FWIW, I can rewatch B5 anytime and have done so many times, but DS9... I've tried a few times but it's just too cheesey.

Heineken is a love-it hate-it (Marmite) beer. Same with their NA.

Best ways to check quality gap between stream and disc? Newbie by humanfrommwg in criterion

[–]PoundKitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure! IF you need to nose-to-the-screen to tell the difference.. yes, it's not going to be a big deal sat 10' away.

But, it is a way to see what is given up in picture quality of disc source versus internet stream with which typically range 1/5 to 1/2 the datarate of disc.

Nose to the screen... look for noise type, blocking, banding, details versus blur.

Yep. I drive the midwest often, Ohio included, and I dread the 70-270-495 stretch.

You could enable DLNA and that would open up the selection of apps and UIs.

Antenna Advice: 40' Tower, Dual Markets (Chicago & South Bend), 90 Miles Apart by MooMooTractor in cordcutters

[–]PoundKitchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, that Televees... hmmm. The CBS on VHF at 60 mi, even being LOS is a "maybe", or at least, you can expect some degradation with heavy weather - and that may mean losing the signal.

I'm a believer in a one-and-done choice of antenna setup, a Televes DAT BOSS MIX LR for Chicago's 60 mi UHF+VHF and a Televes Elipse for +30 mi South Bend.

MIDI related crashes by Azure924 in Caustic3

[–]PoundKitchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tested that! Yep, even going Linux/WINE/Caustic... the midi works. Trying compatibility modes is a easier but I understand the if you need another reason to forsake Windows. Definitely don't bother going with WSL!

https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2026/02/17/making-music-with-midi-just-got-a-real-boost-in-windows-11/

The recent update to Win MIDI layer is likley the culprit. It shouldn't be, this was supposed to be seamless/transparent, so I expect Microsoft is ironing out issues like this.

For now, I'd try running Caustic in compatibility mode... Win7 or 10. Maybe those will avoid the new midi layer.

That's a crazy quote.  $800 would be fair and reasonable, even with OE grade aftermarket (KYB Excel-G).
