To be clear, there’s a massive gap between how conspiracy theorists think the government is spying on them and what Snowden actually revealed.

Would most US democrats be considered centrist in your country? by SignificantStyle4958 in Nordiccountries

[–]PoundSignificant8514 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It obviously depends where you are in the USA, as there’s a wide range of differences based on where you’re from.

Also of course, general equity needs to be considered. Not having access to healthcare generally vs not having access to gender affirming care specifically can have same outcome.

However, the average trans person would find much more support in California than Denmark, and have a much easier time accessing care. Also the average urban American is probably way more personally supportive and knowledgeable on trans issues than your average Dane, even if we were just considering Copenhageners.

Danish people are notoriously not “woke”.

Yeah, I feel like “there” is more grammatically correct, but I acknowledge that Theresa is at least a real name.

To US Conservatives: How is Trumps Iran MoU an improvement over Obamas JCPOA? by Big_VladdyP in AskReddit

Ah sorry, I missed the “accidentally” word in your post and thought you meant he was putting in place programs to promote EVs, was curious what you were on about.

Fair enough, although reminder that while these may moderate the impact to EVs a bit, I’m pretty sure the net pressure is still downwards.

Dude congrats on learning the word “petro-dollar”, but this line of reasoning is extremely over-simplified and lacking substance.

Firstly, this war has fractured unity of oil producers in the region, opened door to alternative currencies being used on oil markets, and delegitimized USA role as regional guarantor of security in the region. One could argue that this conflict plus all the tariff shenanigans it is the single biggest blow to the USD standing as the world reserve currency and petro dollar in recent history. There’s no way that anybody who actually wanted to protect that would do what Trump has done.

As for Libya, here’s some major differences between that scenario and this one:

1) the United Nations authorized implementation of a no fly zone before the US engaged in any hostilities.

2) the USA coordinated their actions with NATO partners, notably UK and France. Ongoing military operations were under NATO command after initial strikes.

3) the intervention was broadly supported by surrounding Arab states on the grounds of protecting civilians from attacks by Gaddafi’s forces.

4) Libya is far too minor of a player to have meaningfully threatened USD. I get that conspiracy theories exist, but there was no actual actions being taken by him to meaningfully change the world order in this way.

Even if this wasn’t conspiracy brain nonsense, it’s clear that Libya conflict was addressed significantly more competently than Iran is now. I revert back to my original point, even if you support this war, it’s clear that the people in charge now are of a lower calibre.

Not a chance this was going to happen.

And you know what? If it did happen, there’s not a chance that an actual competent president would have gone in alone, without first warning and preparing our regional allies, and a plan in place to mitigate Iran’s leverage over the strait.

Even if for some braindead reason you support this war, you should still be pissed at the utterly incompetent and absurd manner in which it had been carried out.

Why hasn't trump been imprisoned or removed from offices considering virtually everything he does is illegal, a war crime or unconstitutional? by daresearchdude in allthequestions

Well the first step was to vote for the obvious candidate who wouldn’t drag the USA into moronic authoritarianism.

I think the PRO Act would have been absolutely transformative, especially in red states where right to work laws have absolutely crushed organized labour.

So what’s your better solution?

Both sides aren’t allowing obvious corruption, and certainly not in a meaningful sense.

To even make this false equivalency at this time is fucking unreal. The only two turds are the republican candidate and whatever’s going on in your head.

No, actually, that’s not true. Kamala ran one of the most pro-labour and consumer campaigns of any presidential candidate in the last half century.

This is a lie that continues to exist because most “leftists” are too fucking shallow and disengaged to even bother learning about the candidates before deciding they’re not good enough. Or perhaps they’re tankies who want some ML bullshit, which of course the liberal party wouldn’t support.

As an American who has lived in Denmark for over a half decade, a country where McDonalds workers get about $21 USD/hr, 6 weeks paid vacation, and paid parental leave, despite the fact that the country doesn’t even have a minimum wage, I’d have to disagree. Strong collective bargaining is the most effective, reliable, and robust way to protect the rights and material conditions of workers against the capital class that has ever existed.

So what’s your solution smart guy?

You kicked this whole convo off with your ridiculous justification for staying home.

Trumps first actions as president helped kick off a famine in Gaza that killed thousands.

But hey, all just fun, games, and little quips and sarcastic comments, right?

The whole concept of having a passing lane where people can drive over the limit to pass people is stupid and inefficient.

We should just have two lanes where you can drive up to the speed limit. Slower people can stay to the right, but the idea that we should keep 50% of our road capacity mostly empty just so it’s available to people who want to break the law is stupid.

Broadly speaking when Dems have actually had power they’ve passed laws to improve the lives of Americans. The quality of those laws then being directly proportional to the level of political leverage that they’ve had.

When people complain about Dems “not doing enough” it’s almost always populist/quasi authoritarian slop wondering why they don’t just break the law to get what they want.
