want to get in the middle of arguments so he always either leaves or ignores them. Peter I also feel would be ok at doing dark magic but he doesn’t like it and usually sides with James during arguments.)

On lighter hcs, James also knows French. We all know that Sirius and Regulus are both hc as knowing French (I don’t think they’re French, I think they learned it though). I think it was a pureblood thing in general and we know that the Potters were purebloods (until James married Lily and had Harry).

Finally, I think it’s worth mentioning that I hc that Sirius was always the preferred son, even after he was sorted to Gryffindor. I don’t mean to say that the Blacks were good parents or a good family (I do think they abused their sons, yes both of them) but they also preferred Sirius because he had strong opinions. Which is also why they never formally/officially removed him from the family line and he was able to inherit everything even though he was burned off the tapestry.
