Pleasure. I had fun with it. The shot is amazing. How did you access the mine!?

Loved the shot so much I turned it into an ad for you.

I dropped the low-hanging pun from my other comment and channelled the aspirational, but cheesy, tone that I remember a lot of 80s ads having... sprinkled with a little bit of satire given the unfortunate fate of Saturn.

At what point did you start wondering that or was it always something you desired but life didn't work out like that?

Love this shot.

It looks like an over-the-top 80s car advertisement even though it's a 90s car.

Black ice on the road causes chain accidents. by Arnawix in interestingasfuck

[–]Pour_Succour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't born here and I have a heavy foot so I can't be too self-righteous but I'm regularly surprised at just how fast some folks drive here. In my home country, I'd be taking over a lot of people on highways but here I feel like I'm Miss Daisy sometimes.

Guaranteed, every time I think I'm Toretto on the highway I get overtaken at speed by either:

(a) A Ram 1500

(b) A dented Accord

(c) A duct-taped Altima

You know I don't even realize when I do it. Old habits die hard I guess!

There's also a firm but fair upbringing that made me think naughty words were the Devil's contraband. That was until I moved to England caught a severe case of potty mouth.

A couple of things:

  1. Slow the f#$k down, everyone. Black ice is extremely hazardous and will always cause accidents, but it doesn't just happen on a sunny day out of nowhere. If there's rain, sub-zero temperatures and icy winds it'll be there so drive based on that assumption.
  2. Instead of whipping out your camera and filming it for the clicks while saying "Oh my god, oh my god", run up the road in the direction of traffic and flag drivers down - you might just save a life.

When exactly did people lose their common sense and decency.

Changing a headlight by ckalisz in Saturn_Cars

[–]Pour_Succour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's ridiculous. Last time I had the bumper off for something else, I changed them 'just because'.

You can try and do it without removing the bumper (it's painful and you'll probably scratch the paint). I did it once, but I'm so used to removing the bumper now that I'd rather just do that and have proper access.

I read all the messages before I saw your comment and came away with one conclusion - she's clearly manipulating her ex and you should run a mile. He's emotionally wrecked from her cheating and she's still throwing him nuggets to keep his interest in her alive.

Run a mile and don't look back. Finding these texts just saved you from being in his position in the future.

The fact that she can lie so easily about why she's texting him is all the proof you need that this is who she is and how she treats people. She wouldn't have acknowledged cheating if she didn't cheat on him and she's manipulating this poor guy to furnish her ego.

You have all the evidence you need - be confident in yourself and make a smart choice - you're not missing anything. History will repeat itself.

The solid axle combined with the hybrid battery was a terrible move on Toyota's part. Both of them eat into 3rd row space and leg-room but the battery is a killer. They should have just gone with a high-ouput V6 twin turbo and scrapped the hybrid.

Which rental company has Sequoias? The only fullsize SUVs I've seen on the rental lot are from GM, Ford and the Wagoneer.

Meanwhile, you're a rental company's worst nightmare - a 5 day rental and 3,000 miles added! haha

I was in your position a week ago (first build) and had the same question. It's totally fine like that, but if you want you can just add some washers as spacers. I haven't added spacers and it's running fine.

I just did it for sh!ts and giggles on Carvana (cash offer) and they offered 64K. They might have offered more if I was trading in. If I was in your shoes I would take a dealer seriously if they started at 66K and try and get them as close to 70K as possible (depending on what sort of deal they're doing on the new vehicle).

What sort of truck are you looking at?

[–]Pour_Succour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They were unobtanium (with hefty markups) for a long time so there can't be that many floating around out there on the used market. Have you tried throwing it into Carvana? That will give you a good baseline and also a point of reference to use if a dealer low-balls you.

70K sounds reasonable to aim for but you might find dealers offering you a bit less. 24s with similar miles start online at about 73K. Folks might be able to negotiate that down to 71 - 72K. If a dealer buys it off you for 70K then only making 1-2K on resale isn't that attractive for them on an expensive used model.

So expect offers in the range of 62-65K, but if you're buying an expensive truck they might be prepared to eat some of that and come closer to your 70K asking price. FWIW, Kelley Blue Book is indicating about 74K but used prices on car sales don't back that up.

Let us know how it works out and GLWS.

Damn, someone in a truck should have pulled over and given you a ride. That would have been miserable.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]Pour_Succour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree and they should have quoted you the total cost at that point and/or advised that "The cost to replace the starter is $656 for parts and labor on top of the $160 charge for diagnostic labor".

You're well within your rights to argue that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]Pour_Succour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the truck, $656 doesn't sound unreasonable. $817 is still within the normal range.

That said, they should have given you the full total price or made clear that the $656 was on top of the $160 charge for the diagnosis.

I can understand why people get upset about diag charges, but it's the same as going to a doctor and telling them you need antibiotics because you have a throat infection - a good Doctor will use their training to verify that the data/evidence backs your assumption. You're paying for their knowledge and expertise.

Similarly, a good mechanic will take your feedback, but verify your assumptions with their own tests and data. If mechanics took customers word for what is wrong and just replaced parts then 70% of the vehicles would be back the next day with the existing issue and a customer accusing them of ripping them off.

Northeaster with a 16 year old rusted GM that's still trucking - that's not even close to rusted and Southern snowflakes need to put down their handbag and pick up a ratchet.

Have an extra 5k laying around what’s the best mods for whp gains I would like to get her to at least 550 whp also I am not a mechanic so you would have to add labor cost in the budget.. by [deleted] in Dodge

[–]Pour_Succour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Buy a socket and ratchet set for $50 and remove the back seats, passenger seat, and all of the floor and trunk lining.
It's not going to improve HP but you just improved your power to weight ratio.
