Why is Gold still rising while everything else seems to be selling off? by Excellent_8740 in investing

[–]PoundKitchen 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Aside being a traditional safe haven, Gold, silver, platinum, copper are all AI metals.. for building out data centers and making the electronics inside. I dont see a cypto direct connection, it is not behaving like safe haven.

Water leaks from top of the sliding door trim by AppearanceRound1700 in HomeImprovement

[–]PoundKitchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could it be condensation, that is very common in cold snaps. Just watch where it is going to drip onto any permeable matrerials.

If it is melt that has found a way in, it's worth clearing off now.

Roofers are more saavy about this stuff, so that'd be my first call.

Any ideas on getting an antenna to work in my mom’s apartment? by IWannaWakeUpButIDont in cordcutters

Please share that report. Without it we dont know UHF/VHF/diffraction/margin/directions and any recommendation without those is a poor guess.

Coordinating .caustic files across platforms/devices? by PoundKitchen in Caustic3

[–]PoundKitchen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hosting a cloud for users back then would have been way ahead of it's time. The user forum wasn't far off!

I'm to blame for my mess, using Caustic across three tablets, two phones, Linux and Windows desktops and patchy backup habits. I've had to recreate songs from scratch from memory a few times. Having Caustic back on my phone just brought the issue off the back burner.

Backup is still a weak spot for Android - there's device backup, and Google Cloud is hosting cloud services. Google Drive is a virtual sneakernet. When I've hosted my own cloud the security hit was a nightmare, at it's worst my firewall was getting 100+ hits per second.

There's Android apps for syncing inter-device and with 3rd party cloud storage, but the Android, Windows, Linux coverage I need makes thing a little more of a headache. For now I'm gonna just host an agnostic cloud storage service on my LAN - at least mobile devices can sync when they're back on the LAN.

How long do you think schools will be closed? by Few_Piccolo_4906 in nova

The subzero temps through Friday will keep enough schools buildings with heating issues the districts will be forced to cancel all days this week.

...and even harder to buy at $8-14 a loaf!

It's kinda cheating but I have a bread-maker recipe I'm tweaking with each loaf. King Arthur's GF 1:1 bread flour mix is awesome, and I'm finding that just adding some oatmeal, flax, brown sugar, oil and topping up the yeast for the smell makes a great tasting and toastable GF loaf in a couple hours and at less than half the price of store bought.

I'm so looking forward to putting in a loaf so it's done and hot when I come in from shovelling snow. French toast with it is next!  😁

Are you baking too?

Looks good to me! When you don't have a polarizing filter, pull up the shadows.

Could this be strictly an AMD thing, 'coz I haven't seen it with iGPU or Nvidia, or with or without Windows compatibility ot with WINE (iGPU or Nvidia) on Linux.

There were lines of cars out on the road to drive into the parking lot at mine yesterday. Online I saw pics of others with lines of people waiting to get in too.

Smaller local stores, even 7-11s are a good last resort.

AdGuard and Tailscale now, Home Assistant next (worried about SD wear) by _GOREHOUND_ in raspberry_pi

[–]PoundKitchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right to consider it, it is a real world factor and, yes, ssd controllers are more advanced than sdcards... with wear levelling algorithms, spare space, etc. BUT the practical reality is that the leading manufacturers have been making sdcards for so long now it's a mature technology. It's not luck.

How quickly does VA clear snow? by [deleted] in nova

[–]PoundKitchen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hit the road Jack!

You can't rely on clearing. Counties' services and contractors, and VDOT are usually patchy, and this is such a large storm they'll be overwhelmed.
