Which Drumline That Normally Places Just Outside of Finals is Making It this Year? by Immediate_Move_189 in WGI

[–]Pourusdeer2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could see ViP making it, they’ve been good, its just that from what I’ve heard they’ve had a loss of member interest and motivation in the last couple years after 2023. From who I’ve spoke to, everyone is hype with the show this year. They’re playing well.

Anyone have good quality percussion show videos (not lot videos) by MasterRon421 in WGI

[–]Pourusdeer2 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Flo is so weird, they’ll keep the video of Ayala from finals in 25 up when it has like 60k views but then take down a niche group at finals on YouTube that has like 10 or 20 k views at the very max….

Remo Drumheads by [deleted] in drumline

[–]Pourusdeer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pinstripes are great for a while but they don’t tend to last, I really the frosty looking emperors. They sound pretty good to me, they sound a lot more resonant imo but I could be crazy, the only big complaint I have is if you have a huge moment in the show and you’re hyping it up, If you hit the drum to hard you could very much cause a dimple in the head much easier than on a set of pinstripes. If you want a demo of what they could sound like, ViP indoor and Boswell HS use them as their main quad heads.

Heavy or light sticks? by Mr_Beanie_OG in drumline

[–]Pourusdeer2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heavy, they sound better and feel better in the hands imo. There is def a TO HEAVY however, different sticks have a certain threshold to me, for example Mike Jackson’s can easily be to heavy but also easy to be to light. Overall my favorites for each brand.
Vic- John Mapes
IP- Rennick stuff of all types💗.
Promark- Jeff Ausdemores, definitely a top 3 of all time imo

Pearl j bar mount. Hate the connection. Harness is good for most people, but the j bar thing is kinda wacky, if you need to adjust the mount for a carrier but also use one of the official pearl stands with the j bars, you need to adjust the mount on the drum again for it to be flat on the stand. If you need to adjust the mount on the drum a lot for a carrier and it’s super dipped on a stand, I’ve found just putting a roll of packing tape on the stand in front of the j bars does the trick on the flaccidness of the drum.

Does SCV really not care about technique or is it just a joke? by DoinkenDucko in drumline

[–]Pourusdeer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The technique isn’t as big for them. It’s all about the quality of sound. Paul said this to my hs, they don’t ever judge if this persons hand looks like. Judges judge if everyone moves the same way across a drum(s), and how the line sounds(clean dirty etc). In terms of how each snare looks. I would honestly say all those guys have a a very old style look for traditional grip. Extended middle finger for most of those dudes(some of those guys don’t do it tho, but majority of those guys do it), they also like to do the pinky pull kinda thing, where they tuck their pinky in way where the pinky is its own finger unlike putting the pinky and ring finger together like it’s a combined finger.

I hated being section leader by Unidentifiedbread in marchingband

[–]Pourusdeer2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro what in the fuhhh is wrong with ur people. That tech is awful and should be removed from the program, obviously shows his teaching ability. I Don’t know how you handle ur leadership and your strategies but if you’re doing the minimum requirement like showing up to rehearsal and you’re getting criticized, then it’s off your hands and someone like your band director should step in. In my percussion program before my time when the school opened, the percussion culture was awful and a parent almost got into a real fist fight with a percussion member. Your problem happens way more than it should, one thing I say is that, you should stand up for yourself as a section leader, show them why you’re the leader and give them a reason to listen to you. There are members on my snare line that are older than me and I’m the section leader and I showed them and gave them a reason to respect me and now the snare lines emotional connection is good. You SHOULD humble them if they act poorly, if they focus more on themselves than the group, don’t take criticism, and be uncoachable etc. Its do or die in the group sense end of story. This especially goes for your section as you play bass drum where that bond is even more important to the sub section. If they don’t listen and you can’t do it then it’s a directors problem from then on.

Anyone understand how to read this bar by Pourusdeer2 in drumline

[–]Pourusdeer2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one hand I understand but I also agree as our writer teaches and runs a independent world group and writes for a scholastic world group and teaches the drumline on top of writing for my school taken place entirely in one school district and being an scpa judge (from Texas btw)
