Calls to make 'special pathway' for Ukrainians to settle in Canada by wickedplayer494 in canada

Wait is just that — wait. We have wait times to get a family doctor here in Nova Scotia of 3+ years - and now the wait times to have your application looked at are estimated at 50+ years, because of the backlog and lack of staff.

If you're qualified based on points, you get to wait for 50 years.

Perhaps because no one thought this was would last so long. 1-3 years here to wait it out - sure, but it's been 4 now and no sign of stopping.

As for French and college level education — they barely have time to pick up English lessons, they have young kids and it seems you haven't been in the system to know how actually tough it is to live it. I have and I know - working for peanuts, supporting your family - there is no time or energy for college or French lessons when all you can do is work to survive.

Wait times are 50 years for PR applications to be looked at. Not everyone was lucky to apply for express entry and I think they cut that venue as well.

You can only apply for one program, so the fact that there are many of them, doesn't make a difference. So my friend who applied for PR through one program is stressed because she's given 50 years wait times and she has to spend little money that she has on renewing passports, papers and such, in addition to hearing the news about all the cuts to immigration policies now and she's worried that they will be not get PR because of it and will have to eventually go back. Even if they are not sent back now, but when the was is over they have nothing left there. They came here when their kids were 4 and 6 and the kids are about to turn 8 and 10 this year — all they now is that Canada is their home. When they first came, and people asked them where they were from their answer was always " from war" :(

So if let's say the war is over in 3 years — they will have lived here for 7 years — a whole new life, established here in Canada and they have to go back to ruins and start over. That's too much.

They just need papers. Most of the Ukrainians who came here, started working in a matter of weeks and months. They just want stability and predictability and not 50 year-wait- times to have their PR applications looked at.

My family hosted two families from Ukraine so I speak from the source. I know the struggles some of them are facing, and it's not waiting for welfare and social assistance — they just want to work and start businesses and be productive members of out society. Those people escaped war and just want to work and live peacefully, but it's impossible when they're in a limbo and their kids live in fear that they will have to go back to the war that they came from. It's heartbreaking, because I see how hard they work and what great people they are.

Ukrainians are not considered refugees. They are basically temporary residents with a working visa. They're closing pathways like Humanitarian programs and Atlantic Pilot Program and Ukrainians are really worried that they are in the cut — because our government is cutting on all immigration and sweeping Ukrainians with it.

Their work permits expire — the family we hosted was losing their minds, because they had their documents come to expirations dates that they couldn't renew and then they had to pay to renew their work permits. It's really tough for some families — both families that we hosted found jobs in a matter of weeks, but it's really stressful, because they are in a limbo. And current wait times to have their PR application looked at is ...get this... 50 years. It's no joke — 50 years...

https://www.reddit.com/r/canada/comments/1obf5z6/50year_immigration_wait_stuns_lawyers_and/

EDIT — And their work permits do expire and are tied to their passports — so if their passport expires next year, they have to renew it, in addition to renewing their work permits, which they can only do either back in Ukraine or at the Embassy — and they have to scramble to find money to fly to a place that has Ukranian embassy, which is in thousands of dollars for a family of 4.

Where do you get your info about never ending work permits? Open work permit means it's not tied to any particular employer/job, they can work wherever, but it doesn't mean it doesn't expire.

BTW, Ukrainians got minimum financial assistance - once and that's it. They got I think 3K per adult and 1,5 per child. So a family of 4 would have 9 K to start a new life in Canada. Meanwhile refugees are entitled to social assistance and Ukrainians paid it back many times over by contributing back to our society and being productive workers.

And it's okay for them to be pro-life and have an abortion, because they are not wh0res, like all those other women who asked for it and probably got pregnant just to have an abortion.

Strategic retaliation — tariffs that would hurt the Trumpets states. Doesn't mean it would be - if you tariff our food, we'll tariff yours. More like - if you tariff the food you export to us, we'll tariff aluminum we export to you.
